Kojima really took the shitty boss with cool design from the first game, put him in a substory, gave a proper background, the food ration, a big ass bt-cat sidekick with Gojira-like boss fighting theme, and most important an ability to make this fight better and different — a bloody coffin board. Too bad it's not customizable considering the surf culture of Australia. Still It's an extremily fun thing, especially if you ride it through the mules while blasting Police Truck. Also it reminded me Escape from L.A. a lot.

I wouldn't call it unique because death stranding 1 exists. Still nice game with cool story
>>
>>735859545
I think the combat guy was one of the only once who didn't leave Konami to join Kojima Productions, that's why combat got worse and somehow they couldn't hire someone with the same talent... it really sucks, especially now with Physint coming up, they got away with Death Stranding as that wasn't combat focused but with a new espionage stealth action game? idk man, that guy who stayed with Konami was one of the few who always had arguments with Kojima and unfortunately they both didn't like each other very much...
>>
Kojima should really let his Dev team write some books about the optimized game codes they put together I haven't seen anybody come close
>>
>>735860291
That's true, but I count both games together in the overall experience you get playing through it. It's unique in that aspect I think. There really isn't anything like it.

Both the graphics and performance of the game were top notch. The game looked like how I imagined games would look in the future as a kid.
One of the things that impressed me the most was how fast you're in the actual game from the moment you press play in Steam. Especially when it looked so good too.
Whatever they did, I'm finding other games look like they're from a previous generation to me now
>>
>>735860425
they do exactly that already and it pisses me off when people say Guerilla created the engine and Kojima Productions is just using it when this couldn't be further from the truth, they work closely together and optimize and make the engine better, Guerilla needs KojiaPro just as much as they need them to make the engine better, both are insanely talented dev teams who push each other

>There was one condition though, that Kojima Productions doesn’t just use the engine, but that we develop the engine together with Guerrilla Games, that it should be a collaborative effort. So we were really blown away by their stance on this and being so open with the engine and we thought “Wow, these are the people we have to work with.”

the fucking engine didn't even had a name before Kojima lol

>It was different from the engine they originally gave us, so we decided we should give this new engine a name. That’s when we came up with the ‘Decima’ name (derived from Dejima – an artificial island in Japan where The Netherlands and Japan would trade during the Edo period). I really feel that with both of us working on this engine we are accomplishing the work at twice the speed and building something really fantastic.

>>735861356
What makes Kojima Productions the most talented dev team we have in this industry isn't just that their games look and run absolutely incredible it's also the speed they get shit done, like they made Death Stranding in only 3 years while having to learn a completely new graphics engine and barely having an office to work in, also huge kudos to Kojima for managing all this, most would have failed

You stick in the muds, don't you understrand? Kojipro games have been improving their gameplay from
DS1 ==> DC ==> DS2 ==> DS2 PC

People need to treat Death Stranding more honestly as a franchise. It's a tech demo, a fun tech demo with some soul and some stupidity, but it's just a big tech demo. Kojima is a lot of things, but unambitious isn't one of them. He's never let a mainline Metal Gear Solid be a simple sequel job, and I doubt he's gonna go into a Metal Gear Liquid and not plan for it to be his next most ambitious project. That's why DS2 leaves a bad taste in some people's mouth, it feels unambitious because it's basically Kojima actually delievering (late) on the promise that was DS1. And DS1 was a rushjob because he needed to prove his company could still make popular games. It's why the moment he finished DS2, he's out promoting OD and Physint. OD being an anthology is just another way to drum up money for Physint. Or maybe I'm just grasping at straws, but Kojima always wants his projects to feel newer than the last.

How is DS2 "actually delivering" on promise that DS1 failed to?
It's the same thing but bigger and more diluted with concessions to people who got filtered by 1. So you get an assault rifle pretty much immediately and are made to do Ubisoft tier "liberate outpost" missions between deliveries.
>>
They kind of ruined the game by making BTs freely visible. Not that they were super hard to detect in 1 but the little gameplay of BB guiding you felt right, it had tension.
>>
>>735860301
See this is what scares me about Physint
>>
>>735867395
DS1 feels too empty and DC + DS2 was Kojima basically admitting that combat needed to be made more common and given more incentive to be used. DS2 is just the complete package gameplay wise while DS1 had a major free update and still wasn't as complete as DS2 was on launch. The example I always point to is the amount of lore dump and text logs in DS1. They have a dictionary in DS2, but it's mostly a notepad for terms and tips. DS1 had emails and messages they expected you to read... to sit down and read messages. In a walking simulator. Made by the guy who created the Codec. Why the fuck weren't these audio logs?!?! If you can't make the audio for every one then just don't include them which is what DS2 had the decency to do.
>>
>>735867395
Yeah. Actually delivering on DS1 would be like
>Sam, Chiral density in your bones is turning them into jelly, you're going to be clumsy as fuck trying to walk over slipper rocks going forward and did I mention it's nothing but a thousand miles of slippery rocks and canyons going forward? Watch your step Sam
>Chirelium nanomachines have also broken the auto-balance on the backpack, you'll have to do it by hand. I'm sorry. Oh, and see that water and nutrition meter up there, Sam? Be sure to keep your canteen full. Actually, our map is breaking in this area. Chiral clouds mean we don't have satellite coverage. You will have to figure out the route yourself. And while we're at it, timefall has intensified, it will now eat into the core HP of your cargo instead of just container health.
>Good luck out there, Sam.

