I've mainly been trying out teams where everything is the same typing. It's been kind of fun, even if dying to anything with so much as Fire Fang got annoying. At least the Water/Psychic team had Slowking and Slowbro where I could keep switching for Regenerator healing.

Many of the water mons like Cloyster, Starmie, Slowbro and Gyarados all stand out in their own way and offer good options for any team. You get good fossils, the safari zone has a wide selection, and most other types are decently covered if you want to use them.
