PS2 games look like THAT?
Bottom left is beautiful. I have never seen this game before
>>735179965turned based.... why are the most beautifl games always the most shit to play
>>735179965Silmeria is very pretty.
>>735179856raise the internal resolution and post sixth generation games look great. It's what happens when people actually care about art direction
>>735180640touching any of the options in pcsx2 ruins it and makes the imperfections more obvious. it is better to just play with a crt filter. even better, play on an actual ps2 with an actual crt tv.
I just don't know how they made PlayStation 2 games.
>>735179856Shame it's a mess to emulate it. Certain locations are so buggy. Also, how the fuck you beat the boss in the volcano area?
>>735179856SOULGAS!
>>735180826I miss games like this manmost animations are so fucking lame these dayseven ps1 games impress me more than modern shit sometimes
>>735179856I never understood the praise for this game but maybe it's because I never get past the intro city since it's boring. Radiata Stories was way better
>>735180785
>>735180826The Emotion Engine was very very good at drawing geometry relative to how fast the chip was so you could have very high (for the time) polygon models in games. Its weakness was not much VRAM so the textures are low res.
Some PS2 games are photorealistichttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX2jG6G8FSw>>735180826In-house engine made by white people. No jeets, no Unreal Engine no fags.
Raytracing could never
>>735180826>2004damn, i thought this would be a late 2007 era ps2 game like the op. looks crazy
>>735181127like i said, with a crt or crt filter. default settings don't look good by default but at least they are consistent. right looks sharper but everything is incredibly inconsistent. this gets worse when you start having high definition texture packs which clash with the meshes.
>>735180929Did a full playthrough (+ seraphic gate) last year at 4k inernal resolution. The only bug the game had was in a couple of cutscenes where the dof was too intense. Other than that, it was perfect, even the infamous forest level, everything rendered perfecly without glitches.
back when games took 2-3 years to come out instead of 6 or 7...take me back
>>735181968AC7's greatest graphical contribution to the series wasn't the better textures on the planes or more detailed terrain it was how many shades of blue, grey and orange the sky could be.
>>735180640when i do this i sometimes get problems like picrel. is there a way to raise internal resolution without having this problem?
>>735179856>PS2 games looked like thatTop left is a pre-rendered cutscene and bottom right uses models that are massive compared to everything else in the game for that specific scene. When you actually zoom in on the models and textures in the other pics you will realize they aren't actually all that detailed.Similar trick can be seen in the Yakuza games where cutscene models are completely different than gameplay models such as the famous ring in the beginning that is made gigantic so that it can have an engraving on it.
>>735180785Agreed. It's like your mind has room to add better detail than texture packs and graphic hacks if you give it the space. When you blow the resolution up or otherwise make the image "clearer" all the imperfections become obvious and it's harder to suspend disbelief. A CRT filter or a bit of blur makes the faraway foliage in that Transformers webm look fantastic when in an emulator with all the PC-tard graphics options turned "up" they'd look like paper cutouts turning to face the camera or whatever.
>>735179856lmaoing at the bottom right pic being used to showcase ps2 visualsalso what are these games
>>735183547>cutscene models are completely different than gameplay modelsStill a thing today. Most obvious recent example I can think of is DMC5.
>>735179856I don't miss the age of bloom at all.
>>735183897Do they actually swap models? In most cases it looked like it was just the lighting, we have cutscene lighting nowadays. See TW3, MGSV, DMC5, etc
>>735183934It looks great.
>>735183981yes. though they are not nearly as noticeable than on the ps2
>>735184524I don't believe youactually I know you're wrong because of mods
>>735180826I remember having a Gamestop DVD showing all the hidden items.
Too bad the game itself was nowhere near as good as the first
