but I do feel like games should step up a bit in that department compared to 20 years ago
>>735102320Well, don't look to the Japanese for tech advancements. They still lock games to 60fps.
>>735102320They are doing perfectly fine besides extremely low budget RPGs made for japanese consumers who legendarily slurp up anything
>>735102453I'm pretty sure the Japanese mindset for stuff like programming is "if it's not completely broken beyond usability, don't even think of touching it".
>>735102320Notwithstanding the fact that Falcom has been hugely stepping up their fidelity game. In what universe do those graphics look 20 years old?
Falcom makes stuff cheap and fast. They're based for that.
>>735102870Oh, I don't know.I guess THIS fucking universe?
>>735104498I really do not miss the greybrownslop era.
>>735102320What's wrong with the graphics? If anything, the big problem is that everything is running in the same game engine with the same lighting engine, and so all looks the same. Almost nothing really looks distinctive or designed with its own style because it's all just different models running the same software.>>735104498I see more than grey, brown, and piss-green in the OP image, so clearly there's some progress.
graphics should have never advanced past the ps3.
>>735109513Can you imagine how actually expansive game worlds could be if studios weren't so obsessed with making everything with absolutely absurd fidelity? It's funniest with MMOs, where one of the biggest, most consistent problems causing new ones to fail is not having enough content. Like no shit it's hard to make enough content to satisfy MMO gamers when your monsters and environments require so much detail it takes 9 months to pump out one shitty dungeon.
>>735109513So the switch 1
>>735109513They didn't
>>735102719Doesn't help that their budget is for most part 10% of similar western company. Ys is a relatively old and well known Japanese IP. It's not FF or DQ or even Tales or Xenoshit, but it's still a staple JRPG and yet their budget is about the same as a indie dev with a semi-successful kickstarter in the west (and that's ignoring how most of the money goes to VAs).
>>735102320Games were better when they had worse graphics. Fact
>>735102320ok, enjoy your updated requirements with 64GB of RAM, 300GB of free space, an RTX 7090, and a ryzen 10800X3D just to attain 30 FPS at 1920x1080 with DLSS on
