I'm tired of the dual wield rogue and either sword and board or twohander warrior cliches. What games let you either play a single blade duellist or give you build-defining advantages if you leave your off-hand empty?Examples of what I'm talking about:Dishonored - a short sword in your hand, gadget or a spell in the other.Skyrim - same as the above, sword-dagger in one hand, spell in the other.DOS 2 (but not 1) - leaving your off-hand empty lets you take the ambidextrous talent that reduces ap cost of all your scrolls, it's a niche playstyle, but very powerful.Kotor 2 (but not 1) - single saber Shien duellist is a top 3 strongest build because of the way the game scales strength and crit multipliers.
Rogue is a class with a heavily-ingrained kind of cliche and stereotype within the class fantasy. You could try some sort of multiclassing like a Fighter leaning a little into the Rogue side. This really depends on the system and game, it's hard to pinpoint an universal answer.

>>735140552I'm pretty sure NWN 1-2 let you do something about it, other D&D CRPGs would, most likely, too.In Grim Dawn you can take melee weapon in main hand and caster off-hand (book, runebone etc) - all combat will be handled by main hand weapon, off-hand appliance wlll just give you stats/skillpoints/damage conversion (and nobody prevents you to, say, take a flashbang grenade skill on your second class (or just use a skill from enchant upgrade item) to larp as spellblade extraordinare.
>>735140969I forgot about Grim Dawn caster off-hands, played it many years ago, good idea, thanks.
I remember Pathfinder had an archetype for one-handed / empty off-hand duelists, not sure if that was included in Kingmaker/WotW.>>735140760Thanks ChatGPT.
>>735141162Duelist is a advanced class iirc, meaning you have to take specific feats and levels of another class first before you can level into it but yeah it exist in WotR
>>735141162>>735141201Duelist is a prestige class but you already have a Fighter archetype that already plays very similar to it, although it's tied to using one specific type of weapon. Somethingsomething Defender IIRC.
bg3 has a fighting style and a few weapons that support a duelist type character.

>>735141648>>735141802Haven't had time to get around to BG3 yet and this is perfect, thanks.
That’s like asking why action-based RPGs don’t have dedicated crossbow classes like they do for regular bows. You’re looking for a style of combat that had very situational uses and wasn’t suited for all-purpose warfare.
>>735142059Know any games that let you play with rapier and dagger?
>>735140552Anon you are my brotherThe only games I've found thus far are the pathfinder ones and a few VR games.A lot of action RPGs are playable even if you leave your shield slot empty but that's not what you asked I suppose.Oh wait! In Astlibra your shield counts towards your weight total, which reduces your attack speed. I beat that game without using one.I'll be monitoring this thread.
>>735140552>I'm tired of the dual wield rogue and either sword and board or twohander warrior cliches.I'm not.Now what?
>>735144350now we duel to the death
I just like the idea of a class that's a guy with a knife, that isn't focused around sneaking or stealth or whatever but just likes stabbing a lot.In morrowind I make a class that specs into hand to hand + short blades, then I punch enemies until they fall down, then I stab them until they don't get up.
