Phil Spector had pretty much infinite money, free rein, and plenty of studios to improve things for Xbox.
He didn't do shit. He tries to blame things on his predecessor.
>"We lost the worst generation to lose in the Xbox One generation, where everybody built their digital library of games. When you go and you're building on Xbox we want our Xbox community to feel awesome, but this idea that if we just focused more on great games on our console that somehow we're going to win the console race doesn't really lay into the reality of most people.
>"Like 90 percent of the people every year who walk into a retailer to buy a console are already a member of one of the three ecosystems and their digital library is there. This is the first generation where the big games that they're playing were games that were available last gen, when you think about Fortnite, Roblox, and Minecraft.
>"The continuity from generation to generation is so strong. I see a lot of pundits out there that want to go back to the time where we all had cartridges and discs, and every new generation was a clean slate. And you could switch the whole console share, that's just not the world that we are in today. There is no world where Starfield is an 11 out of 10 and people start selling their PS5s, that’s not going to happen.
This has to ignore the fact that Nintendo also flopped that generation, and won hard with the Switch, a console with, I remind you, ZERO backwards compatibility.
Phil Spector is just a mongoloid.

Not really, I feel the kinect was really ripping off the wires popularity and kind of went overboard with it. But this was before we had phones and shit listening to us, so being monitored 24/7 really sleeved some people out. The whole navy thing makes sense, I dont think they can use anything that runs off a normal wifi signal, and many of those games could be played off line. I'm not an expert, but thats my understanding.

>the wii
I mean

Considering how things have turned out he was unironically ahead of the times

The Kinect was good tech

As someone who bought an original Xbox and 360, yes, that's what i want. It's also why i stopped buying shit from MS after the 360.

Xbox was the leader during his generation and the Apple of videogames.
You are all idiots.

Now they use it for ghost hunting, because it picks up shit that can't been seen, lol. Apparently, but I did have a kinect and it kept registering someone beside me one time. But I dont think it was a ghost, just the kinect mapping my surroundings in a weird way.

No they really are that tonedeaf.

I’m honestly convinced that Sony would have won that generation even without the 2013 E3 fumble.

What exclusives did the Xbone have captured the normiesphere? Halo and Gears of War kek? It’s not 2007 anymore, the public wanted movie games and Sony delivered on that front.

just extremely incompetent

PLAYSTATION, MAKE THE BEST GAMES

There was basically no way forward.
The vast majority of the investors by that point had placed their hopes in picking a winning formula out of the various games released around the time of the 2008 financial crisis and were subsequently very disappointed when none of them managed to scale exponentially with increased budgets and marketing, so they withdrew all of their budget and left that shit to die around 2011-2014. Xbox needed to convince investors that they still had that mythical exponential growth normalfag audience or no investors were going to sink any money into making games for them.
Microsoft knew that retarded normalfags bought consoles, so it threw all of its marketing specifically at retarded normalfags, except that the normalfags got all of that targeted marketing filtered through raging autists and they told them that Xbox was shit.
>>735091828
>and won hard with the Switch, a console with, I remind you, ZERO backwards compatibility.
Switch got lucky due to emulation and handhelds like the Steam Deck, so its marketing that failed with the Wii U was carried by PC piracy. The same retardation that caused people to think that the Wii U was just an accessory for the Wii, caused them to think that the Steam Deck was the Switch. This would not have worked for a traditional console without a weird form factor that could be confused for something else.
>>735092220
No, that's just indicative of everyone else also being retarded.
>>735092265
And just like all gimmicky console tech, it was significantly better when taken out of the hands of official console devs.
>>
>>735089763
Some of you guys don't work in corporate and it shows. 9 times out of 10 there is no machiavellianism. People are just fucking retarded and incompetent. When they accidentally do something good they think it's because they're this master businessman.
>>
>>735093578
You can be retarded and evil, which is why no one really like FAGMAN companies.

Epstein Hoax. Trump never went to the island.

>>
>>735094514
They couldn't name it xbox 2 because it would look inferior to ps3. That's the real reason.
>>
>>735094912
then we got the xbone lmao

Xbox put a bunch of wrong people in charge and it never really had any kind of solid backing. It was at the time, a product that probably should've been a one-off from Microsoft that really didn't come into the market for video games and more of a solution in hopes of attracting developers to a Windows platform. People often forget Xbox comes from DirectX, it was the DirectX-Box.
The original people who proposed and designed the Xbox had left Microsoft pretty much before they even designed the 360.
The 360 did well entirely out of luck. Multiplatform titles ran better on the 360, it had better social features than the PS3 did and it was guaranteed to have Halo 3. If Sony didn't essentially shoot themselves in the head making a console that was too expensive for it's time and pushed the idea of a unique infrastructure so hard then it's hard to say who would've "won" the generation.

By the time they reached the One, the people in charge had already showed they had no idea what they were doing and were useless MBAs who don't understand even CEOs or other soulless MBAs of game publishers let alone game developers. Xbox had burned bridges throughout the entirety of the 360 gen, shut down numerous studios (so did Sony to be fair) and guys like Don Mattrick were known to be not believers of Xbox, and instead used the Xbox to push things they actually cared about (in Don's case it was the Kinect).
Don Mattrick did do extensive damage. On the same token, Phil Spencer was working with Xbox at that time as well. He handled RARE (lol) and Lionhead, of which a majority of it's core talent left and had numerous bad things to say about management.
Don Mattrick was a fucking idiot, but at least he was passionate about the Kinect. If Microsoft gave him his own little play-area instead of sticking him on the Xbox, he probably would've made a better impression. Phil Spencer tanked Xbox, he tanked the studios, and his damage was solidified when he was made head of Xbox.
>>
>>735089763
Don was saving Xbox cause the 360 was a RROD shit-show and came dead last in it's gen. Xbox One being an All in One media center was a great idea and the first OS with all the features (now long cut) was a great start.

Phil killed Xbox.
>>
>>735099418
To cap this rambling off I'd say that Phil Spencer is easily the thing that killed Xbox, or is a prime example of what killed Xbox.
He's the exact type of guy that looks good for a multi-billion dollar company, a guy willing to take a job that no one else wants, who seemingly can take the fall for you. Phil's biggest issue is that he was passionate, which sounds insane, but he was awful, absolutely awful at his job.
Him being passionate in his corporate environment and being able to be just as close to the top of the pond let him stay in his position, and as people left the sinking ship that he himself poked the holes in, no one was there to tell him what a poor job he was actually doing and why he shouldn't have been in charge.

This isn't unique to the Xbox/games division of Microsoft. It happens across many different companies, I've met people like Phil before. They aren't bad people necessarily, sometimes they don't even realize what they're doing. Phil I'm unsure of, but its clear looking at his history and the comments that people make about him.
