Bamco's cross-media animu extraction shooter is currently 95% off on Steam. Man, it really crashed and burned so badly, huh? They really pushed it hard with an animu and multiple toylines but now it's displaying signs of EoS.

Fun gameplay and community was mostly up front about fighting you save for the box bastards. Just a hell of a grind and no out of run grouping was very dumb.

Playstation gave this to me for free so I tried to play it.

Because if you're a mecha fan you're always starved for games. I don't know. I played it for a month while waiting for Monster Hunter. Bit too stressful for my tastes, and too much of a chore rather than something actually enjoyable.

This game's setting and designs had lots of potential.
The Mecha design was very cool.
But they ruined it pursuing the dying live service extraction shooter slop.

Theres a japanese interview with the games director where he talks about being inspired by his experience dying in steel battalion line of contact, where that game had legit permadeath if you didnt eject when your mech was destroyed and your pilot died it would wipe youre entire save file and just delete your in game account.
Thats the most interesting thing about this game really.

I went on a couple week kick on it a few months back on PS5, and holy fuck what a lame game. I killed a few players without even realizing they were players sometimes, but the player base is so low and so passive that they barely even fought back and I was never fired on first.

I didn't complete the "campaign" but I did a fair bit of it and the story was okay, and I didn't mind how it was presented via animatics with the occasional CGI scene, but fuck me the gameplay in it was a dreadful slog and finding some of the 360 era data packet things was a real chore.

I thought about platinum it for shits and giggles since it'll probably get turned off after the SAO game comes out but looking at what you've gotta do to do that hell no. I might just watch the rest of the story on youtube that way I can get it all in order and not disjointed the way the game presents it.

The gunplay heavily reminded me of Fatal Bullet and not in a good way. The enemy designs in particular are very Fatal Bullet. In the anime the monsters are mostly these weird wheel shaped handy things that roll around on their arms - clearly they couldn't work that out and just went with basic bitch wolves.

For some reason they didn't leverage the world building they had with in the anime and your hub is a derelict warehouse you spend 300 hours unlocking upgrades for and can never leave.

Baffled by the decision to do this. Why isn't there a hub world with characters to interact with and complete quests for? What was the point of making all those characters for the anime if you aren't going to put them in the game?

Insane shit.
