Is this what passes for a 4x space strategy game nowadays?? What is this wank...
>>

The only time I've seen anyone talk about this game is that one anon posting the cat race, what's wrong with it

space rts peaked with homeworld 2 and vanilla stellaris and hasn't improved since then
>>
Stellaris is all you need.
4x perfection
>>
>>735162562

it would be perfect if it paused the game time clock and gave us a homeworld completely three dimensional combat game every time a battle happened, anon, but instead we get the zerg 2d system. If you haven't played homeworld 1 or 2 you should check them out.

It perfected how to make the worst 4x game on the market, impressive considering Paradox previous attempts were also competing

Didn't stellaris have different drives so that you could go from planet to planet, instead of choke points in space, they also had warp jump stuff i th8ink.
>>
>>735164006
On release, removed years ago because Paradox realized it's too much fun, they're too retarded to balance it (like everything else in the game) and that giving cool mechanics for free sets a bad precedent for future DLC earnings

What's wrong with the second one?

Dunno, I never tried this one
>>
>>735164106
Lost interest after they did that.

I really wanted to like Homeworld and Deserts of Kharak.
I keep getting stressed because of resources and unit losses, since you carry them over to the next mission.

Like in Kharak the enemy constantly sends waves of attacks from multiple directions, chipping away your units and I keep worrying if I'll have enough carryover for the next map.
The series is by far the most stressful and anti-comfy of all the RTSes I've played.

>>735164106
did stellaris really backrack a feature that Sword Of The Stars had since literally 2006? Lmao
>>
>>735165534
I played Kharak recently and I came to realize: It just has Unimaginably Dogshit UI and controls. Thats literally it. Thats what makes it unfun.
>>
>>735166324
Yeah they did, now we have space lanes, and we have to ride the space lane motorway, and if we want to invade a system, we always arrive where the space lane stops, so basically a close combat fleet just sits there and we come to them, i mean, how fucking retarded is that? Chokepoints in space i mean. Unless it's changed, but last time i played that was the case.
>>
Only thing remotely 4x I've played was spores space stage way back like 16 years ago. It was sorta fun to have my little ship and slowly build my empire. Most space games I've seen go either more on the ship side or more on the management side and few straddle both

>what's wrong with it
Never goes on sale so I can't buy my friends it to play for one session before they don't care anymore
AI is physically incapable of working with humans, and even other AI, to take down players winning too hard (standard problem in every video game ever)
One of the basegame factions (Meklar) is just too strong

Oh and there aren't enough bells and whistles to make gamers think the game is deeper than it is, i.e. strategy gamers want to be pseuds who don't know what's going on and play to a meta, see: Civ V/VI, EU4/5, HOI4, Stellaris, Endless Space 2, League, Dota, Deadlock
You feel smart and a real strategist if you're juggling X+1 amount of resources even if you don't know what's going on and you're not actually playing the game but instead following a guide that points out the game has a gameable feedback loop
Or maybe all those games and their popularity is all fake advertising, subliminal addiction triggers and peer pressure, that MOO never had

>open up stellaris
>every resource is generic
>every species is just a portrait, and not a good one either
>everything feels like an off brand variant of [popular sci-fi], bootlegged so badly it's just boring
>the sound design sucks
>the voices suck
>the company even threw a shitfit when no-one liked one of the DLC voices
>everywhere feels sterile, everything feels dead
>almost every planet is scientifically accurate to being completely uninhabitable and dead

>buy one DLC
>immense popup spam
>the game is now a choose-your-own-adventure novel

>play with friends
>game lags to shit (everyone refuses to play on anything less than the largest galaxy)
>never interact with any friend, any time you try they put up walls (everyone prefers to subjugate the AI as if playing single player)
>everyone's using meta strategies racing to... nowhere, because no-one interacts with anyone else
>game desyncs to shit
>game crashes to shit
>"Hey let's use this modpack!" (unbalanced edgelord weebshit that crashes)
>two separate players say "Bored now!" and unleash literal game ending crises at the same time
Swedes are the most soulless automatons to exist and have been vibe coding since before AI.
Is it the desolate weather up there that makes them hate fun, art and inspiration?
>>
>>735165534

it definitely promotes saving at the beginning of every mission to min/max but it's an old game you have to be a little forgiving

>stellaris
nigger, show me a feature or mechanic that hasn't been turned to shit by an update and/or DLC over the past 10 years
>>
>>735161749
No this is. It also will be 30 years old in November. Yeah this genre is fucking cursed.
>>
>>735168913
Stellaris needs to be more like CK2 where it follows the personal story of your rulers
>>
>>735168913
Swedes have literally never spiritually recovered after the Great Northern War

Keep an eye out for these.
