Discord serves as a somewhat safe buffer program for people who want to communicate with strangers without the risks associated. This is why most controversies revolving around Discord stem from breaking the barrier between Internet relationships and real-world ones. In a perfect world, anybody you bond with in a game or forum would exchange contact information that goes beyond some stupid handle on some stupid app, but that's a pipe dream.
