We had no idea how good we had it, and how much worse it would get.

What are you talking about? World was THE game that killed MH and turned it into soulless casual movie slop. Rise and Wilds just followed the same tune.
>>
>>735095030
World was the perfect MonHun because it was a perfect mix of hardcore and casual where all kinds of players could have fun.

westernization and realism slop is what's killing the main series. STOP IT
I play this game to fullfill my male fantasy of unba bunga. not BBC propaganda.
>>
the older ones are too old, but the newer ones are too new
>>
>>735095176
Nothing about the game was hardcore though? Compared to the rest of the series before it, it's casualized beyond belief.

but anon said there was a whole mix of hardcore things.
how can there have been nothing hardcore?

either one of you is lying, or one of you doesn't understand what hardcore means

Rise apologists really are just tendies, aren't they? You either hate all Nu slop like a real fan or you admit you're newfaggots with no standards. It has all the same dog shit changes World made.
>>
>>735095293
Honestly, the series peaked with 3U (emulated WiiU version)
>>
>>735095797
the game is terminal weeb shit. ninjas and dongo and anime graphics and yOOOoo.

of course the fans would be the most obnoxious shitters
>>
Shit on world all you like but I'll always appreciate it for changing the skill system. The newer games have less of that "increased fart resistance on a tuesday" bullshit, and passives that do nothing unless you reach a certain threshold to even activate them. Fuck doing hundreds of egg runs just to pray for a talisman with the right randomized stat otherwise your build does nothing because you're at +9 instead of +10. The only thing that system accomplished was limiting your choices.

I never liked world all that much.
It removed a lot of the silly, cozy, simple charm the series had always had, in favor of a god awful ""cinematic story"" and a deluded grandiose presentation... The roster was extremely bland (just a bunch of wyverns and lizards). the weapon designs sucked. The elders' recess was a bunch of boring grey hallways that most of the endgame took place in. And the OST went for a generic orchestral sound, rather than the cool bagpipes, caveman flutes, digeridoos, and other wild exotic sounds from previous games.

Do I even have to mention iceborne with the clutch claw .....
>>
>>735096139
It's an improvement, but I'm really not happy they just shifted the RNG into decos.

MH world is shit, the clutch claw sucks and if you disagree you are a faggot, simple as.
>>
>>735096139
The new games have a problem on the other extreme end where now everyone easily gets 500 skills per set and become unstoppable immortal killing machines clearing everything in 3mins
>>
>>735093705
I definitely knew. To this day, I haven't had a gaming experience as fun and fulfiling as World. Its a lightning in the bottle experience
>>
>>735096202
>The elders' recess was a bunch of boring grey hallways that most of the endgame took place in.
but that's only one map that shows up at the very end, you fight there like two times
>>
>>735096139
The new skill system allows for to much skill bloat and DPS spam. Atleast Wilds addressed that somewhat.
>>735096285
Also this. They just shifted the RNG spam to Decos instead of charms.
>>
The gameplay of this franchise was never good sadly. It has lots of charm otherwise.

>>
>>735096608
Forgiving Rise for making the same mistakes as World and Wilds is gigantic newfaggot behavior. You are not some cool oldfag who only plays portable games while shitting on mainline, or whatever it is you think.
>>
>>735096424
Are you illiterate or are you suggesting that everyone turned off the game after beating nergigante
>>
>>735096864
Rise only gets this reputation because of tourists who wanted to play "Old MH" and just turned on Gen ultimate because it has "all the old stuff"

They played that and saw the similarities to rise and concluded that rise must be like classic MH

I'm not interested in forced AAA cutscene stories and realism gayness. I like mohun as poaching anime silumator.

I bet mhf gives you an aneurysm
>>
>>735097324
he's the final boss, so what else would you do?
you gonna fight the same monsters again and then complain it's the same, is that what you're doing?
>>
>>735097570
It's true that rise is more charming in being a village focused game with an unobtrusive story that's just about defending your village (nice!) BUT the wirebugs and anime ninja power up moves are just as bad at destroying a classic MH atmosphere as the Overdramatic cinematic cutscenes and story in World/wilds are.
>>
World was where the series went to shit, dough.
>>
Am I the only one who finds World really ugly? Everyone always hypes up the graphics but I find the art style to be kind of shit.

