There honestly is a lot of genius to this game that every sandbox, cozy, and survival game for the next 10 years should take inspiration from.
It has chore-like mechanics, but it manages to keep them varied from area to area. One place it's watering grass, the next it's sweeping up volcanic ash and building minecarts tracks, the next it's building bridges, etc.
There's always a dozen things you can be doing, but you're never overwhelmed. There's a wide range of how much effort and brainpower each task will require and you can always do something simple like pick weeds or destroy the ruined spots in a road while you decide on your next big goal.
It has time gating, but it's soft enough that it feels more like a nudge to drop off of the game for the day or to look into all the other stuff you could be doing
The decayed world means that there are outlines of buildings and starts of paths and bridges that you can generally just follow an algorithm to complete. This gets you over the biggest hurdle in a sandbox game of laying the first brick. But there are areas where it isn't so clear-cut or you may just want to deviate for fun, and this keeps the creativity alive.
The Pokemon themselves help with this as well. You don't always know what pokemon will spawn when you build its habitat so it creates scenarios like "oh yeah I have a bird here, and I don't want to move it. How can I make it feel like a bird's environment"
Even gets mechanics like smelting and cooking right which you almost never see in this type of game. I just hope retards don't do an anti-circlejerk and write this off as just another sandbox farm and craft game

>console exclusive
There's no reason to play this unless you're a mindless pokemon slave

The only other pokemon games I played are Pokemon Pinball and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I tried one of the RPGs and got bored because the tutorial was too long and turned it off after one battle

>wants to make the town on the cover
>starting area is nothing but hills and mountains
god damn it

Totally agreed, it's outright soulful that it's a post-apocalyptic world. Each area having a different type of disaster scenario is the icing on the cake as you mentioned, since this means each area has different goals you will naturally want to achieve.

My biggest complaint is the housing system, I really wish the game was more centered around building up habitats instead of encouraging people to just move all their Pokemon into houses.

You really don't need to make houses tho. I felt the same way at first but then I realize that you could just leave the pokemon outside and still get the happiness up. Only ones I have living indoors are ones that feel like they bleong there. My one annoyance is when they want a big bed, that kind of fucks with the outdoors thing if you're not somewhere where a hammock or a straw bed will look good

DQ Builders is better

I still never found quite a lot of Pokemon on my first playthrough; Pikachu, Snorlax, Tatsugiri. I'm having a cosier time taking it slower on my second playthrough. It's really good and it scratches that Viva Pinata itch.

>pay $70 to be time gated like a freemium mobile game

you can just make fences with a door, the game considers it a house. then you can just have the natural habitat for them

>survival
survive what? there's no battles nor danger

I've been waiting for a reason to buy a Switch 2 and this is it
>>
>>735098235
I agree, palworld is great.
>>
Just play Cobblemon, faggots.
>>
I think it's a good game but I'm not buying a Switch 2 for it.
>>
They really expect me to carve out a huge portion of my maps to get the legendary birds, huh?
What makes the most thematic sense? I'm thinking:
>remote part of the volcano for the fire altar
>remote mountains past the beach for the power plant
>remote island in the sky for the ice chamber
>>
Anyone who thinks Palworld is better should be shot. Viva Piñata with Pokemon beats generic PC survivalslop for third world browns.

I have no interest in this game, I'm just glad it's enjoying the spotlight and getting massive praise and moving Sw2 units all while palworld fans seethe. 2026 has been fun :)

Some of these required habitats are getting wacky. Is this really needed?
>>
>>735098235
The storage system in this game is abysmal. Why the fuck is there no universal storage system or ability to search for an item and have the game tell you which box you have it in?

there's 300 pokemon, so they need to get creative with some of these habitats
