Played X4 a few day, established an asteroid mining company covering 20 ships, build 2 stations, did some DLC quests, got bored.Seems like the rest of the game is just more numbers going up and doing fetch quests while waiting for passive income.Any reason to pick this up again?
Start becoming a warlord for one of the factions.
>>735071837How? Never heard of that.
you're just not autistic enough
>>735071767What do you want out of a space game? X4 can cover it probably except for multiplayer content. If you just want to fly around dogfighting in space you could do that without building anything or getting involved in the game economy. It seems you might want the game to provide more context for you instead of you bringing your own motivations. Keep in mind this is a sandbox game like most space sims are so you may not really find that here like you would in a linear game, but even then there are some options for you, like the faction storylines in the DLCs.Eventually those aggressive robot ships will start to grow and spread out, as well, and you'll have to do something to stem their tide if only to protect your own stations, so you may want to start applying that passive station income towards building a fleet.
>>735071767Go into ship component production. Start with the core basics like hule, electronics. The goal is to have your own mega shipyard with total vertical integration. An absolutely massive shipyard at that. Get the prints for every ship except terran I guess, do core species. Then just have everyone buy your stuff for the war machine. Then buy your own stuff and become a warlord
I kinda stopped at the same place you did after finishing the Kingdom End storyline. I'll probably pick it up again and continue to grow my empire at some point. I like to roleplay though and I don't know how to have a Boron making a war-fleet make in-world sense.
>>735076470Start over as some other faction thenTerran have the simplest production lines
>>735076815But I like the Boron :(
I think X4 makes it too easy to get to the factory/empire building stage. You should have spend time bounty hunting or hauling/trading instead of being able to set up a mining station and having auto miners within the first 10 hours.
I've never spent the autism hours required to figure this game out. Is it possible to build a mercenary company? Is it possible to sabotage other factions and start wars between other factions to make profit from your mercenary company? I want to be the ultimate space jew.
>>735071767Just play starfield instead, a way better RPG.
Very fun game, but it’s heavily lacking in proper warfare mechanics. Once you can print your own ships there’s basically nothing left to do. Waging war should have been more difficult and interesting. As it is now, even if you start a war (nobody will ever declare on you), your opponent will generally just sit on their ass and do nothing. At most they’ll send a handful of ships once in a blue moon if your station is close enough. But they are completely incapable of being any sort of a threat, which means war - and therefore even just being able to produce your own ship - leads to fucking boredom. I’ve tried many mods, and you can artificially boost the Xenon so that they can actually compete, but even then, they take a billion years to actually do anything.
>>735071767It is probably not a game you would enjoy. Like factorio is a game you either get addicted to or it is not for you.And when i wrote that i realized how disgusting from slop is for making and cultivating the "git gud" fanbase.
>>735071767I think people should give X4 a shot like you did and do at least one "accomplish as much as you can and get as big as you can" runbut if you aren't those sorts of people who enjoy doing multiple runs with varying degrees of self-imposed/self-selected constraints (anti-xeno Terran run, fighter-only run, mining-empire run) then it is what it is. No harm, no foul.
>>735079358>Fromsoft out of nowhereElden Ring Derangement Syndrome
>>735080406Never played that trash. I tried sekiro and hated it.
>>735071767Isnt this getting some big overhaul patch soon?
>>735080630It is getting overhaul patches every year. Difference between this and no mans sky is that the base 1.00 game had a proper foundation (har har), so there is something there to improve upon.
>>735077305Combat missions still have a lot of room for improvement compared to X3. I don't want to blow up mines/laser towers around a station for the trillionth time. The Emergent Missions mod makes things a bit better.
which X game should I play if I don't have a chunky GPU?i'm on a 2018 laptop with a ryzen 2
>>735083474They're all CPU bound, not GPU.
>>735083474X3 Albion Prelude will give you the most content bang for your buck.
>>735071767Total Xenon death
>>735071767The game is about founding space Amazon until you have enough capital to start wars just for fun. If becoming Grand Warlord Jeff Bezos doesn't sound interesting just play something else
>>735076470Just roleplay as a Boron who wants Total Split Death
>>735084828Would a Boron really WANT that? They are pacifists and love peace even with their enemies
>>735084918Total.Split.Death.
>>735085131I think you underestimate me
>>735077549They added diplomacy mechanics recently, but they're undercooked right now.
>>735084918a split admiral (not bandit or privateer) raided and blew up the station habitat where your entire genetic line lived. now your boron can exterminate the split.
I love Boron ship design
>>735077549You can be a mercenary, but it doesn't really work long term because the faction you are working with will start to like you more and more while the faction that you are attacking will like you less and less, so hopping from employer to employer like a true mercenary is kind of difficult if they are fighting each other. However one trick you can do pretty late in the game is to make a shipyard on the border between two rival factions, their newly bought ships will fighting each other immediately after exiting your station, you can then gather the debris and recycle them for more ships to become the ultimate arms dealer. There are also some (one time and tied to the story quests) missions that pop up where you can choose to make two sides start an open war. There are also supposed to be diplomacy mechanics now, but I haven't engaged with them yet so I can't tell you how they are.
