Why are videogames so artistically uninspired?I recently read a certain manga and it dawned on me that I don't remember a videogame ever having as interesting an art style as it.
Signalis takes a fair amount of influence from Blame!.
>>735948129>pretentious 2deep4uslopWhy do nips love to huff their own farts so much?
>>735948129Probably due to not hiring real artist, but only faggots who play everything safe. Might be also other retards in the company forcing it.
>>735948129The actual answer here disregarding all the retarded manchildren in this thread is that concept artists usually also have degrees in things like engineering and biology. Artist of OP's picrel has a degree in architecture for example. Meaning they're very expensive to hire compared to some california art school fag with a degree in women's studies. Which is consequently partly why their ideology is so prolific in vidya now. Its a cost cutting measure, they just aren't worth what their better educated predecessors are.
>>735948129I've thought about becoming a concept artist but then I realized I'd never give my 100% unless I was the game's creative director or something. The finished product almost never looks as good as concept art.
>>735948129Manga is mostly a single person effort, while games are mostly multi-people efforts. The more people you have working on something the more diluted the vision will be due to lack of centralized creative control.
>>735948129That's a problem with modern games. Take a look at FPS, the most generic genre when it comes to visuals: it was stunning how creative they were with the settings in the 90s, from Blood to Gunman Chronicles, even shit as apparently safe as Doom was a novelty with the mixing of demons on a sci-fi setting.
>I cant believe some still drawings with infinitely lower production value per piece manages to look stylized more easily than an interactive game with real time action where things need to ACTUALLY work together fluidlyactual 80iq thread
>>735948129i own all the mangas but i've never even looked at anything else Nihei has drawn, any of it good?a game like death stranding in the world of Blame, would that be a good idea?
>>735948629What exactly is pretentious or "2deep4u"? The manga is pretty cold and dry. The only thing confusing about it is that some info is delivered in the smaller panels and is easy to miss.
>>735948129There is plenty of fantastic vidya concept art. The problem is that it is usually unrealistic for a whole videogame to look "artistically inspired" since it would take a great deal of time, effort and money to do so.But some videogames do manage to have an interesting artstyle. Check out Judero for example.
>>735949954Wtf was his problem??
>>735949954NOiSE is a short prequel to blame and gives a little more info about the world besides that I only read abara and it was ok
>>735950112his only purpose was to mog everyone around him, literally nothing else
>>735948129Stuff like this is really annoying in motion. That's the real reason why. There's games like "drawn to death" i think that's what it is called and shit will give you a headache. That typing of the dead + cryptkeeper game has an aesthetic similar to this that doesn't give you a headache if you just want the aesthetic
>>735948129Any time a game, especially high budget one, strays from cookie cutter generic art direction people screech and whine
>>735950312maybe you have a brain condition, you ever think of that? or maybe a bad monitor
>>735949954>any of it good? While I like them, They're not the same. His style has become a lot simpler and the plots are less cryptic. Also some shonen-like humor.
>>735950501>Also some shonen-like humor.ruined, half of why blame worked so well was because of how utterly serious and no fun it was
>>735950542I guessed as much. They're far less serious that's for sure. I like them anyway for his flavour of sci-fi though. Such a rare genre in manga. I think Biomega is probably the closest in tone to Blame!, but I haven't read it.
Because it doesn't translate well to video 3D models
>>735950729It's not even that. It's like people don't understand the heavy uplifting composition does to a picture. You can't have composition with a free 3D camera.
blame! isn't that original. he basically just ripped off the design of the cenobytes from hellraiser after having seen the matrix on shrooms

