Rationally explain how when Valve does it, it's okay without sounding like a biased drone or shill
*cough*
>>735162985It's not okay when anyone does it. They are clearly taking advantage of some people's gambling addiction. However, as you'll learn when you're older, that you really can't help people's addictions unless they want to be helped, and addiction is unfortunately part of the human experience. You can't stop it. That being said, you might as well profit from it, and for that I can't truly fault Valve for doing what they did. What I CAN fault them for, is influencing, or at least maintaining, the trend of lootboxes, which unfortunately seems to be here to stay. Now, here's the rational explanation. Valve, does not directly tell players, what items are worth. As far as anyone is concerned, the items are worth what you paid for them, which is 3 bucks or whatever it is. They heavily imply that there is a worth by attributing rarity to items, but that worth is ultimately decided by the players. Personally, I don't give a good god damn what the value of a factory new blue gem karambit is, because I think the skin is worthless, but since someone else has decided that it is valuable, thus it is valuable, and thus fools will gamble away their money to obtain it.
>>735162985The vast majority of the gambling problem in Valve games (particularly CS and DotA) is from grey-market gambling sites that Valve has never condoned. The lootboxes are a minor problem and, frankly, are less predatory than the battlepass FOMO shit the rest of the industry has adopted in their place.
>>735163889Well, this is at least what they want you to believe. People are shit so why not abuse them? In reality people like Gabe are the ones poisoning the society in the first place so they can later exploit and get rich from it. Just like how warfare corporations want some fake wars to increase their profits and stocks. Don't be naive and fall for serpent's lies as it sucks your loved ones dry.
>>735164404yeah if only counter strike didn't have loot boxes then all the casinos would close down and murder would be eradicated
>>735164404People were gambling back in the caveman days, you can't change human nature
>>735162985They're based & awesome, while everyone else is gay & retarded - it's that simple.
>>735164521>>735164523
>>735162985Valve hires excellent PR people. They are experts at manufacturing consent. All the other explanations are the kind of cope you’d hear from drug addicts defending the honor of their drug dealer.
>>735164404You can't control people to that degree, and people who want to gamble, people who will always exist, will do so by any means necessary. It's YOU who is naive for thinking anybody can control that. Can Valve not participate for some moral reason? Sure. Should they? I suppose. Will they? No, and you're a fool for thinking they will ever stop. This is how it works, how it has always worked, and will continue to work until you're dead. The best you can do is to keep yourself contained, and to create or be a part of a community of like minded individuals.
>>735163889BVASEDVALUE IS SUBJECTIVE UNLESS IT IS FOOD AND SHELTERTHE ONLY TRUTH IS GOD, WHO MADE FIRE AND STEEL AND BLOOD
>>735162985because they've yet to be assholes so gamers like them therefore its ok. its obviously gambling and its more hardcore then buying card packs or fifa sports surprise pack because its much easier to liquidate into cash.

>>735168467They literally popularized lootboxes, valve is grandfather of pc gaming gambling.
>>735170941Is it gambling if there is a hard %chance to get what you want? In gambling you have no guarantee of success no matter how much you play
>>735171149Did valve's astroturf bot break? These two sentences make no sense.