>>735079498>challenge runs Honestly they should lean on that more IMHO, I think some light RPG mechanics where you can choose what ships/industry/whatever to specialize in would be fun, since instead you are kind of encouraged to make every playthrough the same unless you purposefully nerf yourself.
I had an idea to crank up Xenon strength and use diplomacy to pit factions against each other, the two together straining them enough that I could just roll in and genocide the non-humans before ultimately purging the Xenon myself. Is that something likely to stay interesting the whole way through? I think I would take it sequentially, doing one faction's plots and engaging cold war shit against them while the prior faction is in the process of being exterminated (I know that this requires they have no allies left to build ships for them).
>>735093254Xenon can usually hold their own in the early to midgame, moreso if you make everyone fight each other so that they can't marshal all their resources against the Xenon. I think a lot of players fall into the trap of building a gate camping station in front of the Tharka's Cascade gate, which really disrupts their ability to harass the meatbag races and makes them waste resources futilely trying to destroy the defense station. The Xenon are ultimately necessary to stimulate the economy by creating a constant need for ships and resources.
>>735093567The relevance of the Xenon in this scenario is to ramp up their strength in mid-late game so that they can actually shit on a faction instead of just driving the economy.
What do you all think about the announced Empire Update?Do you agree with the list of changes they are going to do?
>>735071767>What am I missing?Autism.
>>735093780I've been meaning to jump into a game to test it, but apparently capital ship AI has gotten a huge improvement, where they will aggressively move in to use their main batteries, instead of pussyfooting around at maximum range trying to line up shots. Plus travel drive can now keep charging even if you take a couple of hits in a capital ship, so they can withdraw more effectively.
>>735093757Most mods that buffs the Xenon do it enough that you don't need a galctic war to make the other races hopelessly get curbstomped by the Xenon (besides the Terran, but even then even a galactic war isn't going to do much since the Argon are going to collapse pretty fast)
>>735093780Very cute question mister marketer. At least you don't make 5 threads like gook desert. Hard to disagree with changes in 9.00 when it is just improvements.
9.0 looking good
>>735093939>capital ship AI has gotten a huge improvement, where they will aggressively move in to use their main batteries, instead of pussyfooting around at maximum range trying to line up shots. Wouldn't they get destroyed by the station turrets though? In fact, I'm pretty sure this was their original behaviour, before they changed it to take potshot at max range, exactly because destroyers got absolutely shredded by a station turrets.
>>735093973The purpose of the galactic war and Xenon together is so that the process of me exterminating a faction isn't a long protracted slog in which I will lose interest. And the whole endeavor is humanity-first; I will be assisting the Argon.
>>735093780I haven't gotten a chance to check out the new combat AI but I appreciate the new approach to ship modules.
>>735094152There is a reddit thread about destroyers and stations in 9.0. go look it up.
>>735093973There are like four or five ways to buff the Xenon, all compatible with each other and pretty easily retuned with a text editor. You can do what you like with them.
>>735094152Maybe, but their effectiveness against Xenon capitals has improved greatly, even after gravitons got a range buff to ~7.5 km
Man I don't want to redo my mods for a new version. But the new version will have some stuff I would like.
>>735094415I wouldn't bother for the early betas unless you really like dealing with bugs and see-saw nerfs/buffs.
The economy gameplay is both complex but also simplified. Complex in that everything is based on genuine supply and demand. Nothing gets produced without actual inputsIts simplified on the financial side though>no debt>no bonds>no taxes>no salary>no amortisation (upkeep)>no interest Thus it is impossible for the player to ever go bankrupt. Once profit rolls in its infinite outside freak events like all sectors being overrun with xenon You can mod in general upkeep and salaries for personnel though
>>735096843I shouldn't have to be a CPA to enjoy X4.
>>735097510On the other hand, it would be nice if nations had budgets instead of infinite wealth and if there were any economy outside of manufacturing ships and stations.
>>735098010Yeah, a consumer goods economy would be nice in games where things have gotten too peaceful to stimulate shipbuilding.
>>735097510Economy games have done it before and nobody is complaining. X3 alone tried to simulate the stock exchange. They could always just put it in "hardcore" mode to leave regular mode as is for fast industry buildingAs it stands, it just gets boring after a while. since there is no thought as endless expansion is a no brainer. If you aint into fleet building and attacking sectors there really is not much else to do in very late end game
>>735096843The game is already incredibly boring as it, they don't need to make it worse.
>>735101689It aint x4 fault (you) have shit taste
>>735101840Nah, you are just a retard.
