Bullseye.
Nvidia is pressured to come up with something new for investors.
But the fact is that Nvidia is just a bunch of hardware people. Coming up with uses is software devs' jobs. The result is Nvidia coming up with nonsense while trying to pass it off as innovation

Please understand we only trained on very well lit images. Underlit and dark images are not good for the training set. I think gamers will just get used to it and learn to like it.
You want me to fix it? Hey fuck you man don't you know i put zero effort into making this. It's pretty amazing that even though it's rank dog shit I put zero effort into making it so the value is actually infinite
>>
>>735128339
It looks like nvidia completely lost interest in vidiya, so they push any idea from their software engineers. From their standpoint, after upscaling and framegen, ai postprocessing is the next step

>>735129546

Poor training data and general goal misalignment. They probably got a lot of high fidelity camera shots of real people to achieve this effect, but the thing about high quality photographs is that they tend to be taken with bright studio lights, hence the model's bias towards fully illuminated faces. This in turn produces goal misalignment. In movies, TV, video games, etc the lighting tends to vary over a wide spectrum from "fully bright" to "Extremely dark" but you wouldn't take pictures of people in the dark, what would be the point if you couldn't see them? So the back half of this artistic spectrum has no representation in the data. So the machine basically doesn't know it exists, and overwrites it with what it does know.

That's what's funny about it. They're marketing it as a "lighting" improvement despite it being an AI slop filter but it makes what they claim it's for, worse.

It's funny, I'm as anti-AI as they come but I think this technology could be used to achieve amazing looking games
>you could have a filter that takes a cel shaded game and flattens it so the colors, poses, and expressions always look like they were designed for the player controller camera angle
>this would make it look like a genuine 2D animated game that takes place in 3D and avoids all the ugly 3D stuff that only ArcSys knows how to work around and only with fixed camera angles
>you could have games that look like Arcane, TMNT Mutant Mayhem, Loving Vincent, and other animated media that requires a ton of manual adjustments for every frame
>you could have games that actually feel moody and atmospheric like old games with pre-rendered backgrounds by creating an always shifting atmosphere that usually gets lost when you rotate a camera and realize it's all just 3D assets
>you could have 3D games that look like Amano's or Shinkawa's concept art or other art styles that rely on ethereal qualities that consistent handmade 3D doesn't work well with
>you could have the ability to flip a switch and make GTA look like the painted loading screen art
Really the sky is the limit if you use it as a tool to finish off a style that was impossible or too much work up until now

And of course literally all they use it for is making dogshit HDR grainy photorealism..
>>
>>735143134

>>

>>
>>735143242
It does have a lot of potential. The main issue I see is that games would have to be made from the ground up woth dlss in mind, which won't happen for a long time because of poorfags and AMD fags.
It will likely take a decade before we start seeing this stuff be used properly in most games.
>>
>>735143242
Emphasis on the "could" there.
>>
>>735143439
I wonder how much of the current performance load is due to DLSS and how much is due to the game itself, maybe in theory you could make a much simpler looking game like Half-Life 2 tier in terms of polygons, textures, lights etc, to massively save on performance and then have DLSS make something out of it to reduce the hardware requirements

Right now they're applying it to games that are already very demanding
>>
>>735143242
Imagine if they open sourced the weights and modders could train art styles that you could mod into games.

>games would have to be made from the ground up woth dlss in mind
They already are and things have never been more grim.
>>

DLSS gives you more fps and looks better than the stock TAA.

>>735144183
Better turn video games off too. God didn't intend them. They're just digital slop and there will always be artifacts.
>>
>>735144737
Ray tracing stands for using rays outside of your viewport to cast lights. No it wasn't possible before, not without tanking your fps into unplayable numbers.

Maybe if you're a Pajeet who's too poor to supersample games.

>$5000 worth of GPUs
>60 fps
That's how they think video games should be played?
>>
>>735145981
DLSS can be used for supersampling too yes. And compared to the native solutions it basically looks like that already without the negatives.

I'm not American either. It is still fucking me and I'm as far from USA as you can get

AAA will make low poly barely comprehensible assets and turn this shit on as a requirement. It's the ultimate "do no work and infinite profit margin." whilst forcing the AAA consumers into their services
>>
>>735129546
The "muh proprietary" guy is a retard who has no idea what he's talking about.
It doesn't work for emulation because DLSS works with motion vectors, meaning the game tells DLSS in which direction things are moving. Old console games weren't built with that in mind.

>It looks like nvidia completely lost interest in vidiya
That's dumb. If that were the case they wouldn't be so far ahead of their competition.
>b-but they make more money with some other thing
A gig-corp can have more than one thing going on at the same time. It's not like the brain of a retard that can only hold one thought at a time.

Elaborate how, all the things I listed is shit that's either impossible to do by hand or prohibitively expensive, which means it's not replacing human effort or skill

>buldoze rural white people's houses to build AI "factories"
Anon, there is more than enough space in "rural areas". Tearing down houses would be very inefficient, even if you got those houses for free.
>boil the lakes away
That's not how cooling something works. You're just here to lie, aren't you?
>double your input latency
Hope you don't have an AMD card, because that way you'll have more input lag without frame-gen than Nvidia does with it on.
>>
>>735143308
and far noisier

>>735147240
you say this as if there are 0 2D arcade games with DLSS. You are wrong. DLSS has features that use motion vectors to increase resolution quality but it is not a requirement and that's why DLSS settings in games now have multiple quality options instead of a render resolution Upscale.

I think 5 is an entirely different thing, kinda like how 3 is frame-gen and 1/2/3.5/4 is upscaling.
Their naming scheme is fucked.

You think that AI farms are buying their water as a recycled resource? You need to look at what the standard is. It's literally locate near water, siphon, dump water, gasses go into the air. It's worse than the smoke stacks that cyberpunk films depicted
>>
>>735145506
I mean from the artistic perspective, not the performance perspective. Ofcourse the jeets making the aaa games are going to use any crutch for their jeetcode to seem decent.

Back in the day you had people running quad sli setups to run gta 4 at 60fps in 4k. It's just the modern version of that.

The intent is there no different than making pixel art that looks weird raw and relies on an outside layer like CRT displays to "click", the only issue would be the training material

>But the fact is that Nvidia is just a bunch of hardware people
Nvidia has a ton of softwarefags nowadays, but they are the big tech type of softwarefag from places like amazon and google, not game devs or people used to interacting with an artistic medium.

Times moved on. We have 4K 240Hz monitors now. Nobody wants to play at 60fps anymore.
>>
>>735149246
>Times moved on
That's literally his point. Now you use those ridiculous setups to do something else because you can get 4k60 without them.
>>
>>735148489
1. Faangfags are no longer the innovators. The real innovators are at OpenAI, Anthropic, etc now.
It's a new game and faang is trying to play catch up (have you heard of Amazon's AI? Ofc you haven't, it sucks)

2. Nvidia has the money to pull in any team.
But just because you get 100 people from another company doesn't mean you'll produce the same product. Nvidia's leadership is trying to play catch up just like faang.
>>
>>735147667
people buy brand new gpus for thousands of dollars so they can get 100+ ms of input latency on upscaled and generated frames?
I don't understand how it's possible for this stuff to be so shit