>>
>>735867694
Nah by making them visible, they can make them more aggressive and do different kinds. Now they just need to be fuckable in the next game and the Cycle of Like will be complete.
>>
>>735868124
I don't see how it's any less 'empty'. Large scale and open spaces is something DS2 has (thankfully) retained.
I also don't like the word 'admitting'. Combat being treated more like in any other 3rd person AAA game is a result of reviewers, testers getting filtered by 1 and whining about it relentlessly. If Kojima is admitting something then it's that market forces exist and you have to respect them somewhat. He tried to be a crowd pleaser with this game, it just didn't work AFAIK.
I also didn't mind the emails. More information delivered faster compared to audio logs.
All in all these complaints have nothing to do with any underdelivered 'promises'. If you prefer Death Stranding But Less Mean And More Like Other Girls then that's ok but your choice of words is stupid.
>>
i wish brigands travelled the map instead of just being in one spot and regenerating.
>>
>>735867912
>we can't create something like this
Then why do you have a job?
>>
>>735868890
Listen I guarantee if they had did audio logs:
>1. Everyone would have listened to them at least once
>2. We would have a more overall clear understranding of Death Stranding.
Most people did not understrand DS1, but the real problem there is most people weren't given enough reason to care about understanding it. The lore is interesting, the themes aren't complex at least on the surface level. When people don't even try to care, the problem is on the design, not the playerbase. It's absolutely criminal that Death Stranding refuses to do anything with the huge downtime between orders when it has all these characters, backstories, and lore to fill it up, but they'd rather make Dollman talk about how we have all the cargo we need for the delivery, Sam. DS2 is just DS1.5 when it needed to be DS2.5 in feel. That's why I still consider the series to be a tech demo.
>>
just finished the game, man i loved it, even though ill be honest, i didnt do much of the side quests, except for pekora, i didnt enjoy walking that much on australia, anyway, fuck, i really loved this game and i do feel a bit bad of not doing the side quests before, i usually lose interest post ending, too bad, great game though, i dont think its better than 1, but i loved the fanservice. also, sam is more autistic than ever, the ending dialogue from him is sorta goofy, i hope death stranding 3 is even better than this one.

I don't think making the story as easily understandable as possible for people who don't even really care about it is that important. People who are sufficiently curious to *want* to understand it in the first place will also be willing to read a few emails. DSP won't "get it" no matter what.
>>2. We would have a more overall clear understranding of Death Stranding.
Most definitely not. The game lets out as much as it wants to, Kojima isn't limited by the medium of text lol
Letting downtime (if you really want to call it that) be downtime is a conscious choice. Creative dad wanted a game where navigating naturalistic enviroments is entertaining in itself and IMO he achieved that. So he doesn't feel like occupying you with a podcast at the same time is essential.
Tech demo is something that exists only to showcase some kind tech and I don't think there is that much to show here from tech standpoint alone. There is obviously a deeper intent.

Swords are for Neil and that one peculiar MULE that thought sneaking on you with cattle prod was a good idea. For that I get Dollman whine about killing people when the people he's crying about keep spamming live frag grenades at me.
Also, stock pile on rocket launchers as soon as you get them and spam it at boss fights, which the game makes abundantly clear when they show up, even with BT segments, the game telegraphs that from a mile away, so just walk around with 60+ grenades, blood bags and your own AA manpad arsenal at all times.

The "Codec" here is just as useless as DS1's. In fact, I found those "e-mails" that people didn't read slightly more interesting because they at least showed (in theory) sources that Kojima pulled from for the game.

"Timefall" is explained here, but it's as deep as a puddle in regards to "why are folks under concrete okay, but the outside grows?" They say the "first thing the water hits ages but after that it's regular water" but that still doesn't explain why concrete doesn't crumble/etc. There is numerous holes that an e-mail written by someone that pointed it out to Kojima could've done more than these text-logs do.

