proper Steam Sale Thread - carts and recsprev thread >>735475876
Any good games with cute boys that came out this year?
I've been itching for a theme park sim / rct clone, is planet coaster 2 worth it now?
>>735568656I should really update my wishlist, I wait for a sale for months and then have no games I feel like buying during the sale.
>>735568656So far I only got Deus Ex Human Revolution. I'm slightly annoyed it's the console focused Director's Cut, but I still want to (re)play this. Also thinking on getting Peach Beach Splash because out of all the Senran games it looks the most fun.
Can't stop buying rogueslop, someone help me
Greedy Swedish pieces of shit
Probably gonna pull the trigger on this cart soon. Also thinking about Captain Wayne - Vacation Desperation, Metal Garden, Vital Shell and Scorn. I ended up dropping Cavalry Girls since it seems like the gameplay might get dull pretty fast.
>>735569185Once I add stuff to my wishlist I only remove them if they come out and turn out to be mid, or if I pirated them. How do you end up with a wishlist of things you dislike?
>>735569896Don't really dislike my wishlist but it just becomes harder to justify spending money on them most of the time, if I wasn't so anxious about spending money I'd probably clear half of it. Currently how I buy games is if I feel like playing them soon and don't think they're going to be sitting in the library till I feel like playing it again.
>>735568656Curator for games under $5/£4/€5:https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45021728/ This thread's selections:>The Room series, a collection of puzzle/escape room games. Still playing through these myself but they're all consistently good so far.https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/20773/The_Room_Collection/>Wacky crime rail shooter. >>735570223Looks like I took your>I should update my wishlistthe wrong way, as in deleting stuff. what did you mean then?
If I had to buy one big RPG game to last me many hours, what should I buy?
What do we think?
>>735569709Wait why does krita cost money?
>>735569709Is krita better than clip studio?
>>735571307>The steam version updates automatically, the download from the site doesn't. That's it, though obviously paying for the Steam version funds Krita's development, as does donating via the web site.
Anyone got any fantasy/ish action-adventure/aRPG recommendations?
>>735571461Oh it's a donation button, didn't even know I could do that, I'll buy it.
>>735571125Morrowind after modding it with stuff like Tamriel Rebuilt. I currently have 500 hours and am planning on making a new character soon.
>>735571315You can just pirate both, I tried krita but couldn't get used to it, clip studio "felt better" at least for me.
>>735571307It's just for supporting development really, I've used the free version for so long making AI porn that I don't mind putting a few dollars in the tip jar so to speak. Also, stupid as it may sound, but I hope having an hour counter will help motivate me to get some drawing practice done.
>>735571241What is the difference between Hamster Hunter and Squirrel Stapler?
>>735571769>making AI pornExplain, I thought it was just for drawing.
>>735568656Are there other RTS games similar to Stronghold (Crusader)? Something with focus on building efficient economies and supply chains as part of the game? I don't really enjoy PVP based RTS games like Starcraft or Company of Heroes.
>>735571810There's some plugins that let you hook it into ComfyUI (or a similar AI generation interface) and generate images etc. right in Krita. I'm using this one personally: https://github.com/Acly/krita-ai-diffusion . It's extremely convenient for making quick edits, fixing mistakes, inpainting etc. I think a lot of other drawing/image editing programs have similar plugins now, I know photoshop does at least.
bump
>>735572042I wish. You have to make do with stuff like space haven.
i wish steamrip had more indie games
>wait like 4 months for elden ring to go on sale to buy it>its finally on sale>realize the price of the elden ring + dlc bundle is basically the same sales or not and that sales doesnt matter if I wanted to buy both (wich is my case)bruh
>>735573579pirate it, they never go on real sale.
>>735573668too late plus I enjoyed dark soul 1 and I'm currently playing through dark soul 3 and I'm having a great time so I might as well support a studio if they make games I like
>>735572042Riftbreakers might just tick that box for you, albeit it having its second focus on top down shooting.
Pondering if i should get Rewrite+ or another VN. Any VN enthusiasts here?
>>735571125Morrowind (GOTY edition), The Witcher 3, Baldur's Gate 3, Mass Effect trilogy.
What are some good dungeon crawlers/DRPGs/blobbers that play nice with the Steam Deck? Preferably something that isn't just weeb jerkbait. I don't give a shit about half naked anime girls, I want gameplay.
>>735572042Anno 117: Pax Romana
>>735571125Kingdom Come Deliverance IIyou dont have to do the gay shit
>>735574689you won't find an eroge enthusiast using steam
>>735571125don't play kcd2 it's unironic jewish fuckery where you unironically get called goy and can't do anything about it
>>735574915I think anon is better pickin up anno 1800 on sale and then unlocking the dlcs with the uplay unlocker
>>735574730Will i be lost if I never played the other 2 witchers?
>>735575126No, just catch up by watching the netflix tv series.
