I bought this exact version of RE1(Yes, dualshock version, since I don't like the d-pad)What am I in for? I never played a resident game in my entire life. Just finished the opening and am already playing.
keep playing it until you finish it
Real scary video game, unless you are a gore enjoyer
>>735158823tank controls with an analog are actually worse though
>>735158823Ear rapehttps://youtu.be/iJYvCHm3Ov4?si=wxCxUJ0dh5P2uJRC
>(Yes, dualshock version, since I don't like the d-pad)That won't really make a difference. It still has tank controls.
>>735158823You're in for:>forgetting which keys unlock which doors>clowns farting in the basement>getting raped by hunters>hilariously bad voice acting>letting dogs into the mansion foyer by trying the front doorIt's a lot of brainless fun, but you need to be patient. And be fucking careful with the game disc, anon. Old PS1 black discs can develop brittleness as they age.
>>735158823this is the version with the shitty music right?
>>735159168>>735159467W-what are you talking about. Resident Evil is famous for having great music.
>>735158886this. you didn't beat the game unless you do that.
I just started a new playthrough and I forgot how short the game is. I'm already at the bee house and I barely feel like I started
>>735159419>letting dogs into the mansion foyer by trying the front doorIsn't it just a small extra cutscene? Are you trying to troll me?
>>735159467yeah, that's the one
>>735158823not funnydidnt laugh
>>735159716It's an extra (funny) cutscene, but I know there's a version of RE1 where that can happen. Maybe it's just a thing in the RE1 remake.
>>735158823>What am I in for?The worst version of the best RE game.Raped OST, that affects the atmosphere negatively, and no benefits it markets, such as uncensored FMVs. And D-Pad is a must for tank controls. Not a joke, not a meme. Analog stick only fags are the ones making a big fuzz about the 3D control scheme. It's a nice thing to have at least some sort of physical copy, but you should just emulate the "True Director's Cut" version, that has uncensored color FMVs, OG OST, and other benefits:https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5837/Other than that, pic related.
>>735159808Yeah, that's a REmake only feature.
>>735160369>Classic RE>Scarce ammoOnly in the first 10 minutes or so.
>basement ost starts playing
>>735160487>I haven't played the game blind in 30 years - the postYou people seriously overestimate the average first time player's fear and suffering in survival horror classics. The fear of running out of one of the three main supplies (Ammo, Healing, Saves) is very real in all 3 OG RE-games when you're unfamiliar with the campaign's progression.
>>735158823You fucked up by opting for shite music just so you could have inferior controlsD-pad is always where it's at for classic RE
>>735160487I just replayed all the OG games a few weeks back and ammo is mostly scarce in RE1, especially heavier ammo.RE2 is bountiful, but only if you're mashing Inspect/Action on all of the backgrounds to find the 'hidden' ammo lying around. And RE3 is a retarded shooting gallery of a game
>>735160737>And RE3 is a retarded shooting gallery of a gameOnly if you play on "Easy", which was made for toddlers to beat the game."Hard" is essentially RE3's "normal" mode; pistol and knife only start, and heavy focus on ammo crafting. It's survival horror at its finest.
>play the game for the first time>be very conservative about using guns, not wasting ammo because people are saying that's a survival horror game>end up with an arsenal that can massacre an entire city worth of ammoI was misled...also, you spend more time solving puzzles/unlocking door than actual deal with enemies.RE 2 is similar and I'm sure 3 is too, still gonna try to play through the entire series except remakes and gonna play Requiem when it's cheap like Village.
>>735160918>I was misledNo, you were not.If you waste your ammo like a Rambo, you will have hard time later on.>also, you spend more time solving puzzles/unlocking door than actual deal with enemies. That is literally the main focus of survival horror genre, my friend. Just goes to show how unfamiliar GenZ is with the OG games, if they expected these games to be just simple "zombie shooters", and not proper adventure games.
>>735160918You are supposed to save your ammo in the first half of the game retard. It only becomes important much later.
>>735161131>survival horror genreI'm a boomer though and imho Thief is better at you trying to survive and is actually spooky to boot.
