A lot of dog food DOES NOT have this chemical in it. it takes a couple months to happen but a couple months is also kind of a short amount of time, make sure your mom knows that her cats will go blind if she keeps feeding it dog food for too long.

>>735063981It's not that they're fragile. It's that dog food manufacturers are cutting costs as much as possible. In a natural environment they would eat meat and they would naturally get taurine from meat. Dog food makers pretty much just put the cheapest crap they can that fits the minimum requirements for a dog, so there's no reason to bother putting taurine in because dogs don't need taurine. Cat food obviously DOES have taurine added because they know cats need it. It's just a weird quirk of evolution with cats. Pretty much all other mammals produce taurine in their bodies except for cats. At some point in their ancient past, feline bodies stopped producing taurine and they just started getting it from their food. Again, this is absolutely no problem in nature. This is exclusively a "problem" because you're trying to feed a carnivore predator with corn flakes.
