Most gamers 86% buy 0-4 new games a year and then go back to their live service slop of choice.If you want to make it as an indie dev and you're not making a 9/10+ game, you need to cater to the type of gamer that buys 20+ games a year. Turns out they have preferences that don't always align with your typical core gamer. The 'steam expert' has done a decent job doing data science to find those audiences./v/ having standards has blinded them to how most developers make their money. The industry is so much worse than you could ever possibly imagine.

I like to call them movie-ticket gamers.The only other group you can really cater to as an indie is hyper specific niches that require you to be involved a small but starved community for 10+ years that nobody else has heard of.
