Do you own any emulation handhelds /v/? I have an r36s.
it's not in my possession but I have a retroid 6 making its way from china at this moment
>>735631412Like a month ago I bought a r36s from a local store, turns out it was a emulec clone but I learned there are customfirmwares for those...except when I when to the SD card there wasn't that fucking "identification" file, turns out what I got was the worst possible clone of r36s: the ones with the firmware on the mother card and not in the SD card which makes customization impossible so I smashed it in the ground in a fit of rage, 120 of my country coin wasted.
>>735631412
>>735631412I ordered a AYN Thor for ds/3ds emulating and I use my Steamdeck for everything else. The power combo if you will.
Samsung s5e tablet + Gamesir g7 + Vibepollo/moonlight
Yeah but I haven't used it in at least 6 months. I have both the RGSP and the Trimui Brick. They're cute, were fun to setup and tinker with, and I did get through a couple Pokemon romhacks on them as well as some other retro games, but my lifestyle and playing habits just don't really facilitate the need for handhelds.
Got me little RG35XXSP, was feeling tempted by that Ayn Thor but I held out. MuOS, can run up to PS1 stuff but I've just been working through my GBA backlog.
>>735633914>Gamesir g7fuck i meant g8 +
The THOR, SP, and Brick seem like the top trio to me right now depending on what you're looking for
I have AYN Thor which is quite kino when you replace the lagtroid with rocknix
>>735631412Anyone actually complete games on these things? If so, any suggestions?
>>735631412i have r36 but it makes my vision all blurry if I play on it for a few hours. Never had that problem with any other kind of screen. Is it just because they are cheaply made?
>>735631412These are the handhelds that I actively fuck with from time to time. The RG Slide is my newest emulation handheld and the handheld that I spend the most time with. Recently I've been enjoying the new GBC port/remake of Friday the 13th (NES). A lot of gameplay improvements over the NES original. Music isn't as good though, IMO.
>>735632196you can still customize those anon. You just have it boot from the OS on the SD card and it only goes back to emuelec with no card inside it. It's honestly preferable since it makes them harder to brick.
>>735631412RG34XX arrived in the mail today, gba really had good ergonomics. going to spend the next couple of days sorting through gba, ps1 and maybe some psp games to load onto it.
Anyone know of a good new handheld that can play original gameboy advanced games? The chromatic looks great but it only supports GB color games.
>>735631412I've owned an RG40XX-H for over a year. Never finished a single game though.
>>735635103There isn't one. The only "upgraded' GBAs currently are FunnyPlaying's new motherboard that you have to pull the RAM off of an old motherboard to use and then solder it on. The only thing that plays native GBA games is the Analogue Pocket. There's rumors FunnyPlaying might to an FPGBA and the motherboard is a test for that, but nothing has come of that yet and the FPGBC has seemingly died in terms of them supporting the cores but they're also not open sourcing it.If you actually want a "modern" GBA just buy an RG34XX instead of a modded GBA or looking for FPGA equivalents. It's literally 1:1 the same ergonomics, they just added ZR and ZL buttons to where the cartridge slot is and added a few more buttons. GBA emulation has been solved for over a decade at this point and the RG34XX does 3x integer scaling perfectly.
>>735631412R36S and RG35xxI'm currently going through N64 games to see what runs. Sad news is Banjo Tooie doesn't on mine.
>>735635103You can pretty easily mod a GBA with a backlit screen. FunnyPlaying has solderless kits. You would also need to buy a flash cart though if you want to load ROMs. Theres also the analogue pocket. this is if you're specifically saying you want to play GBA carts.I just prefer having less plastic and chinkshit lying around nowadays which is why i would prefer just having one device for everything
>>735633956SP can actually even run some dreamcast, got crazy taxi on mine, great little device. currently play advance wars for the first time, fun!
>>735635371based
>>735635484That analogue pocket actually looks pretty sick, thanks for the info.
>>735631412I have one of these I got this past weekanyone know about copying the micro SD that came with it? I tried to copy to a better Samsung card using Win32 Disk Imager but it's not reading it when I put it in the R36S. I heard it doesn't matter what sort of card you use in the OS slot so not sure why it isn't working.Guess I'll try a different card and if that doesn't work I'll try to use a different program to copy it. Just not sure what the problem might be.Going to eventually make a fresh install of ArkOS on a 2 card setup and clean up the ROMs listings, add shit, etc... but for now just wanted to copy the cheap ass stock card.