I still think World is too easy until late Iceborn. I wish gathering was more important, that has always been my favorite part of MH since FU. I love having to take pickaxes out and fill my small inventory several dozen times in order to raft any new armor. I hate how easy resources are to get in the new titles, makes the game so boring when all you do is fight monsters.

I mean if you want to be super puritan about it then 4U is where it started going off the rails. Shagaru has the same bullshit aoe explosions that have ubiquitous with modern monster hunter.
>>
>>735099687
I partially blame Generations for this, the playable cat was a test to see what people would do if they had infinite pickaxe and shit
>>
>>735099423
Alatreon is living proof that the vast majority of the platerbase uses exactly one weapon. Not one weapon weapon class, I mean one singular weapon from the entire weapon tree. So when these people are told to build something else for the first time in their lives, they kick and scream all day until the the final two bosses gut elemental weaknesses entirely and focus entirely on raw.

Thanks for removing Fatalis's weakness to dragon, newfaggots
>>
>>735099687
You just need breathing room otherwise you burn out from non-stop action combat

There's nothing stopping you from taking it slow, fishing , walking , taking in the scenery and harvesting stuff, but world and especially wilds make it unappealing since they fast track those things in various ways so you don't HAVE to take it slow.

In the old games you have to be conscientious and methodical about your gathering, slow, chill quests because there was no avoiding them.
>>
>>735099940
Exactly. I have been playing Dos and FU and 4U a bunch recently, and the down time even in an active hunt quest, walking to find the monster, the monster leaving the area across the whole map, really does add to the feeling of adventure and increases the enjoyment of a successful hunt. It also makes carting feel much worse, so an actual punishment.

What the fuck do you mean. World was the monkey's paw for me. I want monster hunter on PC and a little bit more modern. Oh how I got my fucking wish. MHGU and Sunbreak are the best
>>
>>735098069
>muh classic mh
Talking cats and flexing and eating. Fuck off the animu shit is infinitely more welcome than clutch claw and focus shit.
Forced Muh Nature has no place in MH
>>
>>735100601
In old combat you had to be proactive, being attentive until the positioning and timing were right to strike. Even blocks are too slow and get caught 99% of the time unless you specifically planned them 3 seconds ago.

In new combat you have to be reactive, you just reflexively react if the monster is coming at you, with a block a dodge or a counter , all of which are very fast and require no planning

People confuse planning for jank because your character doesn't immediately do what you want
>>
>>735100616
God sunbreak is terrible.
>>
Wilds would be good if the performance wasn't so shit.

I am brave enough to say it . They went too far.

In every previous game the hunters were slow , clumsy , goofy , macho meatheads who constantly fall over , belly flop, stumble eachother, and get sent on their ass if the monster so much twitches it's toe. Not graceful, not 'cool', just hardy and determined.

In rise they're suddenly acrobatic masters sprinting up mountains doing backflips and spiderman swings and *teleports behind you* tier bullshit super moves
>>
>>735100835
This except the complete opposite opinion. Like sure it made the game more arcade-y but what the fuck do you expect? Every MH prior to World was a fucking slog to play. Going from 4U to World was like going from RE3 to 4. It's so much nicer to be able to ACTUALLY CONTROL THE CAMERA
>>
>>735093705
yeah world really ruined the franchise going forward
>>
>>735101056
Bullshit. I played 4u for the first time since 2016 on a fat old 3ds yesterday and it plays fine.. literally just use LT to track the monster with the auto cam. I had no problem at all
>>
>>735101229
>literally just use LT to track the monster with the auto cam
Rolling in random directions is a great way to get yourself killed when you hit a ledge and decide to climb up it. No one used this feature in later games.
>>
>>735098670
Honestly I'm the opposite. I didn't appreciate World till Wilds plastered brown and gray smudges on everything.
>>
>>735101365
What the fuck are you sperging about? You press LT and the camera points wherever the monster is

You press it a lot, and you don't ever have to worry about manually adjusting the camera
