There was a time from the mid 2000s to the early 2010s when every damn studios, no matter their budget, wanted to be the next big first person shooter. With only some very moderate success.what's your favorite ones?
>>735082135I bought this for my dad and he never played it.
>>735082274If my memory of it is correct, it was basically a HL2 cloneIt being published by Sierra made this pretty ironic.
>>735082135The one you postedI remember liking BulletstormHard Reset
>>735082135i remember replaying the demo of this on my friend's PS3 that i borrowed over and over because i loved the dark dystopian city setting so much. Played the full game on emulator a year ago and finished it. Was kino.
Wasn't it the time when everyone wanted to be the next Halo/COD/HL without really understanding what made these games iconic in the first place?I remember one that was like a weird mix of HL and Bioshock, I forgot it's name though. Was decent but nothing special
It was kino
>>735083024Wasn't that game was a shameless rip-off
Timeshift was originally significantly different in development. In fact they released the demo, but people hated it, so they reworked it so it feels different.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhufArkAAlQ
>>735084656honestly, it was a good choice. the game that released was a bit mediocre but it looked much better than this
I wanted to play TimeShift so bad, but I tested the demo I think, It wssnt anything special so it kind of dropped off my radar
>>735082135This game came out the same year as tge first Crysis... Even if I liked it better (Time Powers and s more sleek armour), it never had a chance.
Kino, just kino...
>>7350852182007 was a crazy year for games, but even when playing "bad" games from that era, they're actually decent to play now.
>>735085218Not just Crysis, Halo 3, COD4, Bioshock, HL2E2 (and HL2 was it's main inspiration), I'm probably missing a few other, 2007 was a busy year
>>735085330It was more stabilized at the time, AAA and AA were rarely bad, at worst they were a bit mediocre but still fine.the real bad game was focused on the shovel wares. But barely anyone even remembers these unless they were unlucky enough to grew up with one. (these mostly were aimed at people who do not know video games much)
>>735085324I see it has the class Mann Dudeson protagonist.
>>735086961these were the most common ones until around 2012
bump
>>735086961>>735087543There was a time when all men in vidya had shaved heads.
>>735082135They were all good. Quake Wars was fucking awesome, and I liked Frontlines, Fuel of War. It was the golden age of gaming, these FPS games are a lost art.
>>735091972Unfortunately I was 10 at the time, so I missed almost all of them, except those few games and the ones that had multiplayer demos. Now I can buy any game I want, but nothing new seems worth trying and only the few of those games (only the popular ones) are somewhat alive
>>735091972why the hell isn't quake wars still playable now anyway? why isn't it on Steam?
>>735091972Does anyone besides me remember Warrock?I think it's still going as a sad imitation of its former self.
>>735082339Yea but the rewind mechanic was cool.
>>735082339>it was basically a HL2 clonIt was more of a Halo clone
>>735092416Because it was under the licensing hell. Game owned by Activision, while Quake IP was owned by id and later Zenimax. Similar to Wolfenstein 2009.Now they're both owned by Microsoft. But you can still play it online with ETQW Client Manager
>>735092520Did Halo have puzzles?
If we compare to how it is today, the difference is that everyone now want to be the next hero shooter, soon it's going to be extraction shooter instead>>735092520it took a little from Halo as did everyone at the time but it was much closer to HL desu
>>735092520halo is a hl2 clone
>>735093031Anon it wasn't out when Halo 1 released...
>>735082135singularity, the darkness and it's sequel, and bulletstorm were pretty great.
>>735082135Not FPS but it was a game with a cool gimmick. The game sucked though.https://youtu.be/z7uGhmfaHT8
>>735092416It is playable
