The HD Remaster allows you to play it properly because since the 3DS online shut down and most emus didn't ever put the game in a "suspend" state, you'd almost never be able to complete the village rebuilding without doing so. On the good side, this has the Japanese audio option which the 3DS did not. On the bad, they kept the censorship of the western releases of the Switch 2 version (a few costumes for jobs, an enemy's appearance, artworks etc) and it seems to be global this time..maybe. I'm looking to see if there are any ways to mod the uncensored stuff in. i picked up Bravely Default HD and found that i can get a 3DS-like aesthetic using a ReShade downsampling filter. i think it objectively looks better downsampled and with the in-game AA disabled than it does at native resolution with any anti-aliasing solution. it just does not appear to be a game that was designed to be viewed in high res, which is quite clever for a 3DS game but does not translate well to a console and PC release.
