This game starts way overtuned. In the first area you can fight random battles, monsters have counter, cure, and hit like trucks. Getting a scrappy group of chemists and squires off the ground is a nightmare.
Yet, any amount of grinding trivializes Dorter, the fourth fight in the game that people kept telling me was hard. Am I going to be swinging between under and overpowered the whole time?
