Sadly I expect it sold about as well as the rest of the series. Prime 4 was such a disappointment.

I hope the next mainline Metroid game doesnt come out for another 20 years.

For what it cost in terms of time and money? Immensely. Almost certainly forced Tanabe into early "retirement"

Meanwhile I've played SM to death. I can speedrun it under an hour or two, know all sorts of tricks to sequence breaks, have played a dozen full conversion mods, and can clear randomizers (room shufflers and AP) no problem

Yes. And it deserved to. Garbage game. Worst final boss and ending I've ever experienced in a game and it completely ruins it.