>>735575126No. There are some references you might not get, but they offer a bit of a "recap" of some of the important things. You can 100% get a great experience out of it even without playing the first games.
>>735571125FFXIV
>>735574689Unfortunately the other anon is right, sadly there are many VNs that either don't release on steam or you just have to patch them (search the patch somewhere).Even worse, if you like to use them to practice japanese most of them don't even have japanese included so you either pirate them or just buy it on other stores (I hate them for this).Have you read anything by key before? You can always try their shorter vns like harmonia or Planetarian.Either way Rewrite is very fun
bought these:>resident evil 3 REmake>zapper: one wicked cricket>grow up>daemonologie>brush burial>platonic>IZON.>hlina>the eternal cylinder>SD gundam battle alliance>ragebought these right before the sale started in full:>lyne>pepper grinder>KH collection>FFX/X-2>anachronox>fear effect sedna>left alive>outriders>project snowblind>quantum conundrumi'm really mad that kunitsugami did not go on sale. i wanted to play that, but not at full price. oh well, maybe at christmas
>>735574730>Mass Effect trilogyfor anyone reading this, get the games separately, not the legendary edition. it's a classic case of a modern "remaster" that is just worse in every aspect
>>735575541Lots of complaints abound for 3 REmake, and some are valid, but if you like short games it's great. At $5 or whatever it's a steal. I would play on Hardcore first if the game lets you (can't remember if you have to clear normal first). Great game to blitz through in one sitting.>>735575616The gunplay is undeniably much better in the Legendary edition of 1. It's worth it for that alone.
>>735575742>The gunplay is undeniably much better in the Legendary edition of 1. It's worth it for that alone.I respect your opinion but youre wrong. might be okay if you played the OG to death and want to try it different but if you never played it, start with OGt. someone who played ME on release
>>735575616What exactly is worse about the Legendary edition? Or is this just typical /v/ contrarianism for the sake of it?
>>735575872I have played the OG to death. An "HD" release of all the games in one package was on my very short "hope they make this some day" list. It looks better and it feels better when playing it. What didn't you like about it?
>>735574575I suppose this is more of a tower defense game than strictly RTS but it looks neat regardless. I put it on my wishlist for now. Thanks for the recommendation!
Should I?
What do you guys play on the Steam Deck? Got any relaxing games?
>>735576180bloons and yet another zombie survivorsbalatro
>>735569709I got Metal Garden last year. I could see people who love Half-Life kinds of shooters enjoying it, but I was personally pretty underwhelmed.
>>735576154RDR and its sequel are both excellent. I didn't care much for Silent Hill f but many did. Did you play the remake of 2?
>>735576584Yeah I played 2 remake and enjoyed it just like the original.
Are Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4 good? I don't like permadeath, so I avoided Fire Emblem until they made it optional.
Thoughts?
>>735576701You might like f. Heavy on combat. Different setting. Some of the puzzles were tough on hard mode.
>>735569709Holy obscure sloppa, I haven't heard of any of these.
>>735571307>>735571315Krita's only maintainer is trans and Clip Studio Paint is the industry standard.
>>735571125FFXVI
>>735568656NOTHAN ill buy crimson desert next month
>>735568656Does anyone else just buy games, and never play them afterwards? Is this normal?
>>735577524Can I pirate that? It's too pricey with all the dlc for me.
>>735577046Valkyria Chronicles 1 is a true "mixed" rating, imo. It can be fun as fuck, but it can also be extremely frustrating. The permadeath isn't nearly as big as a factor as it is in something like Fire Emblem, though. When your units' HP hits 0 they fall unconscious for 3 turns, and only if you fail to reach them in that time (or an enemy reaches them first) then that's when they die forever. Enemies don't deliberately target your units to perma-kill them, either - it pretty much only happens if they were on a patrol route or something that an enemy happened to be moving on.Most of the rage comes from interception fire, RNG in general and the various non-standard objectives.I haven't played 4 but I've heard it's pretty much the same gameplay.
>>735577673It's apparently steams strategy. https://wccftech.com/steam-users-buy-games-theyre-never-going-to-play/I am getting through my backlog slowly though. 80 euro games and shit discounts make it fucking easy.
how alive is halo 3 multiplayer? surely alive enough to justify a few bucks right
Will I get the full story if I buy the KH games on sale on steam? I dont see Story So Far on PC.
>>735568656These sales fucking suck and metashit gives me anxiety about getting a definitive edition. Fuck you, Atlus.
>>735578495You know what to do if you don't want to buy.
>>735577690I thought it sucked, but I may be biased as I am not a Final Fantasy fan outside of 7 (original).
>>735578570Yeah, I just don't buy it and play something else until the next sale. Then complain all over again.
i don't know what to buy... i want good comfy games or fun gameplay-focused games
>>735578797Hey, that's my strategy!
>>735578841Do you like 3D platformers, metroidvanias, and boomer shooters? There are many of those.
I think I'm gonna settle with this.

