>>735128258Does DLSS 5 make all blacks zesty as fuck?
>>735132119fair enough
>>735128258Poor training data and general goal misalignment. They probably got a lot of high fidelity camera shots of real people to achieve this effect, but the thing about high quality photographs is that they tend to be taken with bright studio lights, hence the model's bias towards fully illuminated faces. This in turn produces goal misalignment. In movies, TV, video games, etc the lighting tends to vary over a wide spectrum from "fully bright" to "Extremely dark" but you wouldn't take pictures of people in the dark, what would be the point if you couldn't see them? So the back half of this artistic spectrum has no representation in the data. So the machine basically doesn't know it exists, and overwrites it with what it does know.
>>735128258>comparison where after is on the left and before is on the rightFUCK YOU STOP DOING THISWhy the fuck is this so common these days? Is it some third worlder thing? Or just some shit zoomers are being retarded about? Like how they have no idea how to use pov properly

>>735128258That's what's funny about it. They're marketing it as a "lighting" improvement despite it being an AI slop filter but it makes what they claim it's for, worse. It's so blatantly false advertising, they didn't even try to pretend it was a lighting pass and the AI slop was an artifact that can be tweaked out, they're just straight up lying.

>>735128258The images they fed for data training have studio lighting. And because this is literally postprocessing, it can't understand the lighting direction, just loosely bright and dark pixel areas.
>>735137687I don't care about any of that because it's not happening to me. I just like putting big tits and asses on video game characters
>>735128258You can tell it's been trained on images and videos that are lit by that influencer halo light they use behind their phones. It's just nasty. What's so bad about using actually directional light? Maybe a character is meant to be more shadowed than lit with shitty flat lighting.

It's funny, I'm as anti-AI as they come but I think this technology could be used to achieve amazing looking games >you could have a filter that takes a cel shaded game and flattens it so the colors, poses, and expressions always look like they were designed for the player controller camera angle>this would make it look like a genuine 2D animated game that takes place in 3D and avoids all the ugly 3D stuff that only ArcSys knows how to work around and only with fixed camera angles>you could have games that look like Arcane, TMNT Mutant Mayhem, Loving Vincent, and other animated media that requires a ton of manual adjustments for every frame >you could have games that actually feel moody and atmospheric like old games with pre-rendered backgrounds by creating an always shifting atmosphere that usually gets lost when you rotate a camera and realize it's all just 3D assets >you could have 3D games that look like Amano's or Shinkawa's concept art or other art styles that rely on ethereal qualities that consistent handmade 3D doesn't work well with >you could have the ability to flip a switch and make GTA look like the painted loading screen art Really the sky is the limit if you use it as a tool to finish off a style that was impossible or too much work up until nowAnd of course literally all they use it for is making dogshit HDR grainy photorealism..
>>735143134That just needs Path Tracing, which is more accurate than this image based garbage.
>>735143134Open world games aside who do it to hide the render distance, I don't get why every studio is so obsessed with blurring everything and throwing a brown or gray filter at it. It was the same 15 years ago.
>>735143224Left looks like one of those AI-narrated boomer brainrot videos that plague social media.
>>735143242It does have a lot of potential. The main issue I see is that games would have to be made from the ground up woth dlss in mind, which won't happen for a long time because of poorfags and AMD fags. It will likely take a decade before we start seeing this stuff be used properly in most games.
>>735143242Emphasis on the "could" there.
>>735143439I wonder how much of the current performance load is due to DLSS and how much is due to the game itself, maybe in theory you could make a much simpler looking game like Half-Life 2 tier in terms of polygons, textures, lights etc, to massively save on performance and then have DLSS make something out of it to reduce the hardware requirements Right now they're applying it to games that are already very demanding
>>735143242Imagine if they open sourced the weights and modders could train art styles that you could mod into games.
>>735143605It's not a post-processing filter, it's a pre-processing one. You wouldn't be able to use this to create additional geometry, or the appearance of additional geometry.

>>735144362we already fucking had ray tracing in games. it was called baked lighting and it looked fine. it just didn't run in real time. the only reason to have real time ray tracing in games is if there's some kind of gameplay mechanic based around manipulating simulated light that would be impossible to do without it. years ago i saw a video of minecraft with raytracing that recreated a camera obscura in real time.
>>735128258They better have an option for DLSS 4 in games because 5 is just a massive downgrade that destroys any art direction a game had. Every DLSS 5 demo looks exactly the same, shits literally an anti soul filter.