Do you guys use the bike to traverse the map or go on foot? I feel like the game takes too much time to award you the carrier blueprint and it almost forces me to use the bike to carry more shit to level up the bunkers. I just got to Australia
>>
>>735859545
>I hope physint actually has gameplay. What a waste of a decade these games were

I'm literally the opposite, if physint doesn't have DS mechanics in it I'm gonna be really fucking disappointed. The climbing anchor would be the coolest shit ever in a stealth action game
>>
>>735879736
The carrier is relatively early into Australia. It is also at the same time you unlock the ability to fast travel with the magellan, so it is good point to start 5 starring shit.
I got the carriers and am now doing Mexico before I go back.
>>
>>735879736
the bike is sam's early game wheelchair, only thing it has going for it much later on is speed
you'll get the truck pretty quickly in australia and it seems like everyone and their mother uses it, but it doesn't really become convenient to use unless you're willing to run the sticky launcher arm or rush to the climbing gloves
going on foot comes back once you've got boost skeleton 3, stabilizer 3, jump ramps, carriers, and ziplines
at that point going on foot can actually be MUCH faster than using any vehicle
>>
>>735879924
Just got to australia, when abouts do you start getting the skeleton frames?
>>
>>735880036
the very first observatory gives you combat skeleton, which is really only good to begin to get the extra weight capacity and stability
boost skeleton is at the dowser, which is quite a ways down the line
>>
>>735879736
in early game bike in mexico because the map is just right for it and picking up chiralium and lost cargo without stopping is massively convenient. you can stack up the cargo with early game battle skeletons and the bike won't care, just tie your pack up with a strand. however that early you'll run out of standard orders if you're planning to 5 star mexico.

I noticed that I could manually drop from the monorail as I ride with cargo but there's no way to send the cargo that way without another major distributor/mine stop.
Is it just something the game sends me to later? I'm at the northern research base just after Fragile dumps the worst name I've heard in a Kojima game thus far. The fight before hearing it was sick, though.

I just saw onlinefix was released for this (epic/steam shit)

do I bother with this? I defo don't feel like paying 80 euros for a port, just wondering if there's actual players on this instead of like 4 faggot pirates who bothered to go through the installation mess
>>
>>735887493
I manually chose to hide other player buildings but was happily surprised to find other players still complete my entrusted deliveries, give me likes for things I build, and contribute to building highways which require a shitpile of resources.
Neat.
>>
>>735887661
how many players are there on the cracked version? I don't think I understand - it doesn't use DS servers, but some free game on epic that's only used by pirates?
>>
>>735887723
Oh I misunderstood. I bought the steam version ages ago and have only started it recently on official servers. I couldn't tell you how pirate servers are but honestly you can do the whole thing single player and still have a great time. Tbf this game scratches my autism but I like being self reliant. Like I said some things require lots of resources but this game is extremely generous with supplies, and likes dont really matter that much.
My advice is give it an honest shot, if you enjoy it great, if not its all good.
This game won't suit everyone's tastes

Reedus, Seydoux, and Fanning (oh and HI RAINY!) were the 4 that did their voice-acting. I think even Mads and Tommy did in 1. But George and Refen didn't.

So they could get them to redo motion capture or voices, easily.

I think the real answer is just that Reedus plays the character as he did Daryl: Some loner that people thought was badass, so he tries to be "stoic" but it comes off robotic here.

At least his crying here was better than the Walking Dead.

>The balloon bt area was good but not respawning for a while
They respawn at night AFAIK. Not in massive numbers, but there is generally 2-3 in those areas. You can get 6 if you give it a bit. So I think if you sleep in the shelters once you 5-star them you can pass time 2-3 days (in-game) and go out to find six.

Not that it matters since any loud noises will cause them to run, so you're better off just grenading them twice and getting 2-3 of them.

Cases like this also happened back on PS5. There's an implementation problem.
I think it's the system's fault, like bridge links, like aid request, they don't function as expected.
Even back in DS1 the player links didn't work that well.

are the boss fights at the 'to the wilder' also bruteforceable? Went with brutal as didn't want to deal with bosses and planned to just lower difficulty for boss fights, but if you can just 'wake up' and continue might need to restart on wilder, deliveries and bandits on brutal are kinda easy

I assume respawns work just like they do on normal, but bosses mostly oneshot you and have a ton of health. If you are playing offline you may run out of ammo if you aren't prepared.

there's an APAS perk that automatically places aid requests for players, if you see shit like horizontal travel next to a river, fieldwear request right ouside of a shelter, weapon request right outside of an enemy camp, or materials request outside of a paver/tracklayer, chances are it was autogenerated as they drove past

the entire system is fucking retarded, at most you should be looking for very isolated aid requests in the middle of nowhere, and even they seem to last forever so who knows if the person gets it when they need it
I just put pizza chef shoes in the fieldwear requests for a free 200+ likes from the retard that picks it up

I'm like 99% certain the one to actually blame for that is god of war, and kojima seeing how they handled Mimir and saying to himself "this was my idea, I thought of it first...I will call it...strand-pocket-narrator..."

