Crysis Remastered is mostly fixed now. The visuals are fixed/heavily improved, a huge list of bugs are fixed, and there's even a bunch of restored cut content.https://www.moddb.com/mods/improvement-project/news/welcome-to-the-crysis-remastered-improvement-project-10

It's incredible how badly Saber Interactive messed up the First Light sequence. But hey, it's fixed now.
Nobody gives a fuck.
>>735062894I do. Been waiting for this mod for ages. The cut content being added back in is especially interesting. It looks like the ending has been improved, too. The original Crysis ending is sort of limp and abrupt and has a lot of awkward pauses.
>>735062086Crysis is a very good FPS game that is unfortunately unfinished. Most Crysis mods unfortunately focus on bells and whistles instead of trying to actually address the more foundational design challenges. The console port tried to improve the game, and even revised boss battles and stuff. It look like they've tried to split the difference between the original PC version and the remaster. The changelog has a lot of weapon adjustments. The modern nanosuit has been adjusted so it doesn't hog power when you're using armor mode. The classic nanosuit doesn't super aggressively use power when sprinting. Stuff like that.
Coolbeans. Hot take, but the modern nanosuit is super fun and the classic nanosuit is a bit overrated.
>>735062004This game was so aggressively mediocre back when it released, I bought the collector's edition and felt scammed, I don't know what's with this zoomer revanchism pretending it's some hidden gem. The only reason it was ever notable was for being extremely unoptimized and running like shit unless you had a dual GPU meme rig.

>>735064023BASEDCrysis 2 is fucking awesome. Love everything about that game. Even the multiplayer was fun. It's still kind of alive but takes work to get it running on the PS3.
>>735065587>>735065608The original has:>Significantly worse AI.>Ineffective guns with terrible damage falloff. Basically all the gameplay balancing and design is undercooked.>Zero options to update the controls to be more like Crysis 2.>Bad performance.>Visuals that swing wildly between "pretty" and "ugly as fuck".>A boss battle halfway through the game where the boss just stands there and lets you shoot him because the original Crysis is very clearly not finished.>Absolutely atrocious gamepad controls.
>>735064023The blog post says that there's a Crysis 2 Remastered version of this mod in the works as well. There are actually a bunch of weird bugs in C2R like the negative ammo bug, the AI suddenly not responding, and stuff like that. Also there's some errors in the materials in some maps. If that could be fixed, it would be great.
>>735065587>>735065769Also, the original has none of the bugs fixed, and doesn't have any of the restored content. The updated ending cutscene is a huge improvement IMO.Originalhttps://youtu.be/6FSAtqMeUNw?si=h6pSfIfSiXY9mgYC&t=88Modded:https://youtu.be/Zf55TJML5RI?si=OOPkPTccGSxhy8Lc
>>735065996In the original game, Helena talks over herself with two different radio voices. She also plays the radio voice when you're like 2 feet away jumping onto the VTOL. Then, as she pulls you into the VTOL, you can actually see her mouth is still moving. But there's no dialogue. My guess is they ran out of time. But the restored dialogue all seems to fit, so I'm surprised it wasn't added way back in the console port.

>>735068875The AI has been tinkered with. NPCs use cars properly instead of driving into the nearest tree, and some of the problems with NPCs instantly seeing you despite you being cloaked seem to be fixed. The Kyong boss fight is also less broken now. I think the distant AI optimization stuff being removed has fixed a bunch of bugs. The remaster used to enable and disable NPCs at the 200 meter mark. They've added a bunch of Korean conversations. So for example on the second mission if you creep around instead of going guns blazing you'll overhear them saying stuff like "Good job recapturing the hostage, Private!" and arguing about bananas, complaining about the General, etc. It's sorta like Far Cry 1 with the merc conversations.
>>735070510I pirated it, you fucking goy.I specifically only got 2 and 3 remasters, because the AI was fucking broken in Crysis Remastered
>>735062086This. The original was a glorified benchmark tool where the actual game was a clear afterthought.
>>735062004it is not, OP is probably that autistic shill for the demaster
Crysis is garbage and just goes to show how Westerners don't know how to make games, and whenever, by sheer luck, they do make a good arcade-like game like Doom, the evolution of the new genre always revolves around trying to make something more realistic and cinematic, because Westerners can only think of video games as a "make-believe" version of real things, rather than abstract games with their own rules. The result is crap like Crysis, where you're supposedly in a setting with "realistic" human enemies, but that behave comically, chasing you around a table like in a comedy movie because they're incapable of giving even minimally complex responses to the most trivial situations.
>>735070169The mod explictly isn't lazily copying the PC original. It sorta sits between PC and the console port the remaster was built on.The problem is that the console port had some rushed parts and then the remaster team messed up even more stuff. But they also made heaps of improvements over the PC original. Purists claim the PC original is best, but there was always room for improvement.

