Dunny because ever since I was a kid when i played hunter I imagined an open world game that was the size of the universe. I am not a super sci fi fag but I do like sci fi.
Though with this, being bethesda I have had no inclination to play it at all.

What is it about then? I never played fallout 3 and 4 but when I look at skyrim and oblivions strengths I don't see any of those in starfield, the quests aren't as good, the characters aren't as good, the world doesn't feel as lived in, you can say at times skyrim felt like there wasn't really a civil war at all but starfield felt like there never was one in the past

If you don't update, nothing. If you do then it will probably brak the mods and they will need to be updated as per usual when Bethesda pushes an update and breaks everything. See Skyrim each time they put more shit in the Creation Club.

>>
>>735147540
Skyrim civil war is like 3 on 3 battles. It does have a stronger narrative but the quests are not any better. The actual gameplay, the combat, is miles ahead in starfield. The loot cycle is better in starfield too. Skyrim has even more load times than starfield btw, every single building is behind a load screen

I will agree the loading screen complaints are way overblown though, and the people who think they want seamless planetary landing don't actually want it, but they're probably about to fucking add it and make the game even worse in the process

Not true. Fundamentally it is a fast-travel game. And in that it is locked into that hellhole, in the same way that No Man's Sky is locked into always being an inventory management game - no matter what they add to it or change. It's in the fundamental design.
>>
>>735149410
More POIs
reworked space travel where you can cruise in space and encounter random stuff while travelling
lots of extra stuff added
new DLC coming
>>
So, these updates just add more shit on top, but the fundamentally crappy core is still the same. Terrible skill system, dull story, uninteresting NPCs, procedurally generated copypasta environments on bland planets, tedious MMO loot grind, resource grind, and so on.

Starfield needs a complete 2.0. rework, not just "more Starfield".

>>
>>735148132
The gunplay is actually really good. Unfortunately the ai is retarded and the game doesnt put you up against enough enemies except for in a few quests

Anyways all free updates they just announced were very underwhelming and i had low expectations to begin with. The new dlc sounds fun though
>>
>>735149983
You obviously havent played starfield if you say this when the game has moments of brilliance dulled by emil's low IQ writing permeating through. Some quests in the game has brilliant writing.

>>
>>735150028
The combat AI is actually smart if you set it to harder difficulties, they work like FEAR. However on normal they're just standing walking targets just like how ship combat on hard is challenging but it pisses off dads who just want to relax after work so they nerfed the normal difficulty into retardedness.

>>735149841
Sort of yea. It's like the only quest line with different paths, but it's still like every nu-Bethesda title where nothing you do matters anyway. Blowing up the space police does nothing. Betraying the pirates does nothing. It's just a little more involved since you feel like you're making a decision and there's an actual visual representation of it. Rather than the old earth colony vs the niggas that beat them to it that everyone always points out. Not only did that quest imply there would be at least 3 choices (only two btw), not a single one of the choices you could make made any sense, and the entire conflict didn't matter to begin with. It was legit just "this land was promised to us 3000 years ago" versus "we are big corporate entity, we need money." I did like the whole thing with the lab quest that was connected to two different universes. But, that also felt half baked. Along with that one where you find the abandoned ship where a generic monster broke containment and you're slowly piecing it together even though it's very obvious from the start and there's nothing subtle about the build up. There's just a lot of half baked disappointing quests that try and fill in the gaps so you don't realize how empty the game truly is. And the main quest sucks cock. That's why the pirates and pigs quest line even gets some modicum of praise.

Have any of the updates addressed how incredibly anemic ship interior customization was at launch? shape and exterior they actually did an alright job of but decorating the inside of my ship was one of the things I was most looking forward too, anemic and also the resetting everything when you changed the outside at all, the having to reset all the placeable objects on ship change was probably why so much of the interiors were static and tied to the ship pieces themselves
house decoration sucked as well

No because I didn't make the claim

What I'm actually saying is that vidya game tech has regressed in many areas and
>as good as 10/15/20 years ago
Can actually be a compliment.
>it looks like this game that came out 10 years ago and is still pretty good looking
Despite running like shit on hardware then, it runs better on today's hardware than today's games that look worse, in many cases.
>but it has destruction like that old game Red Faction!
Hasn't been topped to my knowledge.
>but it has AI like a game from 20 years ago
This one isn't even technically lost technology, they just made games for a wider audience so they made the AI dumber because it would trigger normies.
etc. etc. sometimes being like old games can be a good thing

Evidence collection doesn't matter
In the end it's a ME3 style press button A or B to select the ending rather than having it result from your previous choices during the questline
As usual your companions reaction to the conclusion doesn't matter, they just love bitching

At least fallout 3/4 have the setting of fucking fallout to pull from which is at least interesting even if Bethesda has taken a steaming dump on it. Starfield is bland all around with no redeeming qualities.

