>>735914138RetroAchievements are either:>completely pointless filler ("Complete level 1. Complete level 2.") bing bing wahoo points>masochistic lunatic content that nobody can or would at least want to do ("Complete the final level with no power-ups, without taking damage, within 54 seconds (0.001% completion rate)")>actually good achievements which encourage thorough exploration of the game and its mechanics, and are reasonably difficultDonkey Kong Country (1-3) and Super Mario World are the pinnacle of the site's sets. Great challenges, even learned new things in games I'd played a dozen times each.
>>735914138the people who makes these are mentally ill and have no clue what makes a good achievement.
>>735914768Thankfully these days most of the masochism sets have been turned into optional subsets, and boring main sets are usually revamped if the game is at least somewhat popularI remember one of the Lemmings games had literally just one guy who had managed to do some (not even all) of its achievements, because the scores required were world record-tier.
>>735915182Shmup cheevos exposed a lot of cheaters on that site. Dodonpachi Daioujou White Label 2-ALL, Ketsui Ura 2-ALL and Tatsujin Oh 2-ALL in one single credit isn't something you go for while you only care about fake leaderboard points. Even the most hardcore shmup players out there have trouble finishing these games, so it doesn't need a big brain to figure out that people who jump from game to game looking for easy points could barely clear the first loop of these games.

>>735917920Yeah, but some players obvisouly cheated, because you can check their profile and easily see that they have countless cheevos for many obscure games, since they ultimate goal is to get the points from the cheevos. Also, the lack of proof like youtube video or stream doesn't help at all (unlike Pearl who has everything archived on his yt channel).

>>735914138Save states ruined emulation as a concept and RA soft fixes it.
>>735918675would be based if fast forward was banned too but yea banning save states removes it out of your mind. i almost never used it before but there were rare instances where i used them as a back up and felt bad about after.
>>735918803There probably needs to be a level above hardcore that gets rid of ff but I think there was a good reason for why FF was allowed and I forgot but I might've just hallucinated that.

I'm not arguing for it to be changed, if so i wouldn't do that on /v/, the one place that doesn't even like the website. I'd do it in their Discord or forum or whatever. I'm just saying personally i think Fast Forward doesn't fit into a mode called Hardcore that bans other features that make games easier through emu features. If FF was banned, i think more people would play better games rather than fast forward through bad ones.

>>735920654>i think more people would play better games rather than fast forward through bad ones. All great games have movie game animations. Every 3D Mario has awful animations every time you collect stars and boring auto scroller levels. Crash Bandicoot forces you to watch Crash dispensing the gems he collected at the end of every level. Ocarina of Time has unskippable cutscenes and lengthy treasure chest opening animations. Fast forward should be a native feature of every game, especially modern ones.
>>73592078460 FPS, yes. Widescreen, no, atleast i don't see why.60 FPS breaks many games and as a result many of their leaderboards.>theres no skill involvedbut it takes effort none the less.>fast forward is basically useless in any action, racing, sports, etc anywaybut it's extremly useful in RPGs. so much so that it trivializes oldschool challenges that received sets due to being oldschool challenges.shit like reaching lvl 100 on Destiny Islands in KH1, or clearing the Superbosses in FFX in an NSG run. these types of sets only exist BECAUSE they take a huge amount of effort on regular hardware. the whole challenge comes from it being a monumental grind. FF makes these pointless to even exist. Same goes for JRPGs at a more fundamental level in general though. If you can just be lvl 50 before the first boss in a JRPG by playing at x1000 speed and holding down a turbo button. It breaks the entire game in a way that would never be an issue on original hardware.I understand the value of skipping load times with it or boring grinds because you have a job and wife, but it does have a much bigger impact than people give it credit. I'm okay with it being the way it is, i just wouldn't handle it this way personally.

