I still don't get how people can say the Steam Deck was a failure. It sold several million devices. It was never supposed to sell tens of millions or even more than a hundred million devices. That fact that it sold that much, and people are positive about it, is impressive.

>It was not designed as a mass market console
It was mostly targeting existing PC Steam users. It's a portable device for you to play your Steam library on.
>It had no traditional marketing
When have you seen an ad of the Steam Deck on TV or even on YouTube? It was advertised on the fucking Steam Store. I see a Steam Deck ad once every few months on the front page of Steam.
>Not physically in retail stores
It literally has no presence in retail stores unlike other consoles and handhelds. You can mostly only get it by ordering it directly from Valve themselves.
>Mass market devices require large teams
Valve, a corporation with like 400 employees, would need to significantly expand if they wanted to make the Steam Deck a mass market device. Think about the marketing, logistics, support etc. Does that sound like Valve? Valve is the MOST profitable company in the WORLD per employee. It has a mostly flat structure. It makes no sense for them to do that.

Lastly, it spawned an entire new fucking market, the PC handheld market. And guess on which store those people, who buy a PC handheld, will buy their games from? Correct.

Who cares, it's a product for children and manchildren.

So is everything related to gaming

>I still don't get how people can say the Steam Deck was a failure
I'm not sure how people can say that any PC is a failure. The specific desktop PC I built has probably "sold" less than 100 000 units, does that mean my PC is a failure? And why would I give a fuck about that?

Shitted and flopped
>>
>>735059870
17 million units for a console is definitely a shitty flop. So is 155 million units, compared to the PC market. The Switch is inherently a niche device, just like all consoles.
>>
>>735058484
You're engaging with retards. Just remember that most people here only play mobile gacha shit or play on PlayStation. Most of the people that say they play PC are actually third worlders who just use internet cafes. So how the fuck is someone who doesn't have access to a steam account or a PC supposed to say anything good about SD?

Yes, it never was meant to compete against the Switch. It was made to make Sony and Microsoft look even worse. Its sold out. They've made a few different SKUs. If it wasn't for AI we would have had Steam Hardware parity. Like imagine running a beefy game on the Steam Cube and streaming that shit to the Deck.
>>
>>735059947
I have a really good PC. I was wanting to get a steam deck so I could chill on the couch and play. Now it's too late.
>>
>>735060086
I think it's still available in other regions. Otherwise probably hitting eBay for a used unit is the only way. If AI shit can fuck off maybe we can get some new units.
>>
>>735059947
AMD's APUs are impressing me a lot lately. Some of them are very powerful. I am excited to see how much more powerful the next Steam Deck will be. The only con to the Steam Deck is the lack of power. It's sufficient, but I'm still looking for more.
>>
>>735060362
The real problem is that it has to run on a battery, like the Switch. This has gimped a few games like Breath of the Wild. I think they already said Steam Cube is 6x the power of Deck and that's kind of amazing because that's the benefit of constant power draw. But yeah, Deck 2 is going to be crazy because right now it can already play Doom Dark Ages.
>>
>>735058484
It's a failure because my mommy and daddy haven't bought me one yet.
>>
Chang and the other chinks, they want you to buy their overly expensive and prone to explosion chinkshit that barely works properly
>>
>>735060807
it's not them. it's these guys >>735059870
>>
>>735060807
But enough about the steam deck.
>>
>>735058484
It's a failure. I have to stream games from my pc to my steam deck using moonlight to get a decent gaming experience. But I can do the exact same thing better on my phone or even my vita
Genuinely insane how people can defend this piece of shit. Fuck the steam deck
>>
>>735060979
>brooooo the portable ps4 pro sucks bro
you're supposed to be running obscure pc games with gyro and touchpad keys
>>
>>735061108
I can already do that on my phone you steamie cuck.
>>
>>735061140
>phone
gross, you don't even get touchpads for mapping hotkeys
>>
>>735061310
You're talking to a braindead idiot
>>
>>735060641
A Z2 Extreme would be a significant upgrade. Even a Z1 Extreme would be a big upgrade.
>>
>>735061140
I'd love to see you play Master of Magic effectively on a fucking phone.
>>
I got the oled one a few months ago, and I've played it nearly every day since.
>>
>>735061108
I don't care retard. I care about a fluid gaming experience and most games run like shit on steam deck even low fidelity indie platformers. Hollow Knight felt like shit to play at 60 fps
>>
>>735062550
Silksong runs silky smooth at 90fps on my OLED with just 6w tdp, what the fuck are you talking about? The game can easily last for 5 hours at just 80% battery with tdp that low.