>>735637050>the micro SD that came with itoh you stupid newfag.
>>735637192what am I missing here? It came with a 64gb piece of shit no name card that I want to replace
>>735637050Dont know about R36S, but I flashed my mem card with the reddit approved hip and happening os.
>>735637273>>735637050idk. i usually dont fuck with the shit it comes with at all and instantly slap a custom OS on it. why would you want it?
No, I am not a fucking retard throwing away money for useless garbage like a child or femoid.
>>735637351because there are a lot of stories online about the cards that came with it becoming corrupted because they're so cheap so it's a good idea to replace them with something more reliable. It should be just as simple as flashing it onto a new card really.Hoping maybe I just used one that was incompatible anyway. At the moment I'm not changing anything, I just want an exact copy of what they sent onto a better micro SD. I'll upgrade it down the road.
>>735637382Don't you mean manchild/moid or foid? Newfie alert
>>735637542That's what I'm saying. I just toss their card and use my own 16-32gb card from Amazon, I don't use their stock OS or card at all.
>>735634457It was a GA36 Clone, according to the wiki is completely useless and doesn't have any custom firmware.
>>735637273I think anon means that is better to make a NEW SD card with arkos rather than copying the cheap one into a good SD card. After all, are you really gonna play 90% of the games it comes with? Most people prefer to make a new OS and just put the games you want.
>>735631412RG35XX+i play GB,GBC and GBA games on it with RetroAchievementsthe rest i emulate on my PC 99% of the timei'd get a Thor if i trusted the touch screen to work well with touch heavy games, but i don't. Maybe by the time 3DS is added to RA, there will be a better one anyway.
>>735637873ah, yeah that's my next step. I just got it a few days ago so haven't even messed with it for an hour yet. I wanted to figure out what all new ROMs and shit I wanted to get first before bothering with making a proper 2 card setup as I want it.>>735637635the legit ones are running ArkOS which is fine with me. Think I'll end up sticking with that, but I guess there is a new one called DarkOS recently that some people say can run some N64 and PSP games better.I do want to mess around with portmaster and put Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Half Life, and Brutal Doom on it when I do switch to a 2 card setup. That and updating the PS1 library to have good games + deleting all the annoying duplicates in the ROM listings are the top things I want to do.
>>735637551God I fucking hate newfies so much its unreal
>>735631412Yeah, I've got a TrimUI Brick Hammer and a regular Brick. Also have a Retroid Pocket Classic that is out for delivery this very moment.
>>735638102>i'd get a Thor if i trusted the touch screen to work well with touch heavy gamesIt does but only if you install rocknix which is still in its early days in terms of Thor support. EBA felt pretty playable with a smaller stylus I got from etsy
ModRetro Chromatic and a RP5G2. They weren't on my radar until a Chinkheld thread a couple of weeks ago. I like them. Waiting for the the flash cart for the ModRetro, I think that's the one I'll end up playing most. I do have Baseball. GB Baseball is still great.
>>735634389>GBC port/remake of Friday the 13th (NES).Oh shit, gonna check that. I loved that game as a kid. Had NO IDEA what I was doing, but it was fun.
>>735640738It's called Pocket Friday the 13th Revisited, came out a few days ago. You can only play as one counsellor, and it's much easier, but I do like it a lot.
>>735631412Still have this shit from back when I was a kid. I also have a GB Printer, extra paper and cables in the case... don't actually have the cart/camera tho.
This chinkshit has skyrocketed since I last looked into it. Is the best vertical still RG35XX?
>>735631412I've almost bought this piece of shit about three times, but I always end up giving up because the SD card oit comes with it is total trahs, and I'm too lazy to figure out how to clone it (because you can't just copy and paste the contents onto a good SD card)...
>>735637693oh ok I have a different clone that works similarly but I can still customize it. r36max
Question: What’s a good "official" device to use for emulators? I’m thinking of buying an hacked Switch Lite, but there are probably other options, right? What do you guys think?
