It's not like the game is impossible on default firerate, but you will probably end up spending about 5~7 extra seconds fighting early bosses. There's not much difference between 8Hz and 10Hz if you are already playing as one of the top ships anyway (wild snail, gain and miyamoto).

In a run n' gun or something, once I'm better at the game I can engage in riskier play to both clear stages faster and keep things fun, but shoot'em ups always proceed in the exact same way at a fixed pace.