I think it's funny that they're adding in a cruise mode in a game where the lore literally revolves around instantaneously jumping with warp drives. What's the player incentive to actually use cruise mode beyond just doing it? I know a lot of people are going to miss my point and get upset at the notion that you need a reason to do something in a game beyond it being more fun but just think about it from a gameplay mechanic perspective, why don't when you can just loading screen teleport everywhere? You can in fact have both fun and good game design. The update should disable the ability to fast travel between planets in a system.

I don't care enough to make the distinction. The best parts of the game had nothing to do with those two gay factions and their gay civil war, but they're the linchpin of everything. Starfield is at its best when it's just a pastiche of plots lifted from Trek or sci-fi novels. The main settinf feels like it was designed entirely to be a medium to the Nasa-punk aesthetic. I feel like I'd get an equally awful setting if I'd asked Todd to give me a 5 second elevator pitch for a game with the steam punk aesthetic.
>>
>>735151192

Guess Todd read my pasta.

But yeah Starfield is just extremely bad at being a Bethesda game.

>be in base
>sort out gear and grab what you need
>open map and pick location or quest
>head out
>2 minutes later something to fight
>2 minutes later something to explore
>2 minutes later something to interact with
>2 hours later you completed 2 quests
>explored 1 dungeon
>looted 2 new pieces of gear
>encountered a new companion
>now you are at your target location to do what you actually wanted to do
>do the thing
>you've played the game for 4 hours and return to your base
>do some maintenance, eat, sleep, head out again

Steps 5 to 11 Bethesda just kinda forgot to implement. You still open your map but the whole emergent gameplay thing is just not there. You simply fast travel directly to where you want to go and do what you wanted to do. There is nothing to explore and there is nothing to find. Empty abandoned outposts and camps.

And the game has a fucking amazing framework of systems and mechanics. The whole ship building is top notch but it lacks depth, same with the outpost building. There is simply no reason to do it because it's all cosmetic. It doesn't open anything new. Todd he said he didn't want to force the player to do something that wasn't fun. But he ended with a game that doesn't force the player to do anything at all. So unless the player finds the act of doing something in and of itself fun there is no reason to do it.

For example outpost building. If that would unlock new quest lines or special gear or abilities players would actually build them. Or if they served as checkpoints to restock and refuel on longer trips or to off load/sell valuable cargo. Just an answer to question "what does it do?" would be good.

The square shell issue didn't even make it to launch. Update your knowledge already, it's been 4 years. IIRC the explanation for the lack of Fallout gore had to do with the complexity of making various dynamic gore components for all of the models and outfits and having the system work with helmets and jetpacks.
>>
Aliens? No then I don't care
>>
>>735149841
Nah the side factions were pretty forgettable. UC/FC main plot had really good intrigue imo. I played the game on release and I still wonder why the FC won 1 major battle, didn't chase down the UC fleet and annihilate them, and accepted peace with neutral terms. Makes me think a lot of FC are controlled opposition. The whole plot with the UC spaceport getting self destructed by their own troops also seemed fishy from the outside.

Kinda sux since it looks like the let go the main writer who did most of the FC/UC (Will Shen) so doubtful there will be a DLC to open up on that more.

Yeah but they could at least do various kinds of laser burns, plasma gooifications etc. that don't require the suit to do anything than just disappear/burn away without explicit dismemberment compared to ballistic weaponry. Then they could just cope that the armor might get penetrated but hold together so you don't get instagibbs like you did with older games. Would at least make some difference, hell make it part of stealth to go for laser/plasma because it doesn't leave a body behind.

>>
>>735166446
Yeah, base game. DLCs avoided adding too many new outfits that weren't just retextures of already existing models. FO4 power armor doesn't support dismemberment either, you can blast the armor plates off but the underlying frame is indestructible.
Spacesuits and the jetpack system aside, Starfield has even more problems that devs are never going to admit to. Unlike Fallouts, Starfield features vastly different environments, including extreme temperatures and caustic atmospheres. If they were to include dismemberment and suit unsealing, they'd have to also implement different kinds of body damage based on environmental factors, like visible freezing, burns (temperature and chemical), desiccation and such.