>>735579702you can always refund
I want to fly helicopters in first person. Not full blown arcade, but no simfaggotry either - just something with fun physics like the older Battlefield games. Any recommendations?
>>735579702DLCs are fine, should've removed Star Rupture too, looks like a slop.
>>735580732
>>735580912>, should've removed Star Rupture toonot that anon but I was thinking it was meant to be some sort of factorio replacement.
>>735574689Most VN's I've played are just the popular ones which you've surely heard of, but for less popular ones which I really liked there's Scar of the Doll (I played the old version) or Aselia the Eternal. Scar of the Doll is a short Adventure VN which is good for 1 or 2 sessions. The art style is nice and different from most VN's I've read too. Aselia the Eternal is a long old school isekai VN with turn-based strategy combat. It's a personal favourite of mine with my favourite ending out of any VN. The combat can be tough so remember to save after every turn. This one has different routes which are mostly determined by who the MC fights with in combat. There's new game + for other routes/extras which you can play on optional higher difficulty levels.

any good SHMUPs under $3? also, anyone played this? is it at all similar to NFL Street or NFL Blitz?
>>735584074Rogue trader was the only good thing this sale. The base game, season pass 1, and cosmetics for only 15,99.
>>735571125Chrono Trigger
I need a game to tide me over until the next atlyss content update comes out, any suggestions?
>>735574823Mate, you gotta realize that the vast majority of modern DRPGs are jap, particularly the console ones, which are the ones that'll control well on the deck. That said, some Experience Inc. games like Undernauts or Strangers in Sword City have a more western look, although I find them quite shallow mechanically and in terms of level design.Look into Vaporum if you don't mind single character and real time combat. The Amberland series are ok-ish might & magic-likes.And I know that Dragon Ruins 2 plays well on the deck, but it's an autobattler...Frankly, if you're dead set against weeb stuff you should just emulate, either old western stuff like Wizardry, M&M, Beholder, Lands of Lore, or some of the less cringe console stuff, like the Dark Spire or Strange Journey...
>>735568656If you like monster tamers, games with fuck tons of builds and unique setups, limitless replayability, and are addicted to optimization your shit, pick up Siralim Ultimate. It's like the Dragon Warrior Monsters of the current age. I basically always pirate my games, but this shit blew me away and I feel like im obligated to support and shout out this dev.

Is Abiotic Factor worth ~$30? I feel like it should go on a steeper sale but that's just based on me being a whiny cheapskate.

They're primarily just action games, 1&2 REALLY show their age but are sovlful.Grim Dawn if you want a Diablo cloneXanadu Next if you want autismkinoI've not actually played it, but God Eater 3 I believe is a REALLY anime Monster Hunter knockoff and it's currently $6, down from $60

The Arkham games are on saleAre they actually good? Can you properly RP as Batman and play it like a stealth game or does it force you to button mash and beat everyone up like it's Spiderman 2 or something
>>735592208>ETS2 giga chad and giga based
>>735592208I say this as someone who bought the Dead Space remake on launch, beat it and liked it: you don't need it compared to the original game. Its not like RE4R where I think it sufficiently differentiates itself in how it plays from the original game to stand next to it, it really is just DS1 again with some small additions that don't add much to the game at all.
>>735568656Crimson Desert, stellar blade, or ff7 rebirth?
>>735592245>Are they actually good?Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are. I never played Origins or Knight>Can you properly RP as Batman and play it like a stealth game or does it force you to button mash and beat everyone up like it's Spiderman 2 or somethingDepends on the part of the game you're in. Some sections force you to do combat and other sections force you to do stealth. Generally though when you're just traversing around the map you can handle it either way.