>>735161235>You are supposed to save your ammo in the first half of the game retard. But I did and was left with a huge amount of grenade launcher ammo and had even magnum ammo left.
>>735161432Once you know how to confidently play the game, it becomes significantly easier. Playing it your first time, especially as a kid when it came out in the late 90s, is a much more harrowing experience.
>>735159565Not that version lol
>>735161279Thief is a stealth game. A totally different genre. And "muh scariness" is not part of this discussion. >>735161432Congraz! You played smartly, and thus was left with surplus of loot. What is the problem exactly? You want the game to be similar to the modern shit, where you barely get any ammo, and the bosses are hard-coded to die when you fire your last round ?
>>735161520>with surplus of loot. What is the problem exactly?>You want the game to be similar to the modern shit, where you barely get any ammo, and the bosses are hard-coded to die when you fire your last round ?Something like the matches mechanic from The Evil Within, you get a lot of ammo but enemies don't die until you set them aflame, though the majority of TEW is action.
>>735162168>Something like the matches mechanic from The Evil WithinOf course you zoomer homos would praise that absolutely pathetic piece of shit and hate classic RE. I should've known.
>>735162232Can you even read, you retard?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrKKcon9NK4
The difficulty of classic RE primarily comes from the fact your character takes 20 real life years to turn and how you need process rapidly shifting camera angles under duress. It's shit, the whole series is shit.
>>735162882The turning difficulty only becomes a problem in RE2 and then only during certain boss fights. Otherwise, unless you're running through the whole game in your first run like an idiot, it's not a problem.>the whole series is shitI'm sorry you got filtered this badly by tank controls.
>>735162882I played the pc version with the mod to be able to turn quickly.
>>735162959>I'm sorry you got filtered this badly by tank controls. No, I got filtered by the fixed camera angles. Tank or 360, it doesn't matter, the fixed camera angles while looking pretty are fucking horrendous for a game that punishes you heavily for mismanaging resources.>Oh fuck the camera angle changed, I need to read the screen, figure out what direction I'm coming from, what direction I'm facing, what is interactable, and what are the exits while a zombie is coming from the previous screen right behind me>Whoops I got hit because I couldn't process it in time, now I'm behind on resources The difficulty doesn't come from the gameplay, it comes from Capcom shooting the player in the foot from the get-go. Once you know what you are doing you can blow through the game in an hour, that's textbook artificial difficulty.
>>735163435>it's textbook artificial difficultyThere is maybe two times in the entire game where you need to react quickly to what's happening, and I think both of those are not getting crushed by boulders in the cave part after the 2nd mansion visit.Otherwise, you have the first hour at least to get used to camera angle switching and how to handle it with slow ass zombies as the only enemy.I got it after the first zombie encounter, and I was barely in my teens when I played it back in the late 90s.I guess what I'm saying is git gud, anon.
>>735158823so much nostalgia for those cases, we lost so much soul moving on to plastic cases
>>735158823These RE threads are some nigger with chatgpt constantly spamming his "first" playthroughhe either says the game is too stressful or "wut do I expect!?!?"fucking autistic faggot
The soundtrack is fine bar one or two tracks. Some are better than the originals. A lot of people out themselves as secondaries who never played it and just parrot reddit memes about le clowns farting lmao xD.
>>735159565>>735158823Dual Shock version got a soundtrack from a "legendary blind music writer" who admitted in 2014 he actually was faking it the entire time and someone else ghostwrote his shit. Some of the music is alright, occasionally better, but you do get some wet fars and schizo noises too. It's not the soundtrack RE1 is actually known for.
>>735163435Most of the time you can hear enemies before you even start moving. Don't try to hold the run button to rush into literally everything. Think about your positioning, and if you're in anything past the initial long-box release, use auto-aim to ensure that there's nothing immediately off camera. These are basics I realized on my first playthrough, anon, you sound like you're just rushing into danger without analyzing a situation and then blaming it on the game.
>>735159565You bought the wrong version.
>>735158823How much is re1 these days? I bought the first directors cut for 20 bucks right before the coof hit
>>735169663There's the OG RE collection bundle on GOG that's $20, I think. It goes on sale all the time, too. Just be warned I think the versions in it are all inferior to the SourceNext versions you can find elsewhere online.