It's going to start with the Thalmor kneeling on the player's neck before a sword singer comes in and freestyle raps the guards to death and then the Floydborn starts a rebellion to free Hammerfell from both elves and whitey.
>>
tl;dr it's a bunch of qol updates + dumb shit like collectibles, pets. kek
>>
decent try todd, but i will not waste my time pirating this steaming pill of dung again.
>>
>>735159058
it's going to be added for free in the premium edition, so i really dont fucking care
>>
>>735171446
Todd doesn't seem like the kind of guy who can retire. He's already fucking loaded and probably got a huge retention bonus when MS bought Zenimax. Maybe he'll step down as the lead everything guy, but it's hard to see him disappear. What would he do, play chess all day?
>>
>>735172321
He plays sports games. He doesn't look it, but he has the taste of a dudebro twice his size.
>>
>>735171296
Yeah but then you get names with multiple parts (and I don't mean middle names) in Europe commonly. The systems were shit to begin with.
>>
holy shit todd actually fixed it yay!

anon they added random space encounters while you drive, think running into people on the road in skyrim
>>
>>735145484
>bought the game
>attempt a playthrough 3 times
>by the end of the tutorial im done

i have 800 hours in skyrim and 500 between all the fallouts
>>
>>735174234
No Man's Sky has that, just the pool of encounters isn't impressive. It's always a merchant, pirates or rarely a derelict freighter. The big difference is that in Starfield it's possible to mod in new types of encounters.
>>
Starfield should have gone bigger on the question of Religion.

>You can't fly freely! It's bad!
>Ok, now you can fly freely
>N-no, it's still bad!

This bait is fresh. Unlike anything in Ganges.
>>
>still no ayy lmaos
Fallout had ghouls, super mutants and androids
Skyrim had a dozen different races including dragons
Starfield has what, abos?
>>
PONOUNS

>>735174980
Why does a space game need aliens?
>>
>>735174980
the alien creatures are honestly nice, samey earth like flora is whats fucked

>The game literally called Genre 2077 has good lore
Lol, no.
>>
>2.0 announced
>Takes zero notes from any of the popular mods, like the ones that makes the inventory screen not complete ass
Thanks....

>Move through solar systems with no loading (still for plantary and interstellar), can get up and walk around. Can also run into encounters or search then out in that mode
>Reworked POI system to not be *as* repetative, by changing seeding and level patterns to allow extremely rare POIs to actually spawn outside of their bonkers original conditions where no-one would actually see them.
>New POIs as well
>Starborn stuff revamped and don't need to do the space temple outside of the initial unlock anymore
>New Resource to Upgrade weapon/armor Tiers and Reroll Legendaries (on fifth reroll you can choose)
>New space station + Quests + Companions
>Database for all the shit ypu've scanned, so you can plan out material runs in-game
Paid shit as follows:
>Trackers Alliance shit gets 5 new bounties, going from horrifically overpriced to only slightly overpriced
>Terran Alliance, which you get for free if you were a shmuck and got the Premium edition.
>>
>>735149841
Vanguard questline was unironically one of the best Questlines in a BGS game to date.
Shame everything else absolutely fails to match.
>>
>>735176036
Wasn't Trackers alliance the shitty 'premium' Bethesda store quest that required real money?
>>
>>735150564
Nah, 76 still gets content to this day, so you know he ain't lying on post-game support.
>>
>>735174958
What about the shit?
>>
>>735176268
FO76 is a multiplayer GaaS title with yearly paid expansions.
>>
>>735176151
Ye. 7 bucks for one bounty.
Now it's 7 bucks for 6. Still overpriced, IMHO, but better
>>
>>735176534
The yearly expansions in 76 aren't paid, anon.
>>
>>735145484
Todd never said there is starfield 2.0. Why do you bring up that old fake rumor?
>>
>>735166247
I'm pretty sure modders are just faggots and make too high-poly meshes for dismemberment to work. This was definitely the case in Fallout 4, where I remember being annoyed by it. It's just the engine disabling it above a certain threshold (presumably because it might glitch out).
>>
>>735176670
Because it turned out they were making a 2.0 update, proving that he lied once again

man that engine sure looks beautiful
but the art direction is so fucking boring I just can't bear it
I wish them the best with their game but I'm not playing 50 hours of loading screens
>>
>>735176751
God, you all are so hopeless...
>>
See you all in /stag/ on /vg/ when this drops