>>735641695personally I prefer the 3ds
>>735641194You're not meant to copy and paste the contents because all the roms that come with it are either corrupted, not in english or mislabeled. Putting a fresh install of ArkOS and adding roms is easy as fuck
>>735641835I got one sitting in a drawer. N3DSXL Galaxy. I can't believe the price it can go for. If any Anon wants it, I'll set up a protonmail.
>>735631412For me, it's the RG300IPS. For:>N.E.S. >GayBoy >GayGear >Master and Commander System >Johnny Turbografix-16>Genesis...the video game system, not the band.and some basic bitch Stupor N.E.S. gaymes (it runs Mario All Stars so there's that), it just works. Plus it plays Doom (runs alright) and Quake (kinda, not enough buttons to do stuff). Also has a battery compartment so if it ever becomes a spicy pillow, I can quickly open it up and safely dispose of it properly. Of course being a chinkheld it has it's flaws, the D-pad is mushy, dust easily gets inside the screen, there's light bleeding, and the battery is loosely held in place, so you gotta hold it leaning forward a bit so it doesn't get loose and shuts off the systemThanks for reading my blog.
>>735641845So the best thing to do would be to buy it without a SD card, right?Unfortunately, I can't find any options like that. I think I'll just buy the one with the smallest SD card available...Note: I'm worried the buttons will start to sink in after two months of use. The buttons on the R36 seem to be that bad.. holy shit

>>735635103Modretro's next project after their N64 clone might be a GBA clone. They kinda teased it shortly after the Chromatic was released.
Got an Odin 2 and an RG35XXH and I love them both. The Odin has a screen issue sometimes but overall retro gaming has never been more kino. For anyone wanting to get into retro chinkhelds, it's hard to beat the RG35XXH. It's like fucking $50 these days to boot.
>>735634201All chinkhelds are perfect for low-physical-skill games like turn based or JRPGs or puzzle games. The second you start playing anything requiring finger dexterity, a controller immediately becomes superior.
>>735642295The SD card they use is legit worthless anon. Probably costs them like $1 extra to include it, it's a no name chink card. They sell replacements of them for under $5 loaded up with ArkOS and ROMs. They always include it but you aren't really paying much of a premium on it. A legit R36S is around $30-$40 usually.https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807259918937.html

>>735643110>>735642295Also that said, don't spend extra for the 128gb or 256gb versions. I'd have to assume it's just more roms you could get for free on a shit card you'd want to replace anyway.

>>735637050>anyone know about copying the micro SD that came with it?Don't even bother. If you're trying to save the stock OS there's never a reason to. Someone has already dumped the stock OS and you always want a CFW for these ASAP. The stocks are always out of date in every respect, poorly optimized, lacking features, and not user friendly in the slightest. Anbernic (and I think TrimUI) for example have games run significantly worse if you click on one section (Game Room vs. Retroarch) to the point that your framerate is essentially halved. The roms are nearly always a mix of stuff dumped 20-40 years ago (Meaning they're usually done incorrectly or missing content in the rom itself that can cause glitches), proper modern dumps, or Chinese bootleg dumps. Go source your own roms, do not use anything that comes with the actual systems.
>>735631412i got a Retroid Pocket 3, a trimui smart pro, a miyoo A30 and a Miyoo Flip v2. I stopped buying chinkshit when i realized i was buying them just because they were cheap but i barely use them, I still prefer to play games on intended hardware
>>735645342Yeh. I'm thinking in retro Analogue may have been a better option. But Flashcart is on it's way and I'm committed now.
>>735645605Because I already carry both a ps4 and a 360 whenever I take the bus
>>735643331Because a hacked 3DS can barely do GBA and nowadays is $250ish if you want a New 3DS/2DS that can even do that reliably. Sure, you get DS and 3DS support, but that's it, and you're at the mercy of ported emulators instead of native ones. A hacked Vita only does up to PSP, and if I remember correctly the Retroarch version is a port instead of a native one so you can't get the latest cores but I haven't looked into that situation in a while.A $30 handheld can do up to around GBA. A $50-80 one can do up to PS1 though not Duckstation. A $100-150 one can do up to around PS2 and GC, and a $250+ one can do around Wii-Switch depending how high you're going. You also have the advantage of Linux (Meaning native nightly emulators, not ports), Android (For mobile gaming if you want that), and everything emulators can benefit you.The only people recommending to emulate with the 3DS or Vita are people who don't pay attention tot his space. They are years out of date at this point and were only good when they were in their heyday. The 3DS is best left to playing DS and 3DS games and the Vita is best left just to Vita and PSP games and even then the PSP isn't perfect. Emulation handhelds are cheap by comparison and have significant advantages of Linux or Android that they can utilize to benefit you over locked down systems.