>>735071247Battletoads you filthy casual.
One of the devs said that they might port the bug fixes and cut content back to the original Crysis. Which is cool, but it does feel like there's a bit of tension where some figures in the Crysis mod community hate the remaster and consider it a cash grab and not worth thinking about. Modding the remaster instead of the OG seems to be a sore spot for some. I think it's because Crytek refused to release mod tools after C2 in 2011. Idiotic choice frankly. Crytek squandered so much goodwill. They should have accompanied the remasters with an official toolkit.

Crysis is only worth replaying for mods imohttps://mega.nz/folder/AVhVWZBb#evI7-U12URq8azCX9irk7wI doubt a mod for the remaster could ever usurp the original
>>735062894nigger i'm downloading it right now
the true far cry trilogy
>>735072003I'm pretty sure the fences are fixed. I know what isn't fixed, though. It's even mentioned in the changelog. The console port the remaster was based on broke or removed impulse wind effects. (I think Crysis 2 had the same issue.) So explosions don't apply area impulse effects to vegetation. It's not an effect most people will actually notice because the fancy explosion screen shake and particles and stuff hide it, but it's a shame.
Did you know that Crysis literally had bullet time stuff in the code? They originally planned to be more like FEAR and the bullet time stuff handles audio speed ramping and stuff. But it was never used because they felt that Crysis should be a fast game. Not a game where you were slowing down time.
>>735072865> It's not an effect most people will actually noticethose aren't people they are npcs
>>735072972it has a fully animated third person character too for some reason
Yay for mods, but the remaster really was kind of an embarrassment, wasn't it? Just look at this. The HALO jump at the start of Crysis is where the game really wows you with its sense of scale and visual composition after the intimate, cramped plane interior. And there are so many problems. The lighting is all wrong. It's way too bright, and it reveals the tiling of the terrain and ocean. The ceph ship is literally missing from the background. The distant lights are missing. It looks like the clouds are missing. A team that understood Crysis would have immediately noticed these things and fixed them. Saber I'm sure are very talented and passionate, but they were so tone deaf art-wise, and clearly didn't know how to make CryEngine look good.
>>735072412>far cry 1not having the nano suit was more fun honestly
>>735073023Technical overhang from Far Cry 1, which was the same.

>>735072865>Speding years trying to make something look vaguely like something older, that you can still have, and yet is subpar with itHoly copium
One of the problems with Crysis resulted from the stitched together story. Basically, the game never actually has a chance to build up the mystery of what is happening on the island because you literally come face to face with a giant tentacle robot in broad daylight about 40 minutes into the game. You literally saw a giant blue robot thing crash through a ship, about 10 meters in front of you, visibly hang there in the air, and then drag away poor Jester to his death. Then the following mission tries to act like Nomad and Psycho are uncertain about what is happening and they rescue the hostage and she says, "Something out there is killing people," and it's meant to be like this spooky foreshadowing. Yea, something ain't right on this island.Okay, okay. But YOU LITERALLY STOOD LIKE 5-10 METERS AWAY FROM A GIGANTIC CLEARLY ALIEN ENTITY JUST 30 MINUTES AGO.This was not the original plan. There were way more missions, and characters like Aztec and Jester accompanied you throughout the game. There is code for Jester to be present in the tank mission. They chopped it all down.
>>735073415The Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 1/2 games sorta feel like Crysis, and coincidentally run on CryEngine.>>735073458Overall it does seem to look and run a lot better than the old version. It just has some technical tradeoffs where I dunno if mods can fix them. There are some things in the mod that I am actually surprised got fixed. I genuinely didn't think that the blood spray could be fixed. Blood was always sorta broken even in the original Crysis. It just wasn't a priority for Crytek, living in a censorship-happy country. But the mod has proper blood spray painted onto the surface behind the guy who just got shot whenever you shoot people.
>>735071946yeah dlss is great
>>735073458Remaster Helena is way hotter than 2007 Helena. I don't know what they changed, but she looks really derpy in the original.
>>735073458It's very common for this kind of thing to happen when you update a game to a new version of the engine. Crysis for consoles and Crysis remastered seem to be built on some kind of frankenstein version of cryengine that is partially CE2, partially CE3, with some CryEngine V rendering features bolted on top including a very oddball DX11+Vulkan system for the ray traced reflections and not just reflections, it has a prototype of the faux-PBR system from Crysis 2 Remastered that uses a list of material values to force specular per material. This is the "experimental ray tracing" checkbox in the options. And the thing is, having the main renderer be DX11 and then bolting on Vulkan to handle some parts of the pipeline is what happens when you're Crytek and very dysfunctional and years behind schedule on the native DX12 or Vulkan renderers back when these remasters were made.
>>735062868Still looks best in the 07 version lmao
>>735074221And it's not even a picture of actually maxed out crysis
>>735062004I thought og crysis was the best looking game ever even today and doesn't need mods
>>735074221>Still looks best in the 07 version lmaoNo, the lighting in 07 is wrong. The sunlight should be bouncing off the cliff behind you, and the early morning fog in the cove should be catching the light. Notice how you can see the ship in the distance? You shouldn't be able to see it. It should be obscured by fog that lifts as the sun rises. Crysis '07 has no bounce lighting system and it really shows in scenes like this.
>>735074642Crysis 1 frequently looks rather ugly. A lot of the tech was immature, and they had ideas that had to be scrapped last minute. Overall a good looking game, but it can look very rough at times. Fans of the original Crysis have always been defensive to a fault.
>>735074221I can't see anything that looks better in the original version. Worse textures, worse vegetation (look at how bare the hillsides are), worse fog. It looks great for 2007, but very dated today.

