Why do purist nostalgiafags shit on this masterpiece so relentlessly?
Because nothing it does is exceptional. It just takes an excellent game, RE1 - then gives it different graphics. But it also hurts the pacing with Lisa Trevor, Crimson Heads being an utter joke, and removing tons of the alternate cutscenes you could get by exploring the mansion in different ways. Then people treat it like a replacement for the original. At least with REmake 2, it's so obviously a separate experience that it's more of a sidegrade - those players usually end up playing RE2 as well. REmake 1 fags? They pretend the original doesn't exist.
People complain when remakes suck the color out of everything but it's okay in this game because...
It's all zoomers who weren't born when it came out.Or maybe PS fans who were mad that RE was released on a Nintendo system, but those should be at least in their late 30s now.
>>735149227>give the gun back to Barry?
>>735149820maybe because it’s beautiful?
>>735150089It was beautiful on GC, but the low res backgrounds on the HD remaster are ugly as fuck. It's a shame Capcom was gay and lost all the 3D assets.
Its the other way around. REmakefags pretend the original game never existed.
all resi games the first 1/3 is kino, then it drops off bigly.
>>735149227Only the RE-Engine nufags shit on Remake 1.Proof: they keep BEGGING for yet ANOTHER remake, in OTS / FPS style, and more handholding. All the time!REmake 1 is still THE golden standard for how to make a video game remake right. It is LITERALLY what every fan of EVERY retro franchise has asked for since 2002.That being said, REmake 1 is NOT a replacement for the 1996 RE1. It's a complimentary "NG+++" for the classic RE trilogy. It changes things, a lot, in order to surprise and challenge old veterans. Some of the changes on their own, however, are objectively BAD. The pacing and overall exploration aspects, especially early on, are clearly downgraded, as you cannot gain access to either one of the two Save Rooms before you do the tacked on Arrow + Death Mask run. Similarly, the number of alternative scenes and endings is severely cut down and streamlined, reducing replay value a ton. I've also found the controls and character animations to be slow, laggy, less responsive than in RE1-3, all while guns have way less impact and effect on enemies. Now, MANY of these flaws you can overlook if you consider REmake 1 to be a next-gen "Randomizer" of RE1. Akin to Zelda's "Master Quest" on steroids.Things being confusing and illogical, less satisfying, kinda make sense when it's taken as a remix style self imposed challenge, not a standalone title / starting point.
>>735150089>posts the over-sharpened, "Looking good!" HD portYou don't even know what you're shilling, phone-faggot.
>>735151983It’s essentially the same game
>>735152995That's the same as claiming that the HD port of Silent Hill 2 and 3 are "essentially the same".The visual and gameplay downgrades are undeniable.
>>735153071It's still astounding how that even happened considering the PC ports were right there for them to use.
>>735153145HiJinx were literally a no-name mobile APP team, with no real console nor PC gaming background whatsoever. They couldn't even fathom the idea of reverse-engineering stuff from retail discs, which is what the BluePoint Studios did when making their MGS and Ico/SotC HD ports at the time. Also, their producer and project leader was THE Tomm Hulett. The biggest "walking talking SH bible" egomaniac, that is still salty to this day that he was not allowed to change the story and gameplay to his liking. I bet he had his claws on the remake as well.
>>735149227Overcorrection after 25 years of people saying it replaces the original.
>>735153663The Zelda Cycle applies to RE as well and since 9 just came out it’s only natural.
Contrarianism is a sickness that's resulted in these people alienating themselves socially, so they can only get the positive reinforcement and attention they crave here.
>>735151983Is there a mod for the PC HD Remaster to bring back the GC backgrounds? Even if they were 1:1 in content - which they're not - the HD backgrounds universally still look terrible due to the upscaling. I'd rather have blurry than upscaled.
