I already like the idea of a big game being made actually optimized without unreal fucking engine.

Unreal used to a mark of great quality, and in one generation they turned the engine into a slop factory that chokes out the worst performance of any tech around. Completely optimized shit that desperately needs AI generation and smoothing to hide terrible tech results.

What's funny is that both of these are the results of them becoming worse at their skill.
Artists are using real life scans for texturing and modeling, they've lost the skill of retopology because UE5 offsets that onto the consumers hardware. And "game developers" are going to universities where they only use UE5, where they exclusively use blueprints and where they couldn't make a game in just C++ if their life depended on it.

The only thing that's actually changing is engine developers are occasionally implementing algorithms someone else published.