Their RNG-based behavior in general can lead to many situations that can fuck you pretty bad. The only backfire with something like this is when there's a cookie you can't get without backtracking with some new upgrade, so you think you can get everything the first time you get to an area, but you actually can't. >>735914138Alright if you look over the list before you commit to it, terrible if you randomly decide to start a game with it. Realistically you will not complete or even do most lists half way because they require you to have been guide gaming from the start or having put a bunch of restrictions on yourself at the start which is why looking them over before you start them is a wise idea. They've gotten better about demoting a lot of nonsense achievements but they're still not there yet and need to slam the hammer down more on devs who add in stuff like speedrun achievements (Just make them a subset for the autists who want to memorize routes), clamping down on how many achievements a game can even have (If it's more than 60 they're out of their mind even if they're using it as a checklist), and damageless/restriction achievements that aren't for games that are an hour long. Mega Man Legends 2's list is still complete ass because half of the list hasn't been shoved into a subset.https://retroachievements.org/game/11262The quality is all over the place for the site's lists and it doesn't feel like a lot of the quality control is enforced, but there's some good lists around. I just wish these people would learn to rein it in on their requirements at times and do more easter egg stuff or reasonable challenges instead of shooting someone while punching yourself in the throat while Neptune is in retrograde on a Thursday.>>735932336>Something about his delusion makes it admirableHe's doing it to gain views. Prior to the age thing he used to end every video with a random noise to get people to comment about said random noise so that he'd get pushed on the algorithm and decided rage baiting the age thing was another good way to get that to happen.

>>735931403Certain emulators have an add-on that takes a look at the memory while the game's running and looks for certain values in certain areas as you're playing. When it matches with an achievement (like getting to a certain level in an RPG), you receive that corresponding achievement. RetroArch is the most well-known one.
>>735931403on a technical level, you use an emulator that has a valid api key for their integration of the retroachievements library (i.e. one that is vetted and approved by the retroachievements team themselves). then, by matching the hash of the rom being executed to an achievement set on the retroachievements servers, the emulator can download the corresponding set. the sets are developed by analyzing the game's memory as it is being played, setting up enough conditions to where even if we don't have source access to these games that the achievements can only by coincidence pop under the exact right condition of the achievement's descriptor.from a ux perspective, it's seamless. log in to retroachievements through a supported emulator, play the most commonly available rom of your favourite game, and see if the emulator pops a notif letting you know it has a set upon playing. from there, it's per-emulator how you'll be told about the achievements but most are extremely similar.this whole system allows a healthy mix of emu devs getting trustable support for the system and retroachievements as a service still having full authority over the legitimacy of any user's achievements.

I'm not a zoomie but my enjoyment of Pokémon went through the roof when I discovered the Fastforward feature. Just being able to tap a button to skip the longass fucking animations occasionally was amazing, because holy shit in Gen 1 especially I swear it sometimes takes like 20 seconds for a healthbar to drain after a crit, it's insanely slow.I went from quietly despising the series to autistically putting in maybe 400 hours into gens 1 - 3.But I know I will never enjoy the newer games, because I will have to sit through everything.
>>735966305glad i'm not like this and can enjoy slower paced vidyaalso been grinding gen 1-3 (with RA) but no speed upkinda fell off because i was intimidated by the Emerald post game but i'll get back to iti use glitches to speed up the level grinds though and because i think they're fun to mess with

>>735966535I nearly exclusively play extremely tedious, grindy, lengthy games, but it's something about Pokémon specifically that irked me. It feels just pointlessly slow at times.Gen 4 is the gen I didn't play, but it's the only one I could find a video for, and it shows what I mean. 30 seconds for a fucking health bar to drain after the move was used.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gCvQiFUyC4
>>735966904Platinum fixes this, Diamond and Pearl are known for this. The wild thing is that people came up with an ACE method to speed the games up so that the bars drain faster. Gen 4 is when i grew out of Pokemon but i do look forward to going through Platinum for the first time with RA and see if i missed out or still bores me.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMsGowDCVVE
>>735967164>arbitrary code execution just to make the game not play slow as ballslelI might play it through RA one day too, I was a little put off by the idea of DS emulation, sounded clunky. But I'm sure I'll want to play some more one day, and I've done all the (main) gen 1-3 sets I think. Even did a Professor Oak challenge (kind of regret that, super boring)
>>735967518>Even did a Professor Oak challenge (kind of regret that, super boring)I avoid these, the first one i'm doing is for Pokemon Rumble because i feel like the game lends itself well to the challenge. Would ruin the playthrough for me in regular Pokemon games though. For DS emulation it would be nice to have a Thor but i'm holding out until they add 3DS support to RA and maybe new dual screen chinkhelds come out. I do a lot on my PC anyway but it has been nice to play through gen 1-3 on my RG35XX Plus aswell. If you just play on your PC i don't think DS is any more clunky than GBC/GBA though.