>>735631412I got a steam deck and a miyoo mini plus, I love the game switching stuff on the miyoo mini, not sure if any other devices do it>>735634201I went through the DKC trilogy on mine recently
>>735649546You understand that improperly dumped roms lead to random issues with games, right? Things like the ground disappearing underneath you in SMB3 GBA, piracy checks being activated, it being unable to work on an actual device, etc. It's very prevalent with old NES dumps for example, or trimmed GBA roms and PSP csos.
>>735631412I have an RG34XXSP and a RG476H.The 34sp is quite good, it has 3x integer scaling for GBA and they look quite nice on it. It's the same size screen as the original SP despite being 3x the resolution, but that also means I think it feels a little bit too small for some games. The 476H at 4:3 works quite well for anything close to 4:3, but I'm not a huge fan of the fact that it runs Android. I looked into dual screen handhelds and they all seem to suck so I dug out my old 3DSXL which I still happened to have somehow and updated the firmware and now it's great for 3DS and DS games as well. I'm thinking of doing the same with my Vita for playing PSP and Vita games but I'll probably need to order in a new charger for it because I've lost half of the original charger. Vita emulation seems to be pretty terrible so going with original hardware seems to be the smart play. I also have a Steam Deck but I've been somewhat unimpressed by it, it's a bit too bulky. I also have an R36 somewhere but I haven't opened the box yet because it ended up coming about the same time as the Anbernic devices and I spent my time setting those up instead. I'd really like more devices with bigger screens but underpowered enough that they don't need active cooling. That seems to be a missing segment of the market right now.
>>735631412i've got analogue pocket but it doesn't get used much since mister is just better at the job

I had an Odin 2 Base, but sold it to upgrade to a Rog Ally X. They're pretty similar, but the rog can actually run PC games without all the bullshit that gamenative requires. I might buy a cheap $50 handheld just to do up to N64/PS1 emulation if a good deal comes up some day though.

>>735634201Go play all the snes games that have recent fan translations and romhacks
>>735651145The device itself is small, yeah, it can fit in your palm, but the integer scaling for the games itself works great. If you want something big then you have the RG Cube (I think 6x?) or the Analogue Pocket (10x integer scaling)
>>735651345the RG Cube and RG Cube XX both only have 720x720 3.95 inch screens. The analogue pocket is even smaller. I thought about a cube but 160x144 is really awkward with 720, 160 divides into 720 4.5x while 144 divides into it 5xBasically you end up integer scaling 4x to 640x576 and only using 70% of the screenI want something more like 5 inches with perfect integer scaling. Got it mainly to play Pokemon and various Pokemon romhacks, and it's done exactly what I need it to.Now that the various companies have started making two-screen devices, I hope the same trend continues where they keep shitting out new models and eventually the price goes down. I'd like a DS emulation handheld but I don't want to pay over $100 for one. They're nice to have but I don't use them all that much
>>735655143I have that one as well. I ordered a legit r36s from boyhom on Aliexpress
>>735631412EasyRPG
>>735644838PSP actually runs amazingly, was playing some Freedom Unite earlier without any issue. Well, it was cramped as shit on the GBA buttons, but besides that it ran perfectly
Anyone here own the Mangmi Air X? How is psp emulation?
>>735656301The only way you're playing DS games right now with RA is the Thor or the AYANEO Pocket DS, and the latter is filled with QC issues while the former is still trying to get off the ground with CFW fixing its input lag issues.
Reminder that Anbernic lied about the RG DS and it can't even run DS games let alone 3DS games.