It’s perfection

>getting into the series for the first time>play re1 on playstation>actually good fun, end up beating it twice in a row>a year later, try REmake>get bored to tears and drop it after a few hoursinsane how many people (myself included) fell for this meme for years now, this shit just sucks and you have to play it yourself to see what a slog it truly is but when looking at pretty pictures on the internet it just looks the same as the og but with "le better grafxxx" so it's easy to believe the narrative that it's an objective upgrade
>>735151983What the fuck
>>735149569>Crimson Heads being an utter jokelmao. you weren't there in 2003
What the fuck happened to the music in the remake anyway? Only 4 or so rooms out of the whole mansion have any. Most are just silent or have some cheesy thunderstorm ambiance.
>>735149227The one thing the og has over the remake is that it flows better and doesn't introduce tedious padding. Just played 1OG two weeks ago.
>>735149227It ruined literally all of the puzzle solving. The shit with the dog whistle is flat out retarded.
>>735153728The Zelda cycle is the biggest gaming lie ever told on the internet, it’s not fucking real.
>>735149227it's a reaction to years of retarded graphicsfags saying you shouldn't ever play the original because the remake replaces it even though they are different games
>>735155982What's that? You said the game isn't tedious enough.OK, we added an item that forces you to walk slowly. :^)
>>735156392Imagine ripping off Castlevania 64
>>735154809I was in fact, I just beat 0 first. Crimson Heads go down in one or two shotgun blasts. Hunters are infinitely more dangerous than them.. lol and most of the potential Crimson Head bodies just vanish by then time Hunters are in the mansion.Maybe the Re-Remake can actually make them threatening like Blisterheads.
>>735157413Oh yeah then in that case it makes sense. I only had played the games up to RE3 and crimson heads legit caught me off guard
>>735156186The Zelda cycle is 100% real you have people who unironically love Skyward Sword and RE6 at this point.
>>735149227Too much render, sorry, not my generation
>>735155982The magnum "puzzle" is dumb as fuck too. In general they were way too enamored with making you fuck around with shit in the 3D view. Like flipping the magnum crests around for no reason at all, opening first aid boxes, that stupid jigsaw puzzle box, etc.
>>735159696It’s a classic part of RE at this point and games like 2make and 9 are full of this stuff now. Love it or deal with it.
CV, the RE1 remake, and Zero are the cringe trilogy. Everything between 3 and 4 was trash that nearly killed the series.
>>735161819Found the faggot
>>735161819i like Dead Aim tho
>>735161819>Caca Shitonica>DEmake>Zero/10>Outurd 1 & 2>Gayden>Slopvivor 1 & 2>Dead Namegee... that was trully the dark age of RE4 saved the series, only for 5 to kill it again lol
>>735163143King
>>735149227Having replayed it recently and ultimately stopping, it's definitely not as good as I remember it being in '02.
Anyone who prefers the remake over the original started with the remake. It's quite literally no different than the modern remakes. Any complaint you have about the RE4 remake, for example, would apply to the RE1 remake as well.
We successfully turned people against REmake. I can't take full credit, this anon on /vr/ converted me. I've just spreading the word. More and more people are realizing we're right and REmake is slop.
Because it certainly isn't a masterpiece.
>>735164047Because you’re not a kid anymore simple as.>>735164348You and your lot are contemptible pieces of shit.
>>735164940I wasn't a kid when I played it. I was 18.
I recently played the Remake for the first time and had a great time with it. I am more familiar with RE past 4 and appreciated the resource management that came with playing RE1 remake: unlike later action horror games it does NOT pay to kill every single zombie you come across and I liked how I had to plan runs between zones, think about what to bring with me / how much space to use for healing/ammo items, planning to clear important halls next to save rooms of enemies using the gas/lighter so they're safer to traverse, stuff like that. Even on Normal playthrough felt like I was making a lot of rookie mistakes with using up too much ammo on Zombies I really didn't need to kill (and definitely should have burned up because they became a headache as faster respawn zombies later) but felt like was a really fun introduction to the survival horror roots of the franchise. I am interested in playing the original 1996 version next, what is the 'definitive' version of that one to play, the original or DC? How much is changed between the original and the Remake, I understand Remake added a lot of sections I won't see in the original which is why I'm interested because it feels like it'll also be a totally different experience.
>>735149569The original doesn't exist anymore, chud. Good riddance.