>>735967737>If you just play on your PC i don't think DS is any more clunky than GBC/GBA thoughProbably not, I heard something similar a while back, I guess the game didn't actually use the touchscreen all that much so usual emulation with a gamepad is fine.I played maybe half of my Pokemon on my Vita, that worked great, love that thing.
>>735967518>>735967164platinum's really good imo, it's probably my second favorite pokemon game after bw2. it still kinda slow and has 8! hms to get around though. the RA set allows playing with a 60fps battle patch so the speed thing is kinda negatedthe sets still kind of funny >gen 4 frontier (2 less facilities than gen 3, but the factory in particular needs 49 straight wins, an entire extra set over emerald's required 42, probably the hardest facility in the entire series)>munchlax (1% chance to spawn on 4/26 honey trees around sinnoh after 6 hours of waiting; the 4 trees are determined by your tid and sid)

>>7359724865 and 6 are extremely good, but they are very different. 5 is much more of a linear narrative adventure, while six is much more open ended and has multiple phases of "explore and find where to go next." Also, six has an extensive class system (expansion of 3), while five has set characters (like 4). 5 is like an expansion of 4, while 6 is an expansion of 3 (as is 7). People tend to like 5 more but they're both excellent for different reasons

>>735974250That one's not that bad if you have the knowledge. >>735974593I feel like it's more difficult to make a good easy level than a good hard level. The mario team is great at it, I'm glad I never got amazing at 2d mario because I can still enjoy everything that they have put out
>>735974489cheevo devs use a memory inspector to track the state of individual addresses as they play. track enough addresses and notice enough of a pattern, eventually you can ensure that a condition is met that reflects any possible cheevo description. every single of the millions upon millions of addresses in an average game's memory represents something unique to the lowest level of compilation, most in isolation completely meaningless without several dozen others in combination to give context. i have absolutely no idea how people have the patience to make 1 cheevo let alone dozens for a set since it requires reverse engineering which is something people usually get paid a good salary to do commercially as a day job.
>>735974489it basically looks at the game's RAM which is exposed by the emulator as you play, if the right values change and the achievement was coded properly, it unlocks and gets sent to the server
>>735974624Who is this Xkeeper tranny and what's their relationship to Scott?
>>735974593I think the problem is that people who make hacks are going to have played the base game too much, so it's way too easy for them.
>>735974769Because you're putting way more thought into it and a huge majority of sets that are made do NOT reverse engineer shit, they access memories and flag hex values which almost any TAS-usable emulator will allow you to do freely. It's very easy to consistently open a game, get to a specific point, achieve something, check flags, rewind, check what changed. It's monotonous more than difficult. Now, admittedly, I haven't done PS2 or wii sets so maybe they're different, but I've done a handful of JRPG sets on PS1 for some less popular titles, and around 30 sets for N64, SNES, and genesis altogether. It's REALLY not difficult and 0 programming knowledge is necessary.
