The first two levels after the tutorial (Bafford's mansion) are absolute kino. You will either agree it's kino or you will hate it, because it's not a classic "thief robbing a mansion" mission. It clearly establishes that Garrett is a thief more similar to a Dungeons & Dragons rogue, who robs magical artifacts from monster-filled dungeons. That is also why he wears hard leather boots and not soft silent slippers.