I think the game looks and sounds pretty good now even if I understand why some dislike the more vibrant art direction compared to 1 and 2. All that has done though is highlight the actual design flaws of the game, mainly in the faction design. USF and DAK just don't work the way Relic wants them to.

If anyone wants an okay 3D platformer experience, try out Valkyrie Saga, it's got a free demo. The environment is nice enough, although the way some of the Constructs (this angelic race of beings) were written was incongruous with the rest of the story's tone. The gliding and diving felt fun, and this game really made me feel just how fucking vertical it was. That last tower is no joke. Beat the game in just a few minutes over five hours. >>735614873Ys ist relatively hard but it has difficulty options. Personally I loved it on nightmare difficulty, and I'm not that good at vidya. Only thing to be aware of is the XP system in Falcom games. Each level gives you a lot of power, but it also halves how much XP monsters give, so it's not possible to overlevel unless you spend hours on it. But it also means the inverse, if you can quickly gain a level, it's probably worth it. I've had situations where I went back to grind for 3 minutes and the level up made my damage go from 3 to 40

End result was that I got bored after a few hours because I enjoyed the fishing and inventory management but didn't enjoy the eldritch nonsense or the writing.

I'm in a funk. My FIL is dying and I need something mindless I can play on the Steam Deck. I don't care if it's on sale.>Slow paced: something that doesn't require quick movements or reactions>No overly anime stuff, just not a fan>Genre doesn't really matter>Would like it to be something I can play for some time, ie not a "one and done"Anybody got a suggestion? I'm not too picky.

>>735639678Dragon Ruins 2?
RimWorld or Elin?
>>735639376NTA, but it was fun imo.
>>735639927Rimworld and it's not even close. You NEED the biotech DLC though
>>735639678My condolences. That'll likely be me in 5-10 years. You might like Satisfactory. You can turn off combat and the game becomes a very self-paced cycle of building factory pieces, making equipment to explore for other resource nodes and crash sites with alternate blueprints, and building more factories. It rewards optimization but rarely requires it beyond napkin math, so whatever level of focus you can muster will be fine.
>>735569709we get it, you hate video games
grabbed these today, i'm in an autistic/ADHD hyperfocus mood
Anyone here play Total War: Warhammer III? I haven't played in a year and want to start again. Who's a good character?

>>735641267Good goy
I still can't decide. RPG is one of my favorite genres, and regardless of that I've never played an RPG with great combat. The combat is always secondary, progression is always my interest in the genre. Ironically, I think great combat can get in the way of an RPG. Why progress your character when just "playing better" gets the job done? I don't care if the combat is boring and uninteresting, it's what I've leveled up and looted that makes it do more damage or my character have more defense that makes it interesting. But the way the combat is described in this game makes it seem like it's so tedious that it will get in the way. I worry about that, that it will ruin the rest of the experience or I'll get frustrated and just alt+F4 and uninstall.
I hate that Baldur's Gate 3 is never dropping under 30 bucksI would pirate it but such a big game would take forever
>>735638389jokes on you, i'm into Sarangalyn now.>>735631270do it for Mr Fox. He deserves to be happe.
>>735641970Ironically KH1 is maybe the only action RPG where both a single point of strength and playing better both felt impactful. It's a hard balance to strike.

>>735642557No idea what the fuck a "reddit game" is, but Vallhalla is a slice-of-life VN with a soft-cyberpunk setting. It's not terrible per se, but the story doesn't really go anywhere and there just isn't anything to recommend about the game.
>>735647409The shekel, unironically
>>735632324If you're going to get Styx, don't forget Of Orcs and Men too. Part of the same series but not packaged with the other games for some reason. Janky shit but charming.
>>735648318Not him, but I never played that either. Heard it was awful dogshit you should skip.
I know someone on /v/ was looking forward to this game
>>735649272It's a very good sokoban but it's just that. You push a bunch of boxes to get to a new screen with more boxes. Turned my brain to mush after a bit, same as Baba Is You. Well-made, though.
>>735639376I AM that anon and just played my first round. It has the same problems every rogue FPS has where all the upgrades are just boring % increases since you can't change the gameplay of an FPS through roguelike means. To be fair I've also played Gunfire Reborn and it's basically the same game just with a western sci-fi aesthetic instead of a Chinese furry aesthetic
>>735649428Gunfire is decent at changing gameplay through character abilities and various tweaks to those, but the guns themselves are often statsticks where you tunnel vision on the one or two that work for your character and ignore the rest.
>>735649428That's just the metaprogression grind for chapter one, the builds get more complex every chapter (items in 2, recipes in 3, weapon upgrades in 4) and you also have unlocks when clearing missions.
>didn't buy a single thing this yearI'm free.
>>735649884Not even deep discounts? Anon...
>>735649992Everything looks boring. Only thing I've even considered getting is Slay the Spire 2. Unless someone has some Steam Deck recommendations.