>>735974624yup, community full of limp wristed faggots n trannies>>735974839xkeeper is the admin of tcrf. he joined like a year ago and did nothing but complain. No gaming. Ofc Scott was barely there anyway and just let the mods run the site so not like he gave a fuck. Then the Clover shenanigans happened and Scott decided to get off his ass...not really
>>735975037but the addresses have no meaning without prior documentation? even if you used a tracker to identify an address from a history of values it would've had, you've still got to do that at least a few times per cheevo to get it even partially functional, a broken cheevo can ruin an entire set for most. regardless, if it's really as easy as you say then i'd love to be enlightened, i've wanted to be a cheevo dev for a few sets for a long time now but figured i'd never have the time.
>>735974624>talking about xkeeper was straight-up banned in the serverWhy are you lying? Half the time I check that server there is a specific deranged retard raving about "xqueefer"
>>735975152>no meaningand?Again, if you don't know how it works I understand why it might seem daunting, it really isn't.You capture a hex value you expect has value. In most games this involves you sitting in the starting area or first level, and fucking around, see what changes in the visible memory when you, take damage, collect coins/collectibles, jump, kill an enemy, get a powerup, etc etc. SMB1 is the best example of this, it's extremely well documented, you can find someone's code notes, pull them up and examine for yourself. That's why I said it's monotonous, it's not hard, you just have to fucking sit there. It's REALLY rare for even games as far as gen 5 to have any sort of interconnectivity between flags, and you're not checking specifically for one flag, typically, you're adding a specific retroachievement flag that points to the hex value you're wanting to mark for a cheevo. Here's a really good real world example:https://docs.retroachievements.org/developer-docs/real-examples/using-hit-counts-as-a-timer.htmlYou spend maybe 5 minutes hunting live memory to figure out which value corresponds to speed, have it capture once a frame and you'll see it's one of the VERY few that changes each time, then stops. You denote "this is speed" for future reference, bookmark it.then, pause, to check which value denotes the pause screen being up (easier since the rest of memory usually freezes in the back), denote that as pause, then add simple logic commands "if game = paused, reset the achievement run", "if speed under 300, reset achievement run". If neither of those reset conditions are hit, you get the cheevo at the end. It's REALLY monotonous and boring, you're sitting staring at memory for hours at a time, that's why they can take weeks or months. Sometimes sets get fucked up, but that's why they test them (usually) before approval. That's on the testers not catching fringe cases.
how do you guys share emulator saves between devices? I like to switch between my pc and my tv and it's a bit of a pain to do it manually each time
>>735975795since you're here and clearly have knowledge on all this i do have a question which i never got answered a year or two ago: what do you do about when a cheevo needs to track an insantiated object? it's just going to add to the heap with whatever section of memory is available, so it's going to be inconsistent between people's playthroughs. how does that line up with the underlying "rules" of a cheevo? for example, if you wanted a cheevo for a character's jump height being 3 times the normal amount and that depended on reading the character's y velocity at some point, then that'd be a part of the character's information which is instantiated *however* in the original source code to *anywhere* in memory that will change from session to session.
>>735975998i do it manually between PC and my chinkheld but i use Syncthing to sync between PC and Steam Deck
>>735971041>tfw 30 minutes in and my best mudkip manip so far was off by 1 frameIt's over...
>>735975152>i've wanted to be a cheevo dev for a few sets for a long time now but figured i'd never have the time.Just to echo what the other anon said, it is really tedious but if you're passionate about the game you'll get there eventually.I only tried my hand at it once and while it was an unlicensed NES game so the memory searching didn't take as long, I still haven't played the game again in years. If you're truly passionate about a game though, the Jr dev program has come a long way and if you want to make a set a reality, they'll get you there. It does explain to me why there are Professor Oak Challenge sets though. An incredibly tedious grinding set by people who do incredibly tedious work on game memory.
>>735976651there's a few games i know for a fact i'd care about enough as maybe the only guy on earth to do so, i have a full time job so i doubt i'd be able to do the digging constantly but if it's really just a matter of "it is very easy but takes forever" then i could carve out time when i'm bored like it's a zen activity, i love repetitive things that build to a bigger goal.
