RE9 has film grain that’s forced on and can’t be turned off. It’s driving me crazy, forcing me to install a mod just to get rid of it.

Sometimes I get what they're going for, but it usually emulating flaws comes across as stupid fluff that's there for no good reason.
Fucking lens flare, there's no lens, there's not even a real camera.

Visuals should be made with 4:3 monitors in mind, it's the superior artistic constraint. 16:9 is excessive and needles, artists spend too much time feeling up the space with useless crap, instead of being concise and mindful.

A lot of games aren’t even retro-style; the film grain just makes them look terrible.
I still remember how *Just Cause 2* forced the film grain effect to be enabled.
It wasn’t a retro game at all, and the film grain itself didn’t add anything to the game.
It just made everything look terrible.
You could only turn off the film grain by using a mod.

I just realized that the noise in ray tracing looks a lot like film grain.
To eliminate this noise, NVIDIA specifically upgraded DLSS solely for the purpose of noise reduction.

Very much this. If "realistic" graphics looked 100% realistic that would be great but it does not, and film grain helps keeping the uncanny valley away smoothing it out a bit. Helps in reducing how much like plastic, overly smooth etc. things look. In the REngine it certainly helps, in my opinion.

I do, however, agree that the option to turn it off should be there. Especially if it's poorly made film grain.

Paying someone to add a film grain effect to your footage to pretend you shot a film.
