Because the Microsoft buyout forced them to rush their development schedule, and Dinosaur Planet had already been languishing in development limbo as an N64 title that now needed to be ported over to the newer Gamecube console. As for why it became a Star Fox entry, Nintendo Director and Developer Miyamoto had inspected the progress on Dinosaur Planet and pointed out to Rareware the similarity between Sabre (one of the original protagonists when the game was still Dinosaur Planet) and Fox McCloud. He suggested converting the game into the Star Fox ip and, despite fan claims, Rareware welcomed this opportunity to refactor the game. The secondary protagonist of Dinosaur Planet was also called Krystal, she recieved a redesigned look as Miyamoto believed she needed to be given a sexier, mature look to match the rest of the Star Fox cast. Due to the development time constraints her role as a deuteragonist took a backseat with most of her playable sections and mechanics rolled into a straightforward adventure playing as Fox McCloud. Outside of the intro level Krystal will spend most of the game trapped in a crystal.
