I have been for 2 years. and for the most part, it does just work. of course it helps that I almost never play multiplayerslop. I've never wanted to play a game that doesn't work because of anticheat. I have had a couple demos not work, but it's been really rare, like 1% of the demos that I've tried.

If you stay on winblows spyware just because of a few game devs you are sheep.

Even in the context of only multiplayer anticheat games, if you look at the top 50 multiplayer played on steam, the vast majority of them work. I counted 10 or 11 just on a quick count the problem ones mainly being PUBG, Rust, Apex Legands, GTA Five M, Delta Force and RS6 but I dont play any of those.

All the cope posting that winfags have been doing for years is just bullshit.

Why do you need to buy a USB drive to install it?
Just get a USB drive, download the ISO for the distro of your choice, and then make that USB drive a bootable install with an app like balenaEtcher that does it all for you?
>>
Im still confused what the problem with windows 11 is. Ive never had problems, is it because im 40 and been using windows all my life?
>>
>>735154913
yes but you still have to have the same dependencies as windows. Steam does the installation everything for you if somethings missing it detects it.

For example binding of issac rebirth wont launch if it doesnt have openal library. If you added a pirated game like binding of issac you'd have to use winetricks GUI to add it to the default prefix heroic games launchers uses, and then it would run with proton.
>>
>>735154810
With some updates it fixes itself but after couple of months it comes back.
Maybe if the process would close itself it would recover but it just hangs. I can still open terminal and write commands without seeing anything on the screen to restart it.

>>

>>
>>735151196
I do on my laptop, I'll move my desktop over once W10 starts being a pain to use.
>>
>>735156109
When I had ROCm crashing everything it dropped plenty into the kernel ringbuffer (dmesg) every time, so you can check that if you get crashes. Not that it's going to be particularly helpful, it will at least pinpoint you to the driver. If it's involved.
>>
>>735156343
Then you'll have to search elsewhere for specific ways to use it. File replacement and .dll injection work just fine for like 99% of games.
If you're onto some esoteric 400gb skyrim modlist that needs to be loaded in a certain order in a specific way then I have no idea

if you find using winetricks gui hard than you got bigger problems. It actually is easier. You have to scour the web for redistributables or a dll if a game doesnt work on windows.

On linux you just scroll down for the list of dlls and .exe redistributables, click the stuff you want, press install.

Also linux is more secure because you can use flatpaks so even if a game did have malware, It would have to break out of the flatpak sandbox first, and after that it would have to gain root access with an exploit on your linux system, if even it was designed to be linux malware in the first place.

Windows rootkits and malware does nothing if its made for windows.
>>
>>735157762
It's my understanding that games don't come in flatpaks. Unless you mean running it in Bottles?
>>
I am gaming on Linux, though. In fact, I have been doing so since 2019.
>>
>>735155106
Also 40 here and used Windows my entire life:
Windows 11 now requires online account - bypassing it is too much of a hassle even though it is possible. It also takes too much effort to remove useless garbage from it (without relying on scripts you get on the Internet) and disable things like updates so it doesn't fuck with your usage of the computer. On Linux I get to choose what garbage I install myself, just like I could in Windows 95, without having to resort to esoteric tools like gpedit or regedit.
It doesn't help that on my Windows 11 laptop I have performance issues and crashes with software that works perfectly on both my Arch machines, one of which is over 10 years old. I bet if I wasn't lazy and installed some Linux on it, it would start working perfectly.

Windows is also a pain in the arse to troubleshoot. You have useless logs and need additional debugging tools to get any meaningful information. Just having access to useful logs is a luxury that constitutes the primary reason I'm never ever going to use Windows again. Tired of my computer being turned into a mystery box I don't even own.

>>735157762
>Windows rootkits and malware does nothing if its made for windows.
It can do something. If, for example, your home folder is available in a wine prefix (often it is) ransomware can encrypt all your shit.

the biggest problem linuxfags face when it comes to getting normalfags to migrate is they're too busy huffing their own farts about which distro is the best to just tell a normal person that's tired of microsoft's bullshit to use mint. is it the best/most robust/lightest/etc. distro? No, but it's good enough, and easy enough, and that's all 99% of consumers want.
honestly, I was trying to look up new headphones yesterday and this really feels like the exact same scenario as dealing with audiophiles. nobody has any sense to tell a layman what the "good enough" option is, they assume someone wanting the slightest upgrade from "whatever they had at the corner store" is ready to drop $600 on sennheisers or whatever.
>>
>>735157762
> it would have to gain root access with an exploit on your linux system
>Loonix: please insert root password to run the web browser
Linux is so safe and secure, it never LITERALLY asks you to give root password for no reason whatsoever.
>>
>>735157961
I mean pirated games will run on flatpak heroic launcher.

Its like steam it has very good automatic artwork fetching by name of titles you add. You can test it just add a game and put a name it fetches nice artwork. it also has first class linux and proton support, as well as the default prefix being optimized for gaming. So its just like steam

If a game doesnt work thats pirated on linux with heroic, 9/10 times its usually very obscure or most likely someone downloaded an online game and many of those pirated games need steam running in the background to work.
>>
>>735157665
manjaro has no redeeming qualities now, don't fucking use it

no it doesnt lmao
im pretty sure im on a watch list and they tampered with it cuz all my pcs dont work
but i put linux mint on my gtx 1070 pc and i had to spend 3 weeks trying to find out why every game but hd runescape crashed
i got it sort of working as in like
half life 2 and fallout nv booted
but it freezes at the desktop constantly
i dunno if linux mint is right for that pc but fuck
linux is definitely not plug and play unless you get like
a valve machine or put a gaming focused out of the box working linux on some lenovo desktop

i think pc gaming is just over im not going to buy new hardware
just going to buy used 1060 1070 1080 ti etc
and throw it in office pcs
theyll probably drag me off for not upgrading but i refuse to give the kikes at nvidia money

I literally tried linux mint cinnamon and when I tried to play space marine 2 which is "supposed to work" on the steam linux compatability website, but I was getting 5 fps, I tried changing the nvidia driver to several different versions recommended by mint, didn't help, tried different proton versions, didn't help changed pre shader caching and none of it worked. I might try another distro like cachyOS but i hate these lying kikes that say that you need to just install linux and it will just "work".

Linux mint is the only real polished windows 10/11 alternative.

ZorinOS exists and its nice, but I wouldnt say its app store or utilities is on the same level of polish as mints software store, driver manager and updater. Mint works even with nvidia and it works well.

Mint truly is a just competitor to windows. My only complain with mint is that theres not enough theming to choose from and the lack of darker more windows 10 alternatives like an OLED theme or something similar to windows 10. The themes are pretty lackluster but the desktop works great and the utilities and polish is top notch.
>>
>>735158925
It's far more likely to "just work" on CachyOS than Mint. Not that I'd ever use that term to describe gaming experience on PC in general, let alone Linux specifically.
>>
>>735158925
Something with your hardware then because nvidia should work as this video shows.. You might have to RMA it or maybe sell it if it works on windows. It could be anything could be the clocking for that specific card or brand. You could always sell it on ebay for an AMD.

Its not linux's fault. Its the devs of rust, apex, cod, etc that are unwilling to accept the penguin future.
And as I said, out of the top 50 games on steams most played multiplayer, only around 12 are unplayable, by choice by the developers.

Their justification is that linux users cheat at a higher rate which is false and untrue.
