I, for one, fully embrace the idea that Mercer is a psychopathic villain in Prototype 2. It was a logical step in how Mercer would evolve his philosophies and world views, not to mention what effects would take place if the blacklight virus itself needed to hold onto Mercer being the primary identity and how that can wither away and become neurologically corrupted overtime. I just wish his "grand plan" wasn't so dull and cartoonishly goofy with the new protagonist being so one dimensional and surprisingly, even more boring than Alex in Prototype 1 despite his own brand of "edginess" which doesn't play off well at all.

Mercer however is here as mental support for her and as a mentor figure.Gameplay-wise it takes the best of the previous Prototypes, but also makes sure to differentiate the characters. Mercer plays like himself + with new abilities that are either new or further enhance his old powers, but Ayane ends up putting more emphasis on speed and ranged attacks. Enemies will drastically mutate in order to adapt to you and they are all named after yokai and flowers. So you better know that if you meet mutants with names like oni, umibozu or spider lily, you know shit will hit the fan hard.