>>735976612make sure you are adjusting the timer based on how far off you are, guessing you are already doing this anyway.if you can hit 1f off then you're bound to get it soonyour timer is set properly if you consistently miss it by 1-2 frames
>>735975998That's why you bookmark the memory. The memory viewer for RA is decent enough. It's not MIPS+ or Lunar level, but for what it needs to do it's very easy to use.You can see in this image, 1 is the search (if you're working on a known game with romhacks, you can search up specific values), 2 is the filter for comparisons, so you can hold a value then have it constantly compared. 3 is the results of the filtering in 2. Coloration can show different effects, such as a value that did not match in a prior window of filtering, currently matching (showing that it was a value that changed to the one you're looking for, meaning it may be relevant to any recent actions taken).4 is notes and bookmarks, pretty self explanitory, you can add notes to values to keep track later. 5 is direct browsing memory. For your example, you're not looking so deep as to find velocity in code. You can find the velocity via hex if yo uwanted but if the goal is "hit a jump 3x the character's normal height" you would be looking for a height value, and when that triggers, hit it. You'd add in conditions like "if y value didn't start at 0, reset (to stop people jumping off of a roof). Here's a value I actually helped figure out, for suikoden:https://docs.retroachievements.org/developer-docs/real-examples/using-add-source-and-deltas-for-collectibles-and-similar-achievements.htmlSo, the way we handle it in JRPGs because sequence breaking is a not too cunommon thing, is to ensure that the values we want leading up to the cheevo pop being where they should be. We check for not 10 collectibles, but 9, and then ensure that the tenth being given is legitimate (as in, we check the flags tripped are all where they should be rather than just the 10th from a skip). In your scenario we would be setting bitflags for Y value 0 on the ground (in memory, so whatever the hex would be), making sure they have an item, if they should, etc, before they're eligible.
>>735976818fucking char limit reeeeAfter those flags are met, to ensure someone's not cheesing it somehow, they can then get the cheevo. The information isn't locked away somewhere, even if it's not being called on actively, it's almost always stored in the memory.
>>735976904FUCKING forgetful shitthis is the code notes for SMB1.You can see because they're decently marked, they track the value all the way. I'm not sure how deep you think the values are going when they should just be 'stuck in the back' but they're always visible even if not currently running or replaced with something else. That's why most tests aren't game-wide challenges unless they're things like hit counts or kill counts. Specific tasks are usually relegated to a level because it's just easier to set up.
>>735976818can i use something like this to figure out how many i-frames or parry frames a move has in an action game? i'd like to have that ability but idk how to see values like that in a game
>>735977126Memory viewer? Yeah, that's how people on dustloop would find that info back in the day. rip through MAME with memory viewers and play SF3 and hftf. The 'difficult' part is finding the values which is more just monotony and sitting in one spot, getting hit, rewinding, getting hit, rewinding, until you find which value changing is specifically your hp, your score, your timer, etc, after that you can test which values trip over the next half second of invuln or parrying then end the same time, rewind, double check, etc. It's not an art, it's a science. A very boring science.
>>735977293>that's how people on dustloop would find that info back in the daywhy back in the day? what changed? i mostly need it for PS2 games
>>735977437Well nowadays we datamine, there are UE unpackers, that information is usually MUCH more accessible, and devs usually have frame data visible out the getgoI have absolutely 0 experience with ps2 or wii besides dipping a toe in to help people with logic flags, so I can't give you an answer in good faith for your case, sorry anon.In theory though, it should work the same, but the games are typically much more complex than the stuff I'm used to. You lose nothing but time by testing it yourself, if the game you're interested in has easily save-stateable spots to check, give the cheevo dev build a shot (or use a memory viewer with any version of pcsx2)
>devs are hereExplain to me what the process is for deciding points? It seems all over the place and its easy to spot now with the average mastery times. You can get a game with a 4 hour mastery and 400 points and then on the other side of it you get a 50 hour game with 400 points. Why is it like this?
