I remember ppl gushing over strives ost. What happened?
>>
>>735052610
Have you heard the music from the old GG games?
>>
People get old.

Struve's soundtrack is an absolute stinker.
>>
The only good Daisuke song that came out in the Strive era wasn't even in Strive, it was in Chunithm.

Nothing happened. There's always been a small number of anons that are very autistically vocal about hating the vocals. Everyone else still loves each new track that comes out for Strive
>>
>>735052847
I agree, the vocals are a true return to form. I'm having a blast listening to the vocals, like REALLY having a blast, my guy.

Mori won again, not a single bad (mainline) game ost

the original cast's themes range from ludo (nago, ky, chipp, pot) to complete ass (leo, zato)
the dlc characters' themes however are almost all bad and/or forgettable. barring baiken, bedman and elphelt I think
>>
>>735052847
I'm okay with the game having vocals in a vacuum, but the music just feels as if it's trying too hard to tell a story that it misses out on the basic premise of just sounding awesome. I don't want to listen to any of that shit when I'm in a fight, and even outside of one a lot of the music has bouts of whiplash that take me out of it.
>>
>>735052610
the newer osts are more solo vocalist focused so the theme cant stand out as much
>>
>>735052495
daisuke stopped being """inspired""" by classic metal and started doing his own shit with his band
>>
>>735053615
johnny's strive theme is the best song the character has ever had by a mile
>>
>>735053659
I can see that, but I think it only impacts certain tracks. The ones where the story being told has an impact on the instrumentation and pace of the song as well, which in turn is what draws attention to it during a fight. I'd say most of the base roster is fine in this regard, with only Ram and I-No really not being great fight tracks because they focus on being character-stories-as-themes. Faust's almost gets there as well, but the average match is over before Alone Infection gets to the bridge.

The DLC tracks suffer a bit more, particularly Baiken and Bedman being great songs but TERRIBLE to fight to. I'd also give mention to Venom and Asuka, where they aren't really bad, but just kinda sound generic, and I know people give them passes because of solely the writing, when even the vocals-as-sound themselves are kinda flat.

That being said, even then most of the DLC tracks are pretty good. Dizzy, Jack-O, ABA, and Johnny are great to fight to. I'd say Elphelt turns things around and makes the focus on vocals actually work for it, not in terms of the written vocals but in the sense of their actual sound. Then of course there's Slayer's, who fits in the same notch as Sol and Ky's, where it's a great extension upon his previous theme.

Nah, even one of my buddies that has never played GG games before dislikes the music in Strive. He says some don't make for good fighting game music, e.g. takes too long to get good or just thematically doesn't match the energy. And other tracks he thinks are just kinda annoying. We unlocked some of the original tracks and some from XX, to which he wondered why the series no longer stuck to the heavy metal/hard rock genre. We kinda shrugged and said that Strive really ain't like GG at all anymore.

Facebook-tier post. I don't give a shit about what your newbie buddy thinks, and if you're too much of a pussy to just out and out say "I think it takes too long to get good or just doesn't match the energy" for yourself and actually want to discuss the matter, then I don't care to interact with your point beyond this.

I think all of the new tracks suck, and I don't even like the music in Xrd all that much either. If I just told you that, you'd dismiss it as nostalgia fueled or some gay shit. You can actually get some value out of a fresh perspective instead of the usual filter or echo chamber most people are surrounded by.

venoms is kino you racist and homophobic man
>>
>>735052610
the trans obsession with guilty gear has irreversably tainted the series
>>
>>735052610
Common issue between a newer fanbase clashing with an old one, new GG doesn't have that 90s metal edge that it used to, now it all sounds like radio rock.
>>
>>735059476
Yeah even Xrd had an issue with its sound. IMO it all starts with the mixing, everything sounds too fucking clean. The vocals being everywhere kind of compounded this issue.
At least in Blazblue the vocal tracks were optional or rare, with the vocals mostly being an element blending into the song (and in Japanese), Xrd kind of glossed over that. It had a few good vocal tracks though like Six Black Heavens Guns but that's not something that plays without you wanting it too.
>>
>>735052610
It's not that Strive's OST is inherently bad on its own. It's that it's dogshit fighting game music because it's all played like an album of character motifs complete with slow sections and breakdowns, which is the last thing you want for a fighting game soundtrack that isn't inherently supposed to be a weird ass fighting game. Classic Guilty Gear music being mostly crazy and consistent, if more "video game-y" stuff, fits the series more.
>>
>>735052495
Too many vocal songs makes people miss older guilty gear osts. Not all Strive osts are garbage desu some newer ones like Unika's theme and Slayer's new theme are pretty good.
>>
>>735052610
those 'ppl' never played guilty gear before.

>>
>>735052495
Ishiwatari clearly does not like modern metal. Except for the masterpiece that is the first part of Faust's Strive theme, everything else sucks.
Even Xrd's sung themes had some pearls.

Strive is a commentary on the music industry
>>
>>735052495
Strive's songs aren't all bad but to answer your question Xrd introduced a bunch of mediocre songs and some mediocre vocal songs that got praised by a large amount of the same people that sucked it's balls to high heaven but didn't play it. And daisuke already likes songs with vocals so since Xrd wasn't that successful he figured why not change shit up and make all the songs have vocals for the fuck of it.
>>
>>735062438
Dude dizzy couldn't even save xrd looking like that.
Also strive has been "saved" technically as of season 3 which brought the most players that actually stuck around. 90% sure those 4 characters doing so well alone are the reason strive is even getting that 2.0 update.

Insane disrespect for Drift, Kiss of Death, Ups and Downs, Symphony, and Tenth of Myself.
>>
>>735052847
I don't know. I loved that one vocal album with many Guilty Gear X songs getting vocals by the same guy who does them in Strive now (I think, not sure). But I'm not sure I would've loved these versions of tracks in game.

At that point it might just be preference, since I use the JPN vocal track version of Blue Water Blue Sky when playing +R, and I can hardly imagine the song without Hiroshi Kitadani's vocals