>>735149227Because it's censored slop not much different from modern remakes.
>>735163845>>735163143trying it out right now and it's kino.
>>735149569>then gives it different graphicsi know you said you played 0 first later, but this entire post just comes off as revisionist, probably because it's the opinion of someone who didn't grow up playing these games as they came out. REmake was legitimately a complete reimaging of the tone and feel of the original even if it's a fairly faithful translation of the tension. Its prerendered backgrounds were (and still are, when upscaled via mods) breathtaking. RE1 OG Spencer mansion is an abstract play space that is shaped like a house you're told is a mansion. REmake Spencer mansion is a legitimately grand, baroque-era manor that gives way to industrial structures that become the lab levels the series has made and remade in every entry. I have love in my heart for RE1 OG, but it's pure contrarianism to say there's "nothing" to REmake. It's widely lauded by fans and casuals alike because it has a strong vision for the sense of place. People end up focusing on the most trivial differences (the Barry flowchart) to shit on it.
>>735165820DC but don't touch the dualshock version
>>735165820>the original or DCDC but not the dualshock compatible version because it has the borked OST (look up the infamous basement music)
>>735149227Dorks eager to prove their AKSHULLY esoteric knowledge of the differences between the two, which it seems most can only do by shitting on the remake. Both the original and the remake have their pros and cons, both are masterpieces>>735151983That was an animated FMV room on the Gamecube which they didn't have the time or money to re-render frame by frame so they just built it in real-time for the remaster instead. There's a few other rooms which they did like that
>>735149820my favorite youtuber told me this remake is different
>>735168207i think the HD remaster fucked up the lighting on Remake, gamecube was not that dark
Why do you care?
>>735158675the remake just sucks the life out of the locationsthe original looks like something resident, close to home that the player could identify with and be immersed bythe remake just looks alien, a place that couldnt possibly exist
>>735169926this is a weird criticismIf you want to say the original looks more colorful and stands out more, I'd get itBut in terms of what looks like something I'd sooner see in real life the remake takes it
>>735169537Because masterpieces should be recognized as such.
>>735170372The original is a decent approximation of a gaudy house built in the 60s or 70s. Which is what the mansion is supposed to be. It's not an ancient, crumbling manor. It's only about 30 years old when the game takes place.
>>735170746The remake is a better approximation because you can actually see the furnishings instead of blurry blobs
>>735156392I actually ran with this and nothing happened lmao get fucked
>>735171213>she played on Very Easyoh no no no
I hope the re-remake is in first person like the game was supposed to be.
>>735165820FYI, PC has a Classic REbirth hack and there's an Ultimate Director's Cut patch for the PS1 Director's Cut Dual Shock .iso. Both of them restore the full-color, uncensored FMVs, while the PS1 patch restores the original version's OST, adds a recreation of Saturn battle mode + a fanmade take on Arrange mode, plus another "maze" mode on top of it. btw, speaking of Classic REbirth, it gets talked up a lot, but is there really much utility for it if you get the GOG release? Seems like the main features are just updating the game to function as it should on a modern machine and uncensoring it, both of which the GOG release does. I understand just downloading the MediaKite version and modding it as the easy and free solution, but if you don't care about blowing 5-10 bucks, does it really matter?
>>735149227I'll tell you the real reason: popular consensus among dumbshit video game journalists and those who would mistakenly believe their word determined a game's repute was that this game replaces the original, when it doesn't. A lot of "the REmake is secretly SHIT" sentiment is merely just the hyperbole that comes from pushing back vehemently against such a bullshit narrative. The guy who says they're both masterpieces and should both be played is right, and the guy playing the other after he played one of them has the right idea.
>>735150549Content wise, REmake is great. Graphically, it's shit.
>>735149227Because it's no masterpiece, and inferior to the original.
>>735166898>>735167031>>735175373Thanks for all the info, if there's a patch that removes the DualShock's flaws with the bad OST I think I'll go for the Ultimate Director's Cut patch for the ISO then to get the full experience, looking forward to it
>>735149227Because said "purists" only know of the 2015 remaster and weren't around for 2002.