>>735650124As long as its rewarding in the end im fine with it
>>735650269I already owned tabs on epic myself.
>>735649739I wasn't talking about metaprogression, I meant the perks you pick up during runs. And yeah I guess you can strategize your pickups based on your run but what are you really doing each time? Just shooting enemies in the head and avoiding damage. The good roguelikes change the way you play as you progress, but every FPS one I've played just gives you more damage to counter the increasing HP of enemies
>>735650385Despite owning games on Epic all I use it for is Fortnite and GTA modding. I only really got TABS after seeing all of the 1,000 hour reviews and remembering it being funny on YouTube a few years ago
>>735650092STS2 has been great so far. Is Caves of Qud good?
>>735651857Yes, but it's one of those games that's either a brick wall or you'll play for 200 hours. How do you feel about "literally similar to the game Rogue" roguelikes?

I just finished playing this onehttps://store.steampowered.com/app/1344990/Zefyr_A_Thiefs_Melody/It was a bit too easy IMO but overall it was a very fun zelda-like.Very obviously a one-man project though, so go into it with that. Does anyone know any other 3D zelda-likes? There seem to be tons of 2D but this is the first 3D I know of that is competently executed.
>>735651857Just play Moonring, it's free
>>735637263X's HD "remaster" is notorious for its bogged faces and wrong, well, everything cause i guess they lost a bunch of assets so they redid them from scratch
>>735653615I liked Zefyr quite a bit, it's one of the few Zelda clones that really nails the feeling of exploration even if it definitely was overambitious. I got some fascinating softlocks by doing a puzzle in the wrong order and had to jump off a cliff and blindly throw a fruit at a lever in midair as I fell in order to avoid getting drowned by a water lever change. Astor: Blade of the Monolith isn't quite as good but might scratch the same itch. Oceanhorn sucked and I imagine the sequel is worse. It's more of an A Short Hike clone but Lil' Gator Game has a lot of fun tweaks on zelda items and the movement's a joy as a result. Hob is good if you haven't tried it. Tunic is more of a fucked up little puzzle game than a 'go into dungeon get the item kill the boss' Zelda but is worth checking out. For 2D Zelda I liked Under the Island well enough. Better than The Girl from Arkanya though that one was also fine.

>>735654468Yeah it was a bit overambitious, personally I found the puzzles a bit too simple but I personally encountered no bugs (although apparently he did a big bug fix pass a few weeks ago so maybe that's why).I've been eyeing tunic, perhaps...

>>735577147Just get 2 and skip the first, the games are practically identical except 1 had fomo paid battlepasses.
>>735655669yes
>>735655669Yeah the ports are pretty solid and the modding scene for the games is fairly robust for texturepacks/QoL/randomizers. The games are good but you have to be willing to meet it at its level of earnestness because otherwise it's going to seem intensely stupid.
What's up with mudrunner being 1gb while snowrunner is 60?
>>735656109Pretty sure that size is including 5 years worth of trucks and DLC because I have most of it and my game is 65gb
>>735649272There was a "puzzle" where you had to follow an insect around and copy its path into a grid or something. That was boring, but it wasn't so bad to do once. But then there were more of them. I guess they're probably optional but games shouldn't have this type of filler content.
>>735655669i think theyre ok? but im also sure most people will tell you to stop paying attention once you beat 2 cause the ones after are full of complete nonsense that failed to pay off the retarded retcon soup story after 10 years, rushing it in 3 for no reason AND THEN instead of just trying to tie it up in a knot so they could start fresh.... have decided to continue the story into KH4ive never seen a fanbase get blueballed and jerked around so hard for so long, remember each of these games basically came out on a new console
