Maybe once there is one fucking game that I want to play, or can't play otherwise(through emulation or so on).
That being said, HV method even according to Fitgirl's own explanation is genuinely very risky compared to running a crack, you are running the equivalent of an entire driver that can be exploited(even without the crackers actually being malicious mind you), so the only correct move is to either get a machine that's only exclusively for gaming while storing everything else on a laptop or idk.

Not a very big deal because voices is still working on "proper" cracks btw, so just be patient if you really dont' want the HV method.

Here it's more like, the crack itself might be good but you are trusting both the crackers and the fact the code itself cannot be exploited by ANY other thing your PC will run.

>>735581401
Hypervisor is the function on your pc that controls virtual machines. Basically they emulate a modified copy of windows and run the game in that emulated environment in order to circumvent Denuvo.

It's an issue because the emulated environment is a black box and the means by which it circumvents denuvo can circumvent basically any security on your pc to run any kind of hidden or malicious software. It's not really possible to be sure that there's nothing dangerous within the HV crack and unlike normal malicious software, there's no way to scan or check it and no recourse if something malicious is actually there.

The biggest issue is that the degree of access these cracks have to your system allow them to make permanent changes to hardware settings that wouldn't be reverted by formatting a harddrive or reinstalling windows. Obviously no hackerman benefits from making your pc blow up, but it could mean introducing invisible and irreversible backdoor security vulnerabilities that ordinary garden variety malware may later exploit down the line. The limits to what could be done and how to capitalize on it are the limits of the attacker's imagination. Even if the source was completely transparent and trustworthy, there would be good and rational reasons to not use an HV crack.
>>
Hypervisor only protects against viruses that try to take over your OS or install rootkits. Something that the CIA would try to install on your PC, or a Chinese hacker group specifically targeting your company for industrial espionage/ransom (and they have a backdoor anyway).

The kind of virus that 99% of you faggots fall for, like credit card stealers, keyloggers, ransom trojans and so on don't need kernel level access and don't give a fuck about hypervisors. They can do all the damage with simple user privileges. Hypervisor does nothing for most average users.

At the lowest level all pieces of hardware have a simple set of instructions they read and execute independently that tell them how to function, which are then collated in the motherboard's bios.
For example, your power supply controls how much power flows through it to the motherboard, including limiters that prevent too much power coming through (say, in case of a power surge). You can access some of these controls via the bios, like if you wanted to undervolt your CPU to save power. But you can't access all of them through ordinary user interface. You couldn't intentionally make the power supply allow in enough power to start a fire, for example. Technically the settings exist to be changed, but they're made inaccessible to the user so that they don't do something stupid. Obviously no attacker cares about setting your pc on fire but it's an easy example to understand.

HV cracks access this level of hardware behaviour. It does so, ostensibly, to spoof data about CPU frequency that Denuvo monitors. But, like I said already, the limits to what you could do with this kind of access is the limits of your creativity and the most obvious application is undermining how basic security protocols on a higher level are executed in a way that can be exploited at a later date in a wider, more distributed attack. The protection against this kind of attack is not giving anonymous software access in the first place.

And no I don't think it's a coincidence that russian HV cracks have surfaced all of a sudden 4 years into a losing war.

They failed from heat stress. Power flows through a conductor. Based on the resistance of the conductor, some power is lost into the conductor as heat. As the conductor heats up, its resistance increases and this feedback loop will eventually cause a failure.

Only Nvidia knows if the problem was bad firmware causing the card to draw an unsafe amount of power, or bad manufacturing tolerances producing circuits with too much resistance.

It doesn’t hack the bios or store a virus on the CPU or anything like that, or at least it doesn’t do anything more than what a game asking for admin used to be able to do.

What hypervisor is, you know virtual machines, right? Well one way to do them in enterprise is to have a small OS called hypervisor run those VM. It’s basically the OS that hosts the virtual machines and does nothing else. Last versions of Windows apparently use such an architecture to isolate some of its OS components. So if it’s malicious it’s just same as traditional Windows admin access. If you could hack the BIOS you could do it with that too.

I think it’s fundamentally retarded to trust Windows security in the first place let alone with pirate programs installed. Use a separate Linux PC for that.

Okay? I thought my system was supposed to catch fire and explode and my bank account was supposed to be zeroed. That was way easier and tamer than I thought it was going to be.

Those games suck ass so I wont pirate them but I support the HV crack. Anything to fuck over the multi million dollar company with their nu-devs is a win in my book.

I already have a lot of cracked apps and games on my PC, so I’m worried that if I turn off DSE, any hidden malware could take advantage of that and spread. I’d rather not use hypervisor...
