What's wrong with the graphics?
If anything, the big problem is that everything is running in the same game engine with the same lighting engine, and so all looks the same. Almost nothing really looks distinctive or designed with its own style because it's all just different models running the same software.

Can you imagine how actually expansive game worlds could be if studios weren't so obsessed with making everything with absolutely absurd fidelity? It's funniest with MMOs, where one of the biggest, most consistent problems causing new ones to fail is not having enough content. Like no shit it's hard to make enough content to satisfy MMO gamers when your monsters and environments require so much detail it takes 9 months to pump out one shitty dungeon.

Doesn't help that their budget is for most part 10% of similar western company.

Ys is a relatively old and well known Japanese IP. It's not FF or DQ or even Tales or Xenoshit, but it's still a staple JRPG and yet their budget is about the same as a indie dev with a semi-successful kickstarter in the west (and that's ignoring how most of the money goes to VAs).
