They give you Pikachu, and all 3 starters just like Ash in the anime, knowing that 90% of kids are going to use them on their team. Then when you get to the end of GSC, you from the previous game shows up with a team that's virtually identical to yours. It's a surreal experience because they not only set up the protagonist of the first game to fight the protag of the 2nd game, they set up THE PLAYER to build the team the protag will be using in the second game. It's got both a narrative payoff and a meta mindfuck payoff.So you'd need to spend 2 whole games setting up this moment in order to even hope to top it.
