What was Paul thinking?

He knew JC needed to make a silent takedown of Manderly

how the fuck do you even use this thing? it's shape is so weird, where is the trigger? how is it even possible to use the scope on that gun when the stock is in the way?

With neural interfaces there is no need for triggers and see-through scopes.
Just point augmented reality crosshair and think about firing.
>>
>>735947105
>how do you use the scope
You don't. That thing on the top is not a scope, it's a device used to guide the rocket.
>>
>Muh locks
You have LAMs for that. Goy gun will always be a meme
>>
>>735947793
I used all my LAMs for climbing like spiderman
>>
>>735947793
LAMs aren't powerful enough to blow up some doors
>>
>>735947060
simple answer it is a oversight by the devs. Unintended side effect the devs didn't think about. Like the LAMs being standable. They just left it in there post release. In the popular sweatlord mod, GMDX, which is often claimed to be a straight upgrade to DX1, the GEP gun can't open every door. can only be bypassed with keys or lockpicks
>>
>>735947274
>what were they thinking
"Let's make every infantry man capable of taking the role demolition, marksman, suppressive fire, etc."
Turns out that was fucking stupid.
>>
The choices paul gives you really were fucked. mini crossbow which you can get by the first nsf soldier you see not even 20 seconds later, a sniper rifle which, if i remember, you wont be able to used scoped in because your rifle skill can be trained at most and will still have noticeable sway, or lastly the gep gun which you wont get until battery park(?) that lets take down the hardest pre mj12 enemies in one shot and opens doors, perfectly usable at lluntrained heavy and for rp reasons paul doesnt berate you for being a psycho since its mainly there for heavy armor
>>
>>735949186
I can see the sniper rifle having a much stronger case if the game worked like Human Revolution or Mankind Divided. However after playing it a million times I can't stop myself from just putting a laser on a pistol and headshotting everything for most of the game and then hip firing the sniper rifle with a laser attachment for the commandos.

If you are talking about stuff like the MQ-9 then yeah those are great until you enter environments that aren't perfectly arid. If you are talking about those shitty little drones that drop grenades or explode on impact then it depends on if it is tethered or not. If it isn't then good luck finding one soldier to kill in five seconds before it runs out of battery or range and just plops on the ground. If it is tethered then you have a whole heap of problems.
>>
>>735947060
>What was Paul thinking?

Just in case though, we're police.
>>
>>735950817
Drones cost like 100 bux and can blow up a room killing 5 people. They can spot enemies using satellites and other drones unless the weather is terrible.

Throwing soldiers at a problem is not a good way to fight a war anymore.
>>
>>735950642
Oneshots military bots easily.
>>
>>735950928
>$100
Your aliexpress drone isn't going to be weapons grade. You have to account for range, carry weight and sight resolution. The standard is more like $500. I am assuming of course you arw talking about airborne drones, and not the type of shit you just let loose in a room next to you which seems pretty niche.

>>
>>735947274
It was so big because it had to house a ballistic computer. The weapon used programmable grenades that could be set to explode after flying over a cover or penetrate the cover and detonate. It took serious calculation power in 1990s to achieve this. The modern version of this system is actually very compact.
>>
>>735950928
Such drones are obsolete. Fiber optic controlled drones are the only thing that is effective
>>
>>735951101
There's no reason you couldn't use a Temu drone (and I'm sure Russia does constantly); even if it fails to do its job, you can just send in another 20 of them.