>>735976073i decided to do my own research because now i'm curious, the answer was simpler than i thought.tl;dr fundamentally any instantiated object is in a chain of pointers where at least one pointer is static, you have to re-run sessions of the game until you find the pointer to a pointer that isn't changing, then you can work backwards to the original value you actually wanted by using offsets from that pointer since of course the offsets will be baked in at compile-time based on structs defined at the high-level pre-compile. still, i can't imagine figuring out these unchanging offsets is anything short of incredibly slow.
>>735976073sometimes you can find stable pointers to data like that. that's when things get more advanced, especially if there's pointer chains, but it can often be done. there's a guide to it here aimed at RA developershttps://suxin.space/notes/tracking-down-playstation-pointers-using-debuggers-ghidra/
>>735977640points are SUPPOSED to be scaled to length of game, amount of achievements, difficulty of achievements, and more like thathttps://docs.retroachievements.org/developer-docs/achievement-scoring.html#factors-to-consider-while-scoring-achievementsIt's up to the set creator to determine, they get to pick how it's scored, and then the site owners will say "hey this seems like too much, tone it down" (but they'll never recommend you increase because they're stupid). It's unfortunately just how it goes.A lot of people have started complaining since RA got more popular, about how JRPG sets give "Too many" points, and have "too many" achievements, so they've asked us jrpg devs to stop doing so many, which leads to smaller sets, more novelty sets/bonus sets, etc.
>>735977873>>735977640oh also yeah I forgot to mention many older sets, as seen on that page were limited to 400pt caps. That's why you'll see the 400 a lot. Modern ones, not so much.Ask for someone to reconsider an old set, they may touch it up.
>>735977873Even though I like JRPGs, I do think they're quite inefficient for getting RA points.
>>735977975They are, because at least for my little clique (FF, suikoden, DQ mainlines [and mystic quest cause FUCK YOU it is a mainline ff suck a dick]) it's about showing off the games and fun shit in them, less so about the points, the points were originally going to be an actual currency where top earners could redeem cool shit or have higher weight in voting for new sets etc etc etc, stuff that never actually happened.
>>735977612i tried the memory viewer in PCSX2 before but i had no clue what i was doing and gave upi'm probably too retarded for thisi just really want to gather frame data for non fighting game stuff and while start up frames and stuff are easy to see, anything under the hood idk how to tackleif a game was ported/remastered to Steam could that make it easier?
>>735978172depends what engine it's made in. unity, UE? yeah, those are very easy to crack open and view. Memory is literally just a really long game of match. do action, check value. Rewind, check value, do action, check value, rewind, check value, eventually you find a value that changes in a way you want, so you bookmark it, and try a different action, check value, rewind, check value, etc etc until you've locked down it's the value you want/need, then you can tap it in any way you'd like.
>>735978049I mean, they are technically used to grant you more set requests, they're just not a spendable currency.
>>735978332Yeah but you also get those if the admins/mods like you or your requests are "regularly requested by the community". The lofty ideas were like, 10,000 points = $10 amazon gift card, lmao. they wanted it to be gamerscore.
>>735978391I can only imagine the amount of fake accounts set up to automate obtaining that via those modified Linux emulators to exploit that if it ever came to be.
>>735977873Thanks. I find it interesting you mention JRPG sets giving too many points because thats exactly what I think sucks ass for time spent to points ratio. JRPGs typically have some autistic as hell crap that can easily go into the double digits of hours for a single cheevo, and/or constant worrying with obtuse missables you only found out you missed it 20 hours later after the fact, or lol some play this entire 40 hour game twice so you can do it on hard mode because you can't do it on your first playthrough. I feel time wasted on technically easy but extremely long challenges are not valued as much as if having the patience to do it can't be a challenge itself.