>>735075281But why would you play the original when the remaster is fixed (mostly) and is just plain better than the original because it's based on the far more enjoyable console port made by an actual game developer (Crytek UK) instead of the Crytek Frankfurt people?I'm just not seeing the argument for the original game here. It looks worse, runs worse, the AI is brain dead, all the guns suck, the bosses are awful, it has numerous bugs that never got fixed, and before I would say, "Oh, well the remaster has XYZ downsides." But most of the problems I'm aware of the remaster having seem to be fixed now. So it's like... win-win?

>>735062004the nortubel of crysis
I've never played it and have been meaning to. Is the original or remaster better overall?
>>735075496The only reason Crysis has any multithreading at all is that Intel literally paid them to do it in exchange for Intel Inside branding. I've seen the contract in Crytek's leaked files. Basically, you must understand that game engine devs in the 2000s were NOT a fan of multithreaded code. It was a huge engineering headache. Valve were not fans of multithreading. That's why Valve hated the PS3 so much. They later made Source multithreaded but it was with reluctance.Crytek didn't have some grand scheme. They were in way over their heads. Crysis was originally this hugely ambitious open world immense sim with non-linear narrative progress and a dynamic world that operated without you. That fell through. So they chopped everything down and shipped the game we got. They had bitten off a lot more than they could chew on the tech side. The idea that "Crytek though the future was single threaded" is a half truth. Most game devs were not onboard with parallelism, and they just weren't capable of shipping anything better.Bear in mind they were UNDER CONTRACT to deliver a PS3/360 port by 2008. They were already receiving milestone payments for it by 2007. And they had FUCKING NOTHING. Because nobody at Crytek Frankfurt knew how to re-engineer Crysis to do that. That's why they brought in Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical) to do it. Some of the devs who worked on Crysis 1 for consoles ended up at Naughty Dog where they created the entire Naughty Dog "wide linear" style with long grass, tactical options, vehicles, that sorta thing. The jeep in Uncharted 4 is a direct Crysis homage.
>>735075587maybe it's that island specifically, you don't see mountains that blurred out on the main island
oh baby me ruv yu rong time
>>735062004very cool, but why not just fix up the original?
>>735075802Crysis was always a very jank, unstable game. Modern hardware and OSes have just made that more obvious. I always thought that the physics in Crysis 1 were kind of stupid. It is so easy to just die because the physics bugged out and slammed you into a wall. You die when pieces of debris fall on you. You die when you get too close to a tank barrel and it flips the tank over and lands on your head and explodes. It's just this hugely fragile game where they managed to squeeze a decent wide linear singleplayer campaign into that framework.
>>735075991The original is dx9/dx10 which is not only abandoned its also worse than dx11
>>735075926It's controlled by the time of day. There's a whole system that controls lighting, depth of field, fog, etc.
>>735075870It's tough. I'd say that with the mod the remaster is very good. It's especially good if you want to play with Crysis 2-style controls because the remaster supports that. The original is a very jank game. The remaster with the mod has a lot of fixes for scripting issues in the original Crysis that were never fixed and stuff like that.If we were talking unmodded remaster vs OG Crysis with the launcher fix, then OG Crysis. But modded? It's a different ball game. Most of the issues I have with the remaster are fixed now.
>>735076079There's a difference between janky and unstable versus common CTDs.
>>735075991>>735076204That's part of it, but also, it's so jank. The console port team for PS3/360 made a huge, huge, huge number of changes. Literally thousands of changes. You read a changelog in the beta build about fixing the nanosuit soldiers, and go back and play the original and realize the nanosuit soldiers are completely retarded in the PC version. Their AI was never finished. Kyong's boss AI doesn't work at all. The console port team mostly fixed this. They reworked so many aspects of the game, and then tinkered with the combat balancing, the core feel of the game. I do prefer the OG on a few points. I like that you can sprint sideways in the OG. You can't in the remaster, it's more like Crysis 2. But overall, they made all these changes that make the game feel better to play and less like a tech demo. It's less erratic. It does have a consolized smell to it, but I don't mind that.

