Why was the UK's home computer of choice so fucking horrible? Even my eastern euro shithole preferred the vastly superior C64. Japs had the PC-88 and MSX. All of them can run games that look a full generation better.

The C64 cost about 2 grand in today's money, there's no way any of you retarded slav apes could afford that. The speccy was a fifth of the price even a young lad could buy one with the wages from his paper round

This was a time when home PCs were basically only just becoming a thing, there were hardly standards, so going with the cheaper options wasn't that dumb.

The UK was the only place to have a successful entry level PC so cheap a kid could get one for christmas. All the other computers of the era were literally 10 times the price.
The ZX Spectrum is shit don't get me wrong but it was more influential than anything else of it's era in it's region.

The C64 was called the "Computer of the Republic" here and still gets books and documentaries done about it. In fact thanks to the VIC-20 and C64 finns were so well positioned for the technology race of the 1990s and early 2000s when the middle-aged Commodorefags started running their own tech companies.

In 1983 brits were playing manic miner on the speccy and the Japanese were playing duck hunt, excite bike and ice climber.

>Only game worth playing on it is a fan port of Castlevania made in the 2010s
Every original game this thing had is better on the C64
>>
>>735103241
ZX was really the kid's choice. In countries were adults were buying home computers for family use the C64 was more common. Looking at christmas 1984 prices in my country you could buy a C64 with a cassette player and controller for 1000€, inflation adjusted.
>>
Even by 1986 the games were still complete shit. In Japan they had megaman, castlevania and Metroid by then and brits were still playing shit like this. Awful.

>Comparing games on a cartridge for a machine designed soley for gaming to those on a cassette tape for a home micro
You're not too bright are you
>>
>>735104389
That doesn't really excuse the ZX when you had home computers like the MSX and SC-3000 (basically identical internals for this comparison) that were essentially on par with a Colecovision and not much more expensive than a ZX.
>>
>>735104770
Why would Brits buy computers made for the Japanese when they had their own, including the superior BBC Micro? You seem to be very ignorant on the 80s British computer market.

Those games can still be played today and be enjoyed. That elite crap looks boring as shit. Besides the speccy can't even handle side scrolling LOL.

Little brits playing their little poverty gaming machines MUH 3 POUND A GAME IN ME CORNER SHOP eating food like Hitlers planes are still flying over haha

Not a single early 1980s PC could do that. Even on the C64 the vast majority of games didn't scroll. On systems like the MSX and SC-3000 you had scrolling but it was choppy, 1 refresh per second stuff. Even the Famicom which was made to play video games had to resort to mappers in the cartridge itself to enable proper scrolling in most of its games.

Dizzy games and other bong adventure titles are actually more fun than most American adventure games of the time. At least Dizzy games made sense.

If you haven't beaten Zniggy for the Speccy you aren't a real gamer.