>It was never supposed to sell tens of millions or even more than a hundred million devices.
You guys spent years saying it was the Switch killer and then that it would kill the Switch 2. Now that it comes nowhere close the narrative suddenly flipped? Come on.
>>
>>735060641
Breath of the Wild was made for the WiiU.
>>
>>735058484
>Lastly, it spawned an entire new fucking market, the PC handheld market.
That's always existed. GPD for example has been making x86 gaming handhelds for awhile. I guess what Valve did do was prove there was a market in the West for it though, so I do commend them for that. However it seems fleeting since with the AI bubble and just general scalability issues Deck is incredibly outdated and the new Z2E devices are super expensive.
>>
valve has sold every steam deck they have made
>>
>>735062839
>switch 2 sells out with 6 million sold units in it's first month
>deck trannies call it artificial scarcity
>valve discontinues one model of their failure, with a total of 4 million lifetime sales
>deck trannies call this a success
lol
>>
>>735063591
pretty sure 4 million sales would make it the most sold UMPC of all time
>>
>>735063672
Congrats on outselling chinese garage factory trash from temu, still a failure that is getting discontinued due to lack of sales tho
>>
>>735063591
your shitposting and that’s fun. so for fun, I will elucidate the steam deck. amd had 2 million van gogh apus sitting in a warehouse. first they designed the chip for microslop but they canceled the contract. so they went to magicleap and magicleap bought 2 million units so amd fabricated 2 million chips. but then magicleap couldn’t figure out how to actively cool these van gogh apus on a headset, so they canceled the contract and refunded amd at cost the 2 million fab. then valve heard amd had 2 million mobile rdna 2 chips just sitting in a warehouse and said to amd, hey, we might buy them. and amd was like, hey, that’s great, we’ll even sell you 2 million zen 2 cpus at cost, just so we can move these 2 million fucking van gogh apus. and that’s how the steam deck was born. amd had 2 million chips to sell and valve bought them at cost. when valve sold through 2 million steam decks with 4 million chips, they went back to amd and was like, maybe we’ll buy some more. and amd was like, great, we’ll actually fabricate the next few million just for your steam deck, increase the efficiency, lower the nanometer, and take out the magic leap junk in shit we already sold you, and we’ll make it cheaper too. and that’s how the steam deck oled was born.

valve has literally sold every single chip amd made for them. one could argue it is the single most sold through apu in computer history.
>>
>>735063819
it got discontinued because it was the older, worse model and it was already razor thin margins before but with the ram crisis, the cost of 16gb today just puts it in the negative
>>
>>735058484
>Lastly, it spawned an entire new fucking market,
No it didn't.
>>
>>735060807
>>
>>735058484
Yeah it's super success just like steam machine
>>
>>735062816
>>735064081
Nobody gave a fuck about PC handhelds before the Steam Deck.
>>
The greatest achievement of the Steam Deck is improving Linux and making it known to the world that Linux is actually a viable alternative for PC gaming. I hope Linux continues to improve so that 1 day we can kill the cancer that is plaguing PC platform.
>>
>>735058484
>I still don't get how people can say the Steam Deck was a failure.

they got memed into thinking it was supposed to be a switch competitor somehow (despite valve's statements to the contrary all the way back when it was first unveiled)
>>
>>735063591
I bet Valve can't even produce that many Deck's if they wanted to. see >>735063925
>>
is the memory shortage going to make the restocks more expensive
>>
>>735067991
if valve was smart they'd just eat the cost and shove as many decks onto normies as possible
>>
>>735058484
>I still don't get how people can say the Steam Deck was a failure.
It's just butthurt nintendo trannies tho.
>>
>>735058484
>another thread where /v/ runs damage control for the Steam Deck after the aggressive shilling
lol, lmao even