But assuming the US and its allies are using a weapons grade one for $500, that is still absolutely nothing compared to the cost of recruiting, training, equipping, transporting and feeding an actual soldier.
>>
>>735951252
Yes there is. Your shitty little temu drone will struggle to carry a grenade very far which is why I said the standard was $500, because in reality that is actually the minimum. Any lower and you will get severe issues with either weight capacity, battery, general reliability .etc. The US isn't spending $500 on something. The US is spending $500,000 minimum
>>
>>735947060
the thought that you were going to use it on humans had never crossed his mind
>>
>>735947793
LAMs are pretty rare, plus GEP rocket packs give you 4 rockets.
>>
>>735951417
It just needs a 2-3 hundred grams of plastic explosive strapped to it, and that is enough to kill or seriously injure multiple people. They don't need to carry grenades since you're going to fly them into the target anyway.
>>
>>735950928
>Throwing soldiers at a problem is not a good way to fight a war anymore
Throwing soldiers at a problem stopped being a good solution back when gundpowder became widespread and only gotten worse with each new conflict, but we still haven't found a better solution
>>
>>735950642
perfect for a silent takedown
>>
>>735952051
You still need soldiers to fight any war since they are the only things currently that can secure locations, set up equipment etc.. (until we have humanoid bots that can do that), but soldiers need to be used as sparingly as possible now because of how cheap and easy it is to blow them up. (especially in poor countries like Iran where they have no countermeasures/jamming etc...)
>>
>>735952197
>Manderly?
>>
UNATCO?
>>
>>735951252
IIRC the biggest cost of an FPV drone is the electronics, at least for the wireless ones. The battlefields in Ukraine are absolutely flooded with EW equipment and you need some reasonably sophisticated hardware to operate reliably in that kind of environment, and also more importantly the connection between you and the drone needs to be secure enough that the enemy can't take control of your drone or trace it back to wherever you're hiding. Fibre optic cables eliminate a lot of that so they might be able to knock off a bunch of the cost per unit but I have no idea, the last analysis I saw was from before they became popular.
>>
I've never done the big weapons because they take up so much inventory space and ammo I guess is rare and expensive.
>>
>>735948646
Why? A single man can't handle all those roles or officers started to become obsolete due to the efficiency of lone operators?

If you want to truly break deus ex just put the laser sight weapon mod you find beyond the electrical hazard in the bunker on liberty island on a pistol and one shot everything with perfect accuracy. GEP rockets and flamethrower fuel are hard to come by at the beginning and you don't get the DTS until hong kong

This game is such a terribly balanced clusterfuck. Even SS2 did this way better, though you had to replay the game a few times and not be a brainlet for everything to click into place.

He knew JC needed to make a silent takedown.
>>
>>735947060
He wanted to give JC something that's effective against military grade bots but forgot to take EMP nades with him.
>>
>>735947060
The drawback of the GEP gun is supposed to be that it slows you down but let's not act like DX1 is some well balanced game. I specced in rifles in one playthrough and I could suddenly kill everyone with a shotgun from two miles away then again I never tried playing on Realistic.
>>
They weren't thinking of min-maxers 20 years later, just weapon setups. You normally only come across heavy weapons in later levels, so they wanted to give you the option of a heavy weapon from the start. Paul lets you pick a pistol skill, rifle skill, or heavy skill weapon.

Min-maxers realized it becomes a better lock pick and hacking device than the actual skill sets. Just blow up all the doors, and blow up all the bosses from afar.

Why does it matter if it's more effective or not? It costs more so it spends more so it's better for the war economy. It's not like America is losing any wars because of a lack of effective tactics, right?

If the average trooper hates a weapon enough it eventually stops the weapon from entering production.

Nah, just the grenadier. It's meant to give him the ability to carry a "compact" package of assault rifle + (smart) grenade launcher instead of two separate weapons.

Before getting a weapon to the mass production phase they get actual troopers to test it for real for a while.

7.62 High Calibre's Blue Sun mod has a whole quest to retrieve a working one but you gotta assemble it yourself from parts that drop from enemy patrols. It's actually a cool weapon mechanically.

>>735959202
>Why does it matter if it's more effective or not
All forms of bureacracy will choose to maintain the status quo unless the supposed change is significant enough to warrant it.
The fish rifle, XM8, was a decent gun even with the downside of German special snowflake autism, but it was not worth phasing out the AR15.
