What went wrong?

Metroid Prime formula already ran it's course with the first game2nd game had some shifting gimmicks that weren't well received3rd game went full shooter that felt novel at the time (aka nearly 2 decades ago) because motion controlsWhat next? How bout the same but even less inspired than before because it's a idea already done but way better close to 25 years ago.
>>735124012Do you actually think the open world motorcycle area is not unique for Metroid, but going "full shooter" is?
>>735123232With how good Samus' animations are when she goes in and out of Morphball mode I'm surprised they didn't add a 3rd person mode
>>735124524Again like I said the novelty of the motion controls for the time mixed with Metroid stuff was neat, for it's time. A giant exploration area with barely anything in it that you traverse with a vehicle? Wow it's like I'm playing Wind Waker or Black Flag all over again!

>>735123232millennial writing and game design
>>735123232its boring and uninteresting, even the average poster here could have probably come up with a better setting and characters and motivation for sylux
/v/ will never live this game down. There are people who bought a Switch and then Switch 2 mainly for this trash that even Retro seem ashamed to have put out
>>735125347Seriously what is there to do on the switch 2
>>735125417Smash
>>735125417Bananza
Tanabe genuinely does not get enough hate. Look at this dude's output post Tropical Freeze.
>>735125549Mixed but not terrible
>>735125590If you cut out remasters, the only good things this guy has been involved with in over 10 years amount to Warioware, and Luigi's Mansion 3.
>>735123232I just beat the game. It felt like 90% of it was fine, but after you complete the final area development became super rushed and unfocused. Seemed like they thought the game was too short and wanted to pad it out a lot, but the desert stuff isn't "terrible". I'm not sure what they were thinking with the final boss. having to protect the NPCs while he does AOE damage is pretty dumb and many of his attacks you're not even sure what you're supposed to do and I had to look up some tips just to figure it out. Like nowhere else 9in the game do you really need to use morph ball charging in battles and suddenly it's a hug part. The worst thing is when he does his morph form and steals your energy tanks. You can avoid his attack all day and nothing happens until he hits you, and steals one then you have to play a weird mini game if using the charge on him to get it back. Really bizarre and not very fun. I hope they can patch some of this stuff in the future.
>>735123232Should have been Switch 2 only but Switch 1 retards who bought the console just for Prime 4 would have sudoku'd.
>>735125980Wouldn't have mattered if they were still chasing the BOTW trend
>>735123232It is really, really boring. I got it for Christmas and just finally got around to beating it the other day. I couldn't bring myself to play it often, it was just a slog. Metroid Prime 1 is a game I've played through a few times over the years but I will probably never touch this one again. I like better than 2 though, I guess. That game was just awful.
>>735123232It needed more character interaction, some dialogue choices would have been nice, they should have been more integral to the plot. That's what's wrong with Prime 4.
>>735125549I cannot understate how fucking terrible Nintendo has been in giving retards like Tanabe full-reign in many major series of major Nintendo franchises under the guise of casualization for mainstream appeal and gameplay gimmick-faggotry galore. So many of these bombed games could've been avoided if an actual higher up aside from senile granpas like Miyamoto forced Tanabe to focus on overall quality.
>>735123232It's more boring than being offensively bad and feels like the devs had to string together different builds with the shitty open world to bridge it all together. When Samus isn't in Sol Valley smashing green crystals or Volt Forge for new powerups, she's going through a far more railroaded section and everything is padded out with unique scan entries instead of crystals, while shooting what amounts to like three main types of enemies. And all these powerups she's getting generally amount to 'Psychic' versions of what she's already used in the past and rarely do anything new. What went right is that the game is actually competently optimized for the original Switch and wasn't a shitty backport designed to upsell the new console. Now if only my joycons weren't spazzing out in the separate controller mode.Suffice to say it is a disappointment. Maybe Retro will have better luck if they're not having to unfuck whatever Bamco shat out after eating up the budget.
>>735123232Nintendo meddling and sabotaging it with forced open world bullshit just because BotW was successful and they want ALL their games to be like BotW now.
>>735130138The open world is not even "forced" more than it is totally underbaked and you don't even do much with it until the very end.
>>735123232For some reason Nintendo didn't realize all we want is another isolating atmospheric action adventure in a creepy hostile alien world so they tried to make it halo or breath of the wild instead.
>>735130420Metroid has always been famously unpopular in Japan whereas BotW was a massive hit in both east and west, so naturally they thought if they made Metroid into another BotW it would be a surefire global success.Such is the way of 35 million copies sold.
>>735130138I wish Prime 4 were open world. We already evolved past Oot's hubworld shit, and yet that's what they came up with. Gaming hits different after you experience Breath of the Wild, but no one seems to *get* the game at all.