>>735062086FPBP>>735063248>Crysis is a very good FPS game>my first FPS was Halo
>>735062004Now just remove all the alien levels and you've got yourself a good game.
>>735077360Looks fine to me. Although I do wish the golden dawn lasted longer. I remember the console port had a sunrise that lingered until you were across the cove. Here it transitions from the golden rising sun rays to a bright blue sky pretty quickly. Still, the water looks way better. I remember the remaster having this ugly black murky water.
Anyone have the Crysis video of some dude playing the game exceptionally well utilizing all the mechanics?
>>735062086>>735070582Fuck off no-PC zoomies.Crysis was one of the last great FPS games, and a stellar PREDATOR sim.
I hate that the DE-master merged suit modes into one and now you cannot for example use speed-only or power-only.
>>735080191What are you talking about? The remaster has classic and modern suit modes.
>>735063625>The only reason it was ever notable was for being extremely unoptimized and running like shitCrysis was optimized enough that it ran no better on later hardware with different low level behavior in spite of the increased power, you ignorant child.
>bunch of people talking positively about the remaster>it was based on the console version instead of the pc versionAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA
>>735083186it's 1 shill
>>735062086Skill issue
>>735062004Downloading, there's no other FPS worth a shit to give my new GPU a good workout lmao
>>735078072multithreading was added to dx11 in 2018 but cryengine 3 is from like 2009.
>>735062894You're brown.
>>735075913Neat post
>intel promises 10ghz cpus soon™>crytek believes them and doesn't worry about learning how to into multi-threading their engine>"woops we lied, 3ghz is the best I can do for the next 10 years lmao">crysis doesn't scale for shit as a result
>>735075496>No clue how Crytek intends to make money, they can't just live off Hunt forever. They've been acting as Star Citizen's engineers, lol.
>>735085310the last thing I remember is that they moved over to lumberyard, maybe because Amazon offered lower licensing cost. But the last thing I heard about lumberyard is that they turned it into an open source engine and probably don't use it themself anymore.
>>735087247They're using some kind of Frankenstein CryEngine build that does its own thing now.
>>735085057Everyone wanted to believe them, lol. Multi-threading was considered to be insanely difficult.
>>735087420I mean it still kind of is.Game logic is largely single threaded, but individual parts of the engine are multi threaded.
>>735062004For any younger people wanting to know about this game because I'm certain most folks here were shitting in their diapers when it was new.Crysis is a game that came out in 2007, and it blew the competition away in terms of graphics. It looked so damn good, but it was very resource intensive, so people frequently asked "But can it run Crysis?" when new hardware was released, and that became a meme which is still spouted every now and then.Unfortunately, the game is just not great. It's a good shooter to be sure, but really the only thing going for it was the graphics. If graphics is your thing, then Crysis is definitely one to check out. If you want anything else out of your game, you can skip it.
>>735087998>played it on an x1600 with resolution set to 1024x768 because 1280x1024 was too taxing>had to have everything on low too with massive pop inThose were the days.
>>735087998>It's a good shooter to be sure, but really the only thing going for it was the graphics. it was a good shooter, faggot
Do i need the ubislop shit to play it?
>>735088861Until the aliens showed up, just like the first crysis.
>>735088984>crysisI'm retarded, meant far cry.
>>735062894Zoom zoom
>>735066993Good, console shooters are way better than PC fps games.
>>735062004Zoomies don't give a fuck or are so retarded they won't play the superior OG
>>735089165
>>735089561Cry, sis.
>>735075281I'm glad dickface is still getting work.
>>735087998>only the graphics. I think the physics were much cooler, but it wasn't the first physics gimmick game and the destructiable environment falls off once the island is frozen and with every subsequent title. The nanosuit was also a nice gimmick
>>735079740
1 is better than the rest
Most people didn't play Crysis right, there was a lot of fun tricks you could do with all the nanosuit modes that the game just never explained directly.
>>735093204Liiike what?
>>735093941I think you could chuck cars at people, I know you could grab NORKs and throw them around at each other. Curious about the rest.
>>735062004Good old memories playing Crysis Wars, more specifically the "Mesa" map.
