What if there was a game where you played as a background character but you have to stay with the main character otherwise you will get unloaded and die.

It could make for an interesting open world game, you are at the mercy of the MC and can't freely explore, and you have to be strategic about which quests you take. But I dont know if it could work in practice.

I had this idea of playing as an ugly bastard who follows the actual hero around and learn in this way about the girls the hero interact with because otherwise who the fuck wants to talk with an ugly bastard...

Oh no, that ones really good, and i highly recommend the novel, but doesn’t really fit the theme of npcs fighting to stay relevant.
It was called surviving a fantasy adventure comic, it’s silly and kind of meanders towards the end, but it’s short enough and the ending was nice :)
