What are the must play dungeon crawlers? I'm new to this genre but it tickled an itch and I want more.
>>735597886Any DRPG that doesn't have anime in it.Basically, any Western DRPG is good while any Japanese one outside of Wizardry is sludge.Play Wizardry Gaiden 1 on GB and you'll thank me later.
>>735597886The Etrian Odyssey series is a decent start.
>>735597886Are the asses really necessary for the gameplay?
>>735597886Dungeon & Bride
Might & Magic VI
>>735597886That pic and like Etrian Oddysey 4. There's a few EO games that are good if you don't specifically want that one. Mary Skelter is good. Experience, Inc has made a ton of dungeon crawlers but a lot of them are not worth trying. Probably Undernauts is the best bet.
>>735597886>tfw lost my Labyrinth of Refrain save so I just play GrimrockAlways backup your saves with Steam Cloud
>>735598301>Mary Skelter is good
>>735597886Zanki Zero
>>735598175I really enjoyed the structure of the world. Open ended maps and using spells to traverse and open up new routes. Are there any other games that do this?Shame the porn was mostly NTR shit and the monsters each only had 1 specific race they could fuck. Still, great non-porn game.
>>735597886I really liked The Dark Spire on thr DShttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIXedqHyWNY
>>735597886I really wish the combat in these games was better.
>>735598169Yes.
>>735598405The aging mechanic made me sad so i stopped playing.
play eye of the beholder
>>735599179I prefer Menzoberranzan
>>735597886this just looks ridiculous
>>735597886I didnt even get a chance to play it lmao, that was quick.
>>735599556Go back to /r/thedonald or play Disgaea
>>735597886Etrian Odyssey is a good starting point (4 and EOU2 for beginners, 3 for when you get more familiar with the mechanics and don't mind some of the jank of the earlier games). If you want some other suggestions, I would consider Legend of Grimrock or Vaporum too if you want something more akin to puzzles or CRPGs.
>>735598340i love those mushroom guys
>>735597886Dungeon Travelers 2Might and Magic 3Elminage Original
I made Tim Cain's chocolate chip pumpkin muffins of Stonekeep fameThey were pretty good
I just happened to find this one when looking up dungeon crawlers on the DS. Anyone played it?
>>735597886Elminage original or gothicStranger of sword city or sapphire wings. Wizardry of any sort.
>>735600737Also Japanese boxart.
>>735597886So, do they tempt you into licking them or what?
>>735600737>NA artOh shit, this chick is trapped in a crystal!>>735600806>JP artMe and my dog(wolf) are gonna go out there and kill some monsters! YEAH!
are there games that have the team building aspects of drpgs but not the excruciating dungeon mapping parts? I love setting up my party but dark zones and teleporter mazes make me want to kill myself.
>>735601030Dragon Quest 9 and 3
>>735601030You probably would be better off playing a normal 4 niggas in a row type game in this case.
>>735601030There are DRPGs that auto map, if that's what you mean. If the "fog of war" of needing to explore it yourself is the detractor, then I don't think there are and DRPGs without it. I too wish there were teambuilding traditional JRPGs on the level of DRPGs.
>>735601067Dragon Quest 9 is one of the best of its genre so you can't go wrong
>>735601067already played both of those>>735601072regular jrpgs don't usually have as much depth as drpgs.>>735601223the auto mapping feature in any game I've played that had one has always been worthless shit. either you have to step on every single tile for it to work or it's missing important information that you have to manually add anyway.
>>735601030Something like the Conception games? You set out with the MC and 3 set of teams, has a procedural dungeon and some traps to avoid. No dark zones and puzzles since its procedural.
>>735601325>either you have to step on every single tile for it to workThat is....literally the point of the genre. Just go play pokemon or something. This genre clearly isn't for you.
>>735597886rance vi
>>735597886Okay Dungeon Crawlerbros. What's the optimal party size for a Dungeon Crawling game?
>>735601529>conceptionGo on...
>>735598087I'm playing Etrian Odyssey 4 and I'm thinking of dropping my medic for an Arcanist because of Wufans skills. When do I get subclasses?
>>7356016283, 4, or 5
>>735598087>>735598301>>735601662So is 4 the one to play if I'm gonna play one?
>>7356016286. 3 front 3 back.
>>735601618
>>735601773It's arguably the easiest EO to get newcomers into the series. Beyond that, it's just a damn good game.
>>735601325I haven't played it but Dungeon Antiqua is supposed to be "Wizardry", whereas Dungeon Antiqua to is supposed to be FFV basically.
>>735601797>didn't bump into every wallngmi
>>735601662partway through the next stratumIt's pretty common for parties to want to do exactly that when you have subclassing.
>>735601797Needs teleport traps
>>735600737yeah
>>735601662subs soon. You can absolutely drop a medic for wufan/an arcanist but just remember that since you're going from strong raw heals to HoTs, your party might need to be beefier than before to accommodate.
>>735601529
>>735601797>NOOOO I HAVE TO READ IN A VISUAL NOVEL?not understanding a genre is not criticism
>>735597886>Etrian 3>Labyrinth of Refrain >Labyrinth of GalleriaThats it. Dont let any wizardry or exp inc faggot tell you otherwise.DO NOT
>>735597886DT2/2-2
>>735601773Its my first one and it's very difficult until you can farm golden sheep. It's been very fun so far using different classes and figuring out what moves are good or bad. Take it slow because these games are very long too>>735601934>>735602015Thanks
>>735598169>are these designs too appealing?
>>735602362Galleria was some of the worst trash I ever played
>>735604632Why? Actually curious. I liked Refrain.
>>735604632nta but I’m not really into Coven’s mechanics so Refrain and Galleria were carried by its story at least for me. That said I still haven’t finished Galleria or the rest of the EO series maybe i’m just burnt out on the map making or something.
>>735597998>Wizardry Gaiden: Suffering of the Queen (1991) was developed and published by ASCII Corporation in Japan for the Game Boy. It was the first Japanese-produced, licensed spin-off of the Wizardry franchise, featuring original storylines while utilizing a modified Wizardry V engine, with primary development team members including director Hiroshi Mita and designer Norihiro Sekizuka. Uh oh
>>735605380NTA and I loved Galleria, but they clearly ran out of money mid-development since the latter half of the game mostly used randomly generated dungeons.
>>735605632>any Japanese one outside of WizardryReading comprehension.
>>735601773That's the best one, yes. You can't really go wrong, but you might as well start with EO4.
>>735601797You're completely right and there's no reason a modern automap system shouldn't be more intelligent. The grid design is for player-mapping (which ironically doesn't require stepping on every square because you can draw what you see).Obviously an auto-mapping system should also have an indicator of what you've seen but not stepped on, for trap purposes.
>>735602184
The only good dungeon crawlers are anime dungeon crawlers.
>>735600737Poor quality mobile port. Don't bother.
is this any good?
>>735606117It’s fine. Maybe too easy. A little cringe and shameless. And the remake butchered the level lengths in the first game apparently and probably censored some stuff if I remember right.
>>735602184>>735601529tell me more about this game called "conception"
>>735606117Doesn't some girl piss on her dad who transformed into a chair?
>>735598405>One of heaviest censored game everYou're a retard and you should feel bad.