>>735978824>or lol some play this entire 40 hour game twice so you can do it on hard mode because you can't do it on your first playthroughYou can use saves that have such a mode unlocked as long as said save doesn't unlock other achievements and you have to start from a fresh save. It's a grey area and more up to if people feel it's cheating which, from the games I've seen that allow it, most people are fine with it especially if it was added in a revision.
most points i've gained in a single day was 1100 and it was all from the same game but i won't say which one so they don't nerf it and steal my points
>>735978768It took about 75 of the achievement set makers threatening to quit if they did it for them to realize "oh yeah it could be very easily manipulated".Getting them to make it something for fun rather than a paid service was a longgggggg ordeal. Covid really helped. I'm sure they're still working on finding a way to make 'membership' again.>>735978824yeah, there's a big divide on titles made 2019 and earlier, and those after. earlier, you have the 400pt cap so JRPGs that take 500 lightyears to finish give you the same amount of points as twinbee. Nowadays we still try to keep the sets on the lower end, with a 2k cap at most.
>>735978926 i was planning on using someone else's save to unlock Hard mode in Golden Sun The Lost Age because i wasn't even aware of a Hard Mode existing and already 100%'d Normal before having an acc on RA
>>735914138what's with zoomers and cheevos?
>>735914138>finish 999 missions>get 999999999 credits>get all weapons
>>735979073What's wrong with them?
>>735979104>he hasn't cleared 999 missions yetwhat are you, some kind of casual fag?
>>735930769>one of my levels got an achievementepic thank you
>>73597907399% of the users on that site are millennial trannies or sois that make "CRASH 3 ACHIEVEMENTS NEARLY BROKE ME" youtube videos replaying games from their childhood doe
Trannyware
>>735978939It's over when wes makes it so you can sort by mastery time on the game list page, beat time sorting is helpful enough as it is but it will be beyond obvious when you can sort by mastery time and I hope it means people might care a bit more to balance it out in both directions.
>>735914138tranny-coded
>>735979231okay sure the users are fags, but what's wrong the achievements?
>>735930843The game literally marks it for you too.
>>735979243points unlocked by players being rewarded to the dev aswell is a funny way to encourage devs to inflate their awarded points
>>735979231Those Youtube videos drive me insane. All achievement hunting videos drive me insane because they're always acting like some of the easiest achievements out there are mind numbingly broken.>BORDERLANDS ACHIEVEMENT LIST ALMOST BROKE ME!>Hour long video.>When you can cheese Crawmerax, only have to get to level 10 with each character, and the worst part about it is the Moxxi DLC which you can fairly easily solo even with awful gear.I didn't even have legendary gear when I 100%ed it because I don't like Diablo Loot or farming, I just used garbage I had and did it on the 360 without issue. I have no idea what these Youtubers are smoking.
>>735979407I find there being a dev leaderboard is wack as is. Like I get why its there - to encourage devs to crank out sets. Yet due to this you have people making slop for games they have 0 interest in.
>>735979623clickbait. They're smoking clickbait, getting engagement, making money and getting subscribers off of playing it up.That's literally why anyone makes videos. Are you stupid or something?
>>735979659i am immediately reminded of the top scarer board from monsters inc. and randall's attitude towards it being a driving antagonistic force for the film LOL
>>735979745The thing is that in the videos themselves they always act like it was some arduous journey and complain about the most mundane things leading me to think it's not clickbait at all and instead their actual opinions because they're super invested in their storytelling to complain about mundane stuff you'd only know if 100%ing them.
>>735979819It's for clickbait and engagementif you think clickbait stops at the click, you're about 20 years behind on how youtube works. CTR is the first step in engagement. watch time is the next, new user engagement (not subscribed) is the next, subscriber engagement is the last.
>>735979659I also don't understand why they dev slop and then justify the 50 point badge by saying, just play slop. Some people are quite strange on there but whatever, i still love RA over all. I'd still be emulating old shit without it, but it's nice to have this extra incentive and objectives.
>>735979659Same thing happens with the icon gauntlet by rewarding users for that. I need to stop checking that channel it is honestly infuriating seeing someone trying to push their generic face close up, drop shadow, border, etc icon over something unique that a game currently has. Especially by people who obviously do not fucking play the game and have no intention to.Even better when the original icon wins and then the dude is back at trying to push his shit again with slight edits 2 days later. Or if the original icon doesn't have it, they give it a drop shadow, border, etc and it wins by a landslide
>>735979819I think it's just exaggeration, like how YouTubers were acting like "AHHHH SLENDERMAN SO SCARY" 15 years ago.
