The lost MMOs of yesteryear.
>>
>supposedly canon to the Matrix universe
>original adverts had "direct ongoing input from the Wachowski Brothers" as a feature before they removed that
Between this and all the extra scenes they filmed for Enter the Matrix as an official tie in to the second film, they really thought this whole franchise was the hottest shit, huh

Anything that can be milked will be milked.
>>
>>735519474
The first Matrix was fucking huge in the cultural zeitgeist. It could have been a big franchise is the Wachoskis didn't become gigacoomers and let their dominatrix turn their Gnostic allegory into a conventional Christianity allegory.

City of Heroes
OR IS IT?
>>
>>735519474
Yes, it was a huge success. How old are you?
>>
>>735520160
Name one other film franchise that made a videogame canon. That expected people to care so much about the story they filmed 40 minutes of extra scenes and story for a video game.

I liked the first movie but I feel like they jumped the shark with the second one
>>
there's a private server that is keeping the MMO alive.

not a member of the Matrix discord? Shame

The thing, star wars
>>
>>735520559
Is it ran by trannies or spergs?
>>
>>735520139
No, it is. Homecoming is genuinely the worst thing ever and I truly wish the game stayed dead. I also wish NCSoft had sued homecoming.
>>
>>735518728
I had my egg cracked playing TMO circa 2006
>>
>>735520559
>secret MMO server
If you are hiding your private server then it ain't an MMO. It's you and 20 friends on your locally hosted 24/7 2fort server
>>
>>735521283
>genuinely the worst thing ever
>ummm actually it is le worstest evaar

I have no idea what you are trying to communicate and I doubt it would be worth my time attempting to figure it out. Filtered.

m8 it's full of trannies and has gay pride events and one of the original guys working on the server was booted for being anti-tranny. The mods also spent time protecting a trannies supergroup after xhe caused mass drama.
>>
is gunz: the duel still playable at all?
>>
>>735521675
holy shit that's a nostalgia blast
>>
>>735521403
I think you're a moron who communicates entirely in hysterical hyperbole
>>
>>735521601
never played matrix online but
>Leveling and combat are not implemented yet.
what's the point then? is there something more to it in that game or is it just for hanging out?
>>
>>735522437
it's not going to match the original experience sadly.

i don't think any gamer could replicate The Matrix Online, to the extent that the Brothers (Sisters?) made Morpheus' death in this game canon as of Matrix 4.

They also had to factor in the possibility some random player in The Matrix becomes "The One", which they essentially forced by giving all players dev powers in the game's final hour.
>>
>>735519474
Nigga the Matrix is still influencing modern media 26 years later, what the fuck do you think?
>>
>>735520000
2 and 3 are good movies.
>>
>>735519474
It was. People actually waited for this secondary content even if it turned out to be filler shit.

Like 90% of the reason it even got popular was the hot red-head, and they killed their game completely by making the in-game version of her look nothing like she did in the trailer.

Straight up retarded.
>>
>>735522437
Sounds comfy.
Makes me understand that maybe what I actually want is like an early 2000s night time vidya city to just wander around with other anons. Talk shit, play mini games, maybe have the opt in street fight pvp.
>>
>>735518728
I played the first beta of this when I was kid and it was actually pretty cool
the graphics were insane at the time and it kind of sucks the emulator is basically nothing compared to the real game, the real time events and story were so amazing literally no online game has ever done something like it, playing out the story live with thousands of other players.
I'm happy I got to experience it before it basically died forever
>>
It's funny because the Matrix creators are known for being troons, yet not once in the Matrix films is there a character whose avatar in the Matrix is a different gender than they are in the real world (through some mistake by the machines). Seems like it would be an interesting plot device.
>>
>>735519474
It was continuing the story with real live in-game events, game masters controlled all the main characters like neo, morpheus, agent smith etc
and they had live voice streaming it was actually pretty insane, I'm a nerdy retard and have played every mmo in existence and nothing has ever come close to being that ambitious not even fortnite events are in real time they're basically scripted instances that play at a specific time.

Only other game I can think of is original everquest live GM events but those were much more rudimentary compared to MxO
>>
>>735542105
I remember hearing that the character Switch was supposed to be played a male actor in the real world scenes.
>>
>>735542167
What's the best forgotten MMO? (Obviously no WoW or Everquest)

What's the worst MMO you've ever played?
>>
the MMOs where they actually tried to give you a chance to exist within a fictional universe were my favorites, like Star Wars Galaxies and this Matrix one.
once you look deeper for balance you find nothing there but the point was more to give that "living another life in another world" feeling.
>>
>>735542228
>What's the best forgotten MMO?
I remember ppl being fucking obsessed with Silkroad as well as Dark Age of Camelot back in the day

>What's the worst MMO you've ever played?
Risk your life online, it was a shittier, free Silkroad.
>>
>>735525820
The Animatrix was better than any of the films though.
>>
>>735518728
i was going to say warhammer online but apparently its back?
>>
>>735542105
Switch was supposed to be trans, she was female in the real world and her Matrix "residual self-image" was male which is why she was named "Switch" in the first place but Warner Bros changed a lot of the script thinking the audience would be too retarded to understand it.
>>
>>735519474
Matrix revived the action/martial arts genre in the same way that Scream revived horror movies.
People basically assumed the genre was dead and used up of all creative potential, and all huge action stars were branching out into dramas and comedies to escape the trap.

It definitely was the hot shit. I remember being an 8 year old on the school playground playing "The Matrix" with friends, where some were the humans and some were the agents. A ton of "nuh uh i dodged the bullet" bullshit but still it's crazy that a rated R movie had such a deep impact on pop culture.
>>
>>735542228
Best forgotten is tough because the very very best mmorpgs have time capsule private servers.
Worse is unironically every modern mmorpg including retail WoW, if you experienced the golden era of mmorpgs it's difficult to get into the garbage of today due to handholdy antisocial shitty mechanics and the overall modern mmorpg community are the worse type of shithead people to play with.

>>735542275
agreed
SWG, early UO (before everyone started botting and just running meta skills), even original everquest and vanilla WoW felt like living breathing worlds at the time due to how much more enjoyable the people journeying along side you were, you could find people hanging out in the most random places that functionally had no content just true SOVL.
>>
>>735542541
The audiences were confused over Keanu Reeves losing his hair then gaining it back even though it was meant to show which world they were currently in and help audiences.
>>
>>735542404
>>What's the best forgotten MMO?

And you weren't, but you still think they're good?
>>
>>735542418
agreed
Second Renaissance was a master piece to teenage me
>>
>>735542574
That sort've sounds like me as a kid, but it's because I thought Neo without hair was lame and I wanted to see more Neo with hair.
>>
>>735520393
Dot hack? Literally had books, an MMO, multiple games and animation.
