do civilian murder simulators cause real world violence? are the people who enjoy them mentally unwell?
Safe to say that in common people these games help release urges and frustrations in a safe way, but there's your 1 in 100 000 or less people who will treat video games as a training simulator.

Asking "does [media depicting X] cause [people to do X] is entirely a chicken and egg thing. People are products of their environments, and the environment is created by the people. It's a self-reinforcing loop. It is to nobody's surprise how the US, the biggest producer and consumer of gratuitously violent media to the point where a nipple is scarier than highly detailed gore and mutilation, just so happens to be the murder and homicide capital of the world.
>>735110240This. It is a cycle exaggerated by ease of access. 50 years ago a guy who briefly thought "what if I dress up like a cartoon dragon and talk about how much I want to fuck a toaster" would swiftly be put in his place. Now he can find an entire group of dragon suit wearing toaster fuckers who discuss the best suits and the best positions for toasterfucking at his fingertips.
>/v/ contrarians are trying to dig up arguments from almost 30 years agolol
Criminality is more highly associated with other factors such as education and economic status
>>735108876There's no evidence outside correlated anecdotes, like saying every murderer has held a murder weapon, but only because they used something to murder someone that many people can use without killing anyone, like a corkscrew or a car
>>735110240You are merely pretending that you really think like that but just for the sake of argument. There are endless amount of people who play video games where they feel it's cool to shoot someone in the knee, neck and between the eyes and then while driving away they deliberately drive over pedestrians and laugh at how the characters fly. This at the most just reveals there's some darkness in all people just so they know how to recognize it in others and that's about it.
>>735111956>There are endless amount of people who play video games where they feel it's cool to shoot someone in the knee, neck and between the eyes and then while driving away they deliberately drive over pedestrians and laugh at how the characters fly.I've got news for you buddy. They're psychopaths.
>>735111956>>735112061I know it was a zoomer meme a few months back but I genuinely never played GTA games and just mindlessly mowed down civilians. I mean maybe a few to get the cops on me but that's where the actual fun is because there's challenge.
>>735110859>outside correlated anecdotesnigger.there AREN'T ANY correlated anecdotes.the correlations show the opposite.
>>735112061>>735112248It was a half baked example because running over peds in gta probably stops being fun to anyone pretty quickly but you rather treat them as ants you might accidentally walk over.Otherwise the example stands as in people who would be extremely distressed about seeing someone else in a bad spot in real life can still use video games (or their imagination) to go thru scenarios where they are the one doing unspeakable acts. There can be many reasons for it like channeling stress or dark urges or intrusive thoughts and shit. The difference between psychopaths and people having intrusive thoughts (ocd) is that psychopaths think it's cool shit and the ocd people think it's a burden.