>>735980783Every icon change on my wall has either been a downgrade or almost no change. My favorite game was changed without me being even aware of a poll and i prefered the old one. The new one isn't terrible but meh
>>735981186yeah, it's retarded, they need more on-site featuresjust off the top of my head>all community polls are held on their shitcord lol>if someone follows you or comments on a game feed you're 'subscribed' to, the notification is emailed to you, nothing on the little bell icon next to your username on the site
>>735981376It is annoying how much RA stuff is locked behind Discord. I've never used Discord, and the "You WILL verify your age" shit I've been hearing lately makes me want to use it even less.
>>735981775Until a competitor comes out, it's hit the event horizon like skype did where everyone uses it and you WILL be left out of stuff by not using it. Just unfortunately part of reality.
>>735981834it wasn't nearly as bad with Skype because it was just a messaging program, discord is used for everything
>>735981935Skype was used for everything too, I'm guessing you weren't really involved in any communities at that point. Tons and tons of games and hacks were lost to that void because they uploaded in skype gcs.
>>735982286i guess my interests shifted a lot since then so maybe i just notice it more. all we used it for in the early 2010s was to chat and call. i never had to worry about joining some stranger's skype to download the latest patch or some shit
>>735980783I usually agree with the voting outcome like 90% of the time.
Give me some easy feel good sets, I've already done the Spyros except for new beginning
>>735982489You abso-tively did for pretty much any non-steam MP title. Every emulator's kailerra client was updated almost exclusively through IRC or skype group chats, and IRC was dead as shit by 2010.
>>735982595>I've already done the SpyrosPlay another Spyro game.
>>735982595Muscle March with a Wiimote and Nunchuck!!Or DQ1 i guess...
>>735982856I do have that downloaded, I'll give it a try>>735982878>>735982878Don't have any Wii remotes, Is DQ1 a decent JRPG or a slogfest?
>>735983018DQ1 is like an 8 hour game tops. cheevos can be gotten in 2 runs. (1 run if you save at the right point, just takes an extra like 20 minutes for a 'secret' ending)
>>735982595Crash 1 isn't too bad, it's basically just 100%ing the game. 2 and 3 are harder, the achievements add the deathless requirement for all boxes like Crash 1 has and the levels are usually longer.
>>735983018DQ1 is pretty short and easy but since it established the genre, it's honestly too basic.
>>735983108i have played every dq except 1 and 2
>>7359840711&2 combined take like 2-3 days to beat and maybe a week to 100%.The remakes are an exception to that though, they added an absolute boatload of content, and it takes closer to a month to full 100% both.
>>735983084I actually find Crash 1 to be much harder than 2 and 3, though it might just be because I didn't grow up with Crash 1 like I did with the sequels.
>>735984117are the remakes actually worth playing? I wasn't a huge fan of the dq3 remake, the gfx looked a bit weird
>>735982595Ratchet and Clank.
>>735920625>https://retroachievements.org/game/2831use analog triggers
>>735984117idk if i'd call 2 a feel good set, the ending is so damn grindy. the rest of the game is good though
>>735984748nta but idk, they're ok. They nerfed the difficulty so there is less grind required which I don't like. Other than that they're ok. Good soundtracks, visuals are ok
So i know you can still cheat with hardcore mode on, but how exactly? The mods don't care to do anything about it..or can't maybe
>>735986016>They nerfed the difficultywhy do they feel the need to nerf the difficulty of everything these days, it drives me nuts
>>735984117I read that you should play the remakes in reverse order is that true?
>>735960913He didn't.
>>735914768There are literally nothing wrong with progression achievements when most people don't even finish their games.

should be called RCA for Retro CONSOLE Achievements? Why the fr** are there no fr**ing old PC games? Doesn't even have to be Windows, could be MS-DOS games or something. C'mon folks!