>>735635371i can tell this site has been infested with zoomgroidal dopamine fried achievements whoring niggers these days by how incessantly you fucking faggots prattle on and on about MuH fInIsHiNg GaYmEsgames aren't about achievements, they're about fun, when they're no longer fun you fucking move on, only faggot assed niggers give the slightest fuck about MUH COOMPLEEESHUN
>>735657179i.e. you suck at games.Cope, zoomie.
>>7356433313ds and vita ar unergonomic pieces of shit and can't emulate SHIT you stupid niggeroidal faggot
I have retroarch on my phone and can emulate up to gamecubeWhy wouldnt i just get a bluetooth controller and use that?
>>735658168Thermal throttling. You use your phone for emergencies, phone calls, texts, and to look things up. The thing needs to be available for a minimum of 8-15 hours without charging and by deciding to game with it you are cutting down that use time to like 3-4 hours. You now have to carry a controller extension which itself will also drain the battery of your phone to either charge its own battery or just be used in general.Phone emulators aren't as good as Linux emulators.
>>735648003The button is for save states/menu access, and you can just turn that function off. GB X7's do not require you to use the button for regular saving.
>>735650252Yeah, it's quite small, arguably too small. I really like it though.
>>735658485today I learned GTA was on gameboy.
>>735647239>slap>zoomgroidal thinks he could ever be whitetop jej
>>735631412I have a Steam Deck and literally purchased a R36H 30 mins. ago
>>735631412my odin 2 portal finally got shipped after a month of waiting
>>735658485forgot that's how the pokemon pinball cartridge looked, why was that?
>>735653961you are tech literate
>>735659190That's how GBC carts with rumble look. You need to put a separate AAA battery in there to have it function.
>>735659275don't remember my GBC rumbling when i played it but it's too long ago. I played Saphire and Ruby Pinball a week ago and was surprised that my chinkheld was vibrating though.
>>735657891ESL retard
Why is the r36s/r36h so popular?
>>735643331this post really enraged the chink shills sorry, but I'm just not buying your plastic e-waste! a 3ds, vita and steam deck are all i will ever need for portable gaming
I've been meaning to buy one for over a year, constantly consuming content about them but never actually pulling the plug, mostly because I'm fighting internally between what I want, what I need and reality.Realistically, I don't need one. But I feel like being on my desk stops me from really playing some older games. But "old" can mean SNES, PS1 or PS2/GC. Very different screen ratios/sizes, controller preferences, session times and prices. I have a hacked old 3DS XL but I hate the ergonomics on it, so I exclusively use it for 3DS/DS games. I also have a hacked switch but the damn thing has terrible controls, battery life and it honestly feels like it's coming apart, plus I'd need to replace the joycon sticks too. And I wouldn't use my phone because I need my phone to have juice for the rest of the day.Who am I kidding, it's my consumerism fighting my stingyness fighting my procrastination.
>>735631412Yes, the Steam Deck. But I wan't to get an ARM Emu Device with android maybe. I want to farm Retroachievements. Is that retarded? The only reason I didn't get the Analogue Pocket, was because there is no way for cheevos
>>735660341Yeah I don't think a chinkheld is for you, you sound like the kind of guy that would play it for 10 hours or so, then only 30 minutes or something a year
>>735656489Good to hear, thanks for letting me know,
luv me flip2
>>735660341I do enjoy mine for ripping me away from other distractions. For ergonomics I use grip expansions for all of the new stuff, including 3DS too. Only on my steam deck I dont need to because its chunky.
I was wondering if I should mod my Vita 1000. Will it affect being able to play my cart games as well as game updates?
>>735662030Nope
>>735631412No chinese handheld is enough powerful for emulation of my Main Console (PS Vita). Atelier Saga is impossible in that devices
>>735663215technically there are a bunch powerful enough for the vita, it's just that vita emulation, and vita emulation on android, is still not great enough to play most games
>>735663215weird esl.chinkhelds play more atelier games than the vita.
>>735633914This sounds great, any photos? I have a Galaxy Tab A8 (10.5') and an Ipega PG9083s controller, love this budget setup that just works.
>>735632196This post reeks of brown
Does my phone count?
