How accurate is this

>>
>>735117156
Accurate I guess. Fallout 2 doesn't take anything seriously and constantly breaks immersion. Fallout 1 is more bleak and depressing.

not even remotely
>>
>>735117156
Yes. fallout 1 is a bit campy but takes itself seriously. 2 has a lot of fun with the characters and protag making jokes and quips

i recently played through all the main games and i think i loved my time in 1 the most
2 was great but 1 just felt a little more grounded and tight
i will say, i dropped the fuck out of 4. do NOT play fallout 1 and 4 in the same time period. i did not need some dedicated reddit (sarcastic) button instead of good dialog

Made either by academically trained artist with passion or art professionals from other fields, since you had to have specific education to work at any job. Despite having centralized animation institution majority of works are done by separate branches and artists, with little relation to each other. It didn't need to develop a commercial recognizable brand style like Disney intentionally made, government is always setting things up for you.
Also as usual cartoons where mostly seen as government mandated entertainment for children, so you can get away with a lot of things, especially if you make them bizarre, so it'll fly over the head of your average comrade pencil pusher.

mildly. 1 is bleak. 2 is... idk what 2 is I haven't finished it, but there is something about it that makes it just kind of going through the motions with heavier emphasis on goofiness.
>>735119672
this. 1 is very immersive. I can't figure out how to immerse myself in 2 for whatever variety of reasons. I think 2 needed more dev time and tighter focus as it plays like a wandering disjointed experience but some people love 2.

The fallout community hates each other because the tone/gravity/immersion/genre whips around wildly game to game. people only really like one or two of the games that suit their preferred tone and hate the rest. I'm a 1 and NewVegas guy personally, the rest of the series is varying degrees of "wrong" with the show being the absolute worst offender

I have 120 immersion mods running to salvage Fallout 4 and it still is completely unimmersive. Where do all these raiders and supermutants come from? Its fatiguing.

>>735117834
idk but I really like Soviet Through the Looking Glass.
>>
>>735117156
I loved this cartoon as a kid. I think I still have a bootleg cassette in the garage somewhere. Though its probably everywhere now especially after being memed.
>>
2 has way too many slog moments, that's why so many people haven't finished it. F1 is a tight, cohesive if barebones experience from start to finish

nta
fallout 1 is bleak
fallout 2 is goofy
that being said the i prefer fallout 1 for at least being tonally consistent. fallout 2 has serious moments that are constantly ruined by stupid jokes and pop culture references.

Fallout 2:
>beggar: please sir, even one cap will help
>raider: how about this? *blows beggar's head off with a shotgun*
>random guy: well THAT just happened!
>other random guy: awkward....
>raider: the player is right behind me isn't he...
>*combat starts*

correction, fallout 2 uses ncr dollars as currency but you get the point. fallout 2 had reddit tier writing before reddit was even a thing.
>>
>>735132078
wtf happened
>>
>>735132590
wtf happened with the writing you mean? some say it is due to the fact that fallout 2 had a rushed development. im pretty sure the devs just wanted to be funny though. you know for a fact that if fallout 2 was made today they would use that joke along with a character saying "wubadubadub" or "bazinga"
>>
Livesly did fuck all in the movie. Jim was the real badass. Fucking casuals.
>>
Does anyone else think it's weird how the most die-hard of Fallout fans only actually like two of the games, and call anyone who likes all of them they've played a fake fan, or a tourist?
>>
>>735132078
>>735132590
My favorite part about playing a post-nuclear RPG is when they "advance the setting" and try as hard as possible to remove all the post apocalypse stuff.
>>
>>735131972
>>735132078
The Xers who wrote it are the same generation as Joss Whedon, the father of modern reddit writing. Reddit marvelslop writing comes from Xers.

This. Seriously. Fallout seems to represent some kind of *idea* of what an RPG with meaningful free choice could do and be to people. People don't like it for the actual game play or polish of anything, and huge amounts of it are vestigial or barely useful jank, but it gives you this sense of "oh, I could go here and do this and that would actually change things and how the game plays out", even if a lot of it is actually basic. RPGs rarely live up to anything like the ideal people have of them when they consider their potential, so Fallout is the closest to "next best thing" many people have.

Nintendo on the other hand win people over by making things that actually surpass people's expectations of what they thought they were going to get from. Like almost nobody would have actually imagined an adventure game as good as Zelda in all the specific ways it is great prior to playing it and experiencing what it does.

>Fallout 1, 3
>excellent post-apocalyptic atmosphere
>comedic moments are rare but memorable, and few rely on references
>interesting world but very little exposition, lore is mostly left to the player's imagination
>iconic factions like the BoS and Super Mutants which are still the face of the franchise to this day

>Fallout 2, NV
>grim post-apocalyptic atmosphere is mostly abandoned in favor of a post-post-apocalyptic frontier vibe
>comedy is turned up, in 2 with its endless references and in NV with what its midwit writers assumed smart people talk like.
>the Enclave is cool but not as much as the BoS, and New Reno, Vault City, the Shi, NCR and Legion are okay as one off one-town factions but fall flat as major powers and anchors of the plot.

>Fallout 4, 76 and the show
>happy-go-lucky borderlands atmosphere, anything grim was thrown out the window
>comedy is everywhere. you can't go a single conversation/show scene without some Marvel quip slipping in.
>the BoS is still around and they have cooler equipment but they're getting flanderized and becoming more cringe with every appearance. the same will probably happen with the Enclave.
>Minutemen, Institute and Railroad once again fall flat as major factions, but at least the examples I listed earlier have been destroyed or brought down to one-off one-town factions.

I like the contrast between 1 and 2, I think they both compliment each other and see it as a progression of the story, world, and setting
>>
>>735134802
>no progress allowed, nuke it again
I'm not buying your game Todd.

>>735119672
sarcastic option is awful because you can never fucking know if the guy is gonna make a joke, insult the npc or just sound really angry.
"thankfully" nothing matters, your dialogue options in that game are yes, yes, yes and no (which just means "later").
>>
I don't remember who exactly, but one of the producers or writer of FO2 stated that there was a lack of oversight when it came to the writers. This resulted in all the writers thinking they were gonna be the guy to insert pop culture references & humor. Not exactly the intention.
>>
>>735117156
Accurate. Fallout 2 is the most reddit game in the series, worse jokes than NW
>>
>>735118258
Because it was a promise and a dream that went unfulfilled but lead to great success and good games either way no matter how much they deterred from the original premise and dream, like daggerfall. I like every fallout game but I still understand the wanting of the idea that 1 promised, and I think the series would be better if it did stick to that.

its notable but not "weird". I explained that here >>735127432 in this post. the writing focus and tone change a lot. 1 and 76 are from completely different eras of gaming, not to mention different genres, not to mention different contradicting lores. The series moves between developers even. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone that likes Snowblind's falloutBOS AND Interplay's FO1 AND Bethesda's FO4. They are made by different people for different audiences and they are all somewhat flawed and jank in their own ways
people who have actually played/tried every game in the series would know this. Only a faggot tourist would say something like that they like every single one of them. Never met anyone who likes all of them.
2 players tend to like 1. 76 players tend to like 4. 3 and NV players used to have beef but in the grand scheme of things have more in common than they ever didn't.

the passion/animosity within the community comes from the setting and story-telling scratching a huge itch for some players only to have droughts of 11 years between good installments. the show and 76 do absolutely nothing for any of us, just like a reddit girl who maybe played fo4 once is very unlikely to go back and play fo1+2
>>
>>735136573
3 and NV are literally the same game except new Vegas has better writing. I don’t get the war between these 2. Love both of them,