>>735160487I remember the games being a lot harder when I was a kid, I'd miss shots frequently and couldn't knife anything down without getting wrecked. As an adult they were substantially easier.
>>735163435>Oh fuck the camera angle changed, I need to read the screen, figure out what direction I'm coming from, what direction I'm facing, what is interactable, and what are the exits while a zombie is coming from the previous screen right behind meThis should take you under a second, if you hear shit off screen then bait it out instead of running in blindly.>Once you know what you are doing you can blow through the game in an hour, that's textbook artificial difficulty. What? That's most games in existence.
>>735169786>Just be warned I think the versions in it are all inferior to the SourceNext versions you can find elsewhere online. You can swap region on the GOG installs to Japanese, netting you the Mediakite/Sourcenext ports. Then you can patch those with Classic Rebirth and you've got near-definitive besides minor quirks here or there that even CR can't totally undo.
>>735169786Or you can just pirate it, instead of giving Crapcum money.
The score is mostly fine, and is a banger with some great tracks like Rebecca's theme:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSGhcDM_TlU&list=PLbcpuT0TP-1En4HNWGwWnbK0b9l8rU1uT&index=7Save theme:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JTbx_DraHA&list=PLbcpuT0TP-1En4HNWGwWnbK0b9l8rU1uT&index=18
>>735168629>The soundtrack is fine bar one or two tracks. Some are better than the originals. A lot of people out themselves as secondaries who never played it and just parrot reddit memes about le clowns farting lmao xD.I started with Re2 then afterwards bought RE1. I didn't know that the Dual Shock version had a new score for years, so I just thought that was what RE sounded like. yes, I remember the basement music being weird. Then I played Re4 and heard people talk about how the save theme was a remix of the RE1 save theme. I didn't understand, since it didn't sound like the one I heard. Then I found out on /v/ of all places years and years later: Dual shock version got a new score. To me this is like finding out each version of mario 64 is personalized, and my experience didn't line up with everyone else.
>>735161485>Playing it your first time, especially as a kid when it came out in the late 90s, is a much more harrowing experience.my older brother's friend just gave him a bunch of ps1 games for some reason but he barely touched them. so, i would have been 8/9 playing silent hill/re1/re2. silent hill spooked me out too much. i kept getting scared playing re1 and kept restarting to change character (the dogs scared the shit out of me). i dragged myself close to the end of re2 somehow (the lickers also scared the shit out of me). i remember i was in critical hp in the lab somewhere with no heals.. and i found the magnum parts but i had no magnum so i thought my save was doomed and quit
>>735163435After reading this you might have to just have to give up and play something else, if you can't figure out where you are, locate an exits, figure out how to deal with camara angles shifting slightly, I mean what can you do, you even have auto aim on normal mode if I remember correctly. This isn't even a dig , I just feel bad
>>735170480They use a remix of Rebecca's theme from the Dual Shock version as the save room theme in 0.
>>735169786It was just on sale for 5 bucks a pop until about a week ago. I'd wait for it to mark down again desu, even if its list price is still pretty low.
Ultimate Director's Cut vs. Classic REbirth?
>>735158823>analog
>>735159565That is THE version you're not supposed to play
>>735158823>What am I in for?Tank controls.Wandering around lost.Thinking this is a highly dangerous location where you could be attacked anywhere and where everything can easily murder you.Shoving all of your inventory into storage and then needing to return after finding the door that the key goes to.Always feeling like you're short on ammo, herbs, and typewriter ribbons.>after 20 hours of playingThis is easy as piss.Know the easy way to kill zombies.Know the easy way to kill hunters.Just run by most enemies because you don't consider them threatening anymore.Killing zombies with just the knife because why waste the ammo?Unlock the infinite rocket launcher and do a run where you exclusively use that for the entire run. (yes, inside small rooms as well)
>>735178009I like how in the remake, the infinite rocket launcher doesn't incinerate zombies. So there's like a fraction of a millisecond where you hear their accelerated plodding when you return someplace and feel an inkling of panic as a gut response but then you're like "oh wait" and just bazooka them too. Very satisfying if you found them threatening on a first run.