>>735666252all of the midrange retro consoles are just phones with built in controllers so yeah
I just ordered a carrying case for my R36S from AliExpress for like $2.50. Thought this case for an old external hard drive I had was big enough but not quite.was going to just use an old Crown Royal bag but would feel slightly too trashy since everyone knows what those bags are. Like if it were all black I'd be good with it.
>>735643331Vita sucks in general for a wide variety of reasons.Having a hacked 3DS is based though, but you're still limited to which systems you can play effectively, and trying to play regular DS on it is complete ass due to the lack of integer scaling. This is why I own both a DSi and a 2DS, though I might sell the 2DS because I hate that slab form factor and also want something with the 3D slider.>>735631412I play my 28xx quite a bit usually, but I'm distracted with my hacked DSi more these days, playing Picross games, hacked Pokemon and trying out Nostalgia for the first time since the OG DS.Nostalgia's okay, it's not tickling my nostalgia as much as I thought it would.I've played tons of hours on and given away a few different chinkhelds over the last couple years, but my """endgame""" chinkheld (RP6 12GB) is coming in a few days unless USPS shits the bed. There's a not-zero percent chance I might just sell it when it gets here though since the 12GB version is an endangered species and the fact they're reselling for 2-3x the price is calling to me like fuckin' Sauron or something.
>>735633810Handhelds are so damn good now. We've come a long way.
>got curious thanks to thread>search local marketplace app>there are multiple Chinkmulation devices with the same model number but different brands on the market
>>735667578if you're looking for an R36S you're probably best going through one of these sellers to not get a shitty clonehttps://handhelds.wiki/R36S_Buying_Guide#List_of_trusted_Sellers
I have had the miyoo a30 for about 2 weeks now and I love it
I kind of wish I had gotten the R36H instead of the R36S just because it seems more comfortable being horizontal. My fingers are pretty long and the R36S is slightly small feeling for me. Not tiny or anything but think it'd be more comfortable with my hands somewhat further apart. Eventually will probably replace it and hook one of my friends up with the R36S.
these handhelds are the sort of product that just really makes me wonder how people would react to it 40 years ago, especially regarding the price like somehow if you could go back with all these future games, on a relatively thin handheld color device with a rechargeable battery that lasts like 4 hours, that costs less than 1 new game does... it would just seem completely impossible.
>>735668326the nes came out 40 years ago. the thought of handhelds didnt even exist, outside of weird shit like that football game or game and watch, which is why the gameboy was so ground breaking.
>>735668154>pokemon>needing to show cash in the photogrow up you insecure man child
>>735643331neither of those can run ps1 well (POPs has a ton of issues), plus they're overpriced
>>735631412I had a miyoo mini but it got stolen a couple months ago. Yes he was a nigger, i wasn't the only one to get culturally enriched however, the fucker went through all our lockers and stole everyone's wallets, except mine because it never leaves my pocket.I'm not buying another one ever, i basically only used it to play aria of sorrow for the umpteenth time in the bus. It might be useful for someone with a job that entails doing fuck-all the entire shift, like a mall cop or something, but i wash dishes for a living and the little free time i get at work has to be spent dicking down slutty teens or doing coke in a dirty bathroom, you go insane otherwise.
>>735668452I kind of just threw a date out there. Guess I was just saying that having such a powerful little console for under $40 is crazy. I think even today most people aren't aware of these and would probably assume an R36S would be $100+But I'm a boomer. I remember thinking the TV tuner on my cousin's game gear was the coolest thing, even though we used an adapter because it ate through the batteries in like an hour. Perhaps I'm just easily impressed. Still though I find it incredible.
>>735631412Nah, I just use my phone with a MCON while out in public, much more convenient than carrying around a second device. While I'm at home I use actual handhelds like my Deck or 3DS though.
>>735668990I'm an '85 fag. for me, between the switch, the deck, and these emulation machines, my literal childhood fantasy is a reality.
>>735631412I never got rid of my N3DSXL or Vita so I just use those. for stuff above PS1/N64 I just own a bunch of soft modded (and one hardmodded xbox) and a CRT so I just play those games on that instead. Was eyeballing the Thor though, friend of mine got one so I'll see how the hinges feel a year or so from now, and if they hold up I'll pull the trigger.
