I'd say he safely fits in his own category.
Typically the level design of the series doesn't lean to the more maze like structure of Sonic Games where part of the fun is finding the best path through a stage
The Looney Tunes inspired world is still fairly unique as game locales go
Maybe he's a bit on the dumber side, but he's more or less an every man, keep in mind the guy he's typically fucking around with is a neurogeneticist.
