The problem is the company and moderation. at large, the greater issue is communication in games becoming corporatized and sterile. there is no one single issue with the industry, but a scatter plot of a bunch of different things being enshitified. That depends. Some discord servers has thousands of members yet you see the same dozen people in vc playing games. Discord servers with a couple hundred members or less are certainly too small to not form a tight community where everyone knows each other.

reddit replaced forums with a shittier, corporate run site, discord did the same for the remaining forums that never moved to reddit as well as teamspeak and IRC.

the problem is both the centralized servers and moderation AND who is in control of it. in both cases the admins are the worst kind of people. and that there's no real populated alternative anymore.

What you need to understand is that most of /v/, and indeed 4chan in general, is autistic.
That means when they are presented with a space that claims 'people who follow the rules will be fine, people who break the rules will be punished, their expectation is that that is accurate.