Death Stranding is honestly one of my favorite games of all time, so I am enjoying DS2, but it honestly feels like a worse game than 1. The atmosphere of the first one is vastly superior, and it focused more on traversal.
For some reason 2 just decided to double down on the mediocre combat which wasn’t the strongpoint of 1.

I know Pekora is kind of a meme but I do think if there was an apocalyptic event where a lot of people just had 3D printed shelters scattered around the world and they had to interact with random unknown outsiders, I'm pretty sure WAY more of them would be using some sort of avatar instead of their real scans. Like at least some bitmoji thing instead of just "hey here's exactly how I look in person thanks random guy at my doorstep".

If Kojima was younger I'm 100% sure at least one of the preppers would greet you in a furry VRchat rig.
Imagine you arrive at "the nuclear scientist" and pic related greets you

What do you like about combat and what difficulty are you on? Because on wilder going guns blazing didn't feel like an option even in Mexico, enemies just did too much damage and I either stealth killed most/all of them or cheesed them around corners

I played DS1 and went with Brutal because I was afraid that To the wilder would be stupid difficulty with bosses and elite enemies one shotting you, making it very frustating and not that rewarding. I was right about that according to steam forums, so I'll keep it as is. It's still not easy, on brutal you can get slapped if you're not careful but I'd imagine I'd be doing WAY less combat if I was on TTW because I'm dogshit at stealth.

I like the combat because its very satisfying and you have tons of weapons and tools to use. Grenades, all sorts of guns, a lot of melee weapons, dodging, making enemies lose track of you with smoke and stealth, dropkicking and mobility, vehicles. All of it topped of with really fun animations and the combat gloves are sick to look at in action. It feels like the game's controls just... happen to fit perfectly to let you do this crazy action combat without compromising everything else you can do. You can go slow AND fast when you need to.
>>
>>735925981
the moment you get vehicles and options that make her go happy you basically dont need to look at her anymore. Its not DS1 where she's way more important because she can die easily if you fuck up in succession. Here she just reminds you she exists when she starts crying but you can just ignore it because like most things you do make her happy again so whatever

I don't mean gameplay wise mechanics, I mean just interact with her while roaming around doing nothing. I remember I would make a point to stop every moment or so to sooth and wiggle her around even if she was ok, I never killed anyone in the first game (intentionally) because I genuinely didn't want to upset her.
Now I just don't care anymore, she's not there anymore.

>I was afraid that To the wilder would be stupid difficulty with bosses and elite enemies one shotting you
That is correct. I finished the story earlier today and everything from getting to terminal fort knot to the final fights left me mentally exhausted. Some fights are fine on TTW while others can be cock and balls torture. I expected it to be like DS1 hardest difficulty, which was fine to me. I would zoom into MULE and terrorist camps beating everyone up without using stealth, while danger was still present I wasn't at risk of getting one tapped unless I made a retarded mistake. In DS2 I don't even attempt it anymore because I know it'll only be frustration. I enjoy sniping so there's at least that, but the lack of lethal sniper rifle greatly saddens me.

How's the game for those running at 1080p with rtx 4060/70? Is the performance great?
>>
>>735916171
In today's scenario a player is met with a terrible cliff utterly barring his way. He can:
- Set up a couple of ropes.
- Build a very long ladder.
- Build a chiral bridge, ziplines, a jump ramp, a cannon.
- Use a sticky gun to pull his packages one at a time or do it by hand.
- Drop his backpack to perform any of the above with ease.
- Rely on a glide jetpack. Throw the packages and take the damage.
- Find a post box to fabricate a ladder if by miracle he doesn't have any tools.
- Create a tool request and wait for tools to magically appear right here and there.
- Even porters out in the wild will give him a pack of ropes for free.

The idea of a player not being able to perform one of these things is downright unrealistic.
What is this psychosis? This political statement is too extremist for me, i don't follow.

I've played on 1080p, on a 12600k/5070. Managed to get 70 to 80 with everyone on Ultra and RT on High. With framegen that goes to 120 flat, with non-noticeable delay or anything.
You might get 60 to 70, try lowering or removing RT, it takes a lot of frame to have it on. which doesn't make a ridiculous effect on game, since the game has phenomenal baked lighting already.

(Not spoiler cause its the near the beginning of the game) I still don't understand why Charlie taking on Diehardmans voice was supposed to make Sam trust Charlie. That'd be like me saying to any of you "Oh you can't trust me? How about I talk in falsetto and pretend to be your mother?" My theory that keeps getting reinforced is that Sam has brain damage from being repatriated so many times, making him mentally retarded. And they sent Dollman along with him too. Like a some Of Mice and Men situation.
>Dollman? Dollman? Tell me 'bout the rabbits Dollman