>>735948129>Why are videogames so artistically uninspired?Have you been living under a rock? Play more games from the 2000s and early 2010s.
>>735950880BLAME! predates The Matrix by 2 years
>>735950880blame came out before matrix, this really begs the question of what IS original
>>735948129Don't worry ai will save gaming soon
>you now remember the shitty 3D Jewflix movie
>>735951035Not a single game look like this
>>735951159Nihei has made some cursed pact that his works shall only be adapted as shitty 3DCG.
>>735951171Maybe some 90s point'n click game?
>>735951243>rural france is now the peak of aesthetic
>>735948129Takatsuna Senba, the designer and artist of Gun Frontier (Taito) almost died animating a few hand drawn frames of a waterfall. He had to work in a boiling hot room with no Air-conditioning and his software and his body were constantly overheating, he worked almost naked to finish it.
There is almost nothing artistically impressive about manga. You're either brown or very young to me impressed by the shit you just posted that looks like bog standard cyberpunk with semi-amateurish drawing traits.I hope with time, you will eventually outgrow this juvenile weeb shit and start migrating to actual art.
>>735951351That's urban Portugal, moron.
>>735951351it kind of is, yeah
If you wanted to talk about blame! why not just say so? why this "video games fucking suck also blame!" song and dance?
>>735951615What do they eat?
>>735951671Mutton
>>735951159The movie is fine on its own. I believe adapting Blame as a series of shorts instead of your standard anime season, should work in its favour considering the log-like story.
>>735950880Kill yourself marxist
>>735948129Hylics has a very unique artstyle.
>>735948129>Why are videogames so artistically uninspired?Because the main thing you need to shat out a game is programming skills, and programmers are boring people.Artfags are retarted baboons who don't know how to use computers, which is why you need to go to places like comic books and manga to find artsy stuff.
>>735948629You know people talk about soulless millenials who can’t take anything seriously? Like people who haven’t done or felt anything real for 20 years now and they make fun of you for being genuinely excited about ANYTHING? Like you find this new band you enjoy. Naaah its babbys first something+slop. You enjoy this food? No, its babbys first. You had spiritual awakening? Dude weed lmao. Nothing but some obscure piece of art from the 1950s can be considered ”good” because everything else is too reddit.
>>735948129>>735951531>gets ripped off by both the Japanese and the FrenchKneel.
>>735952179>zoomgroid trying to talk about Artskibidi toilet
because everyone that makes video games nowadays isnt japanese and is woke
>>735951159The movie's real problem was just being an amalgam of existing stories instead of something originalThere are SO many fucking stories you could tell about Killy's travels through the City and the cultures/people he meets and helps on his way. But nope, let's just rehash the electrofishing village
>>735950542>>735949954Aside from some harem comedy sections, Knights of Sidonia was pretty cool.
>>735951102Raises the question. Begging the question is an informal fallacy.
>>735950880>ripped off the design of the cenobytes from hellraisertrue. > after having seen the matrix on shroomsshrooms that sent him to the future to see the matrix.(blame came out in 1997, the matrix in 1999)H.R. Giger and Naoyuki Kato(pic) were likely the big scifi influence.
>>735952324>Knights of SidoniaI love the sense of scale it has.
>>735948129The series you’re looking for is the original Halo trilogy. I’m dead serious.

>>735952105counterpointgames were miles better when they were made by programmers instead of by "designers" drawing graphs on prepackaged engines, or, worse yet, asking an LLM to Frankestein together a bunch of pieces of stolen code neither of them understand
>>735948129Because it's exceptionally hard to create 3D graphics. This is why generative AI is important for vidya btw.
>>735950880Called out and blown the fuck out
>>735952578every halo game past two sucks thoughie so its more like a duology
>>735948129It's way easier to draw something cool than it is to sculpt, rig it and make it look okay in realistic lighting. It's like that Final Fantasy guy who draws logos his art style actually done in 3D looks crap.

Shame he got burnt out by dogshit editors.
>>735950001bro made it hard to understand on purpose, he didn't care about making them comprehensible and has said as much:>My work is pretty light on dialogue and people tend to say it’s hard to understand, and I think back then I really just wanted to do something strange. Back when I was starting out I thought of drawing manga not as work, but as a means of self-expression. I wasn’t concerned with entertaining my readers or making something that’ll actually sell, which I suppose is why I made such an opaque manga.dont get me wrong though, he's my favorite manga author.
>>735949954I like basically everything I've read, but they mostly turn into incomprehensible messes by the end, except Sidonia.the last 1/3 of Biomega, Abara, Aposimz are all really weird from memory.his latest ongoing one Tower Dungeon is pretty tight though.
>>735954448>Gantzwhat a disappointment of a series
>>735954448Bonus fun fact - his daughter once asked him if he could make some "cool" manga, "like Attack on Titan".

>>735952768I mean, yeah, but even back then they still didn't have innovative aesthetics, and at best just ripped them off good ones from other mediums.
>>735955203Shame. Tower dungeon with Sidonia art would rock hard.
>>735948129I know you're referring to Blame, but Blame is also a one in a thousand manga. How many manga are just "Japanese High School Boy Self Insert gets with Many Eccentric Girls"? There's slop everywhere.

>>735948129What's an interesting art style to you?

>>735956691Dune is pretty popular and one of the foundations of modern sci fi. I remember seeing someone on reddit post a picture of their library and it was filled with ghost writer game series trash and this argument was trying to be thrown around. There is such thing as pleb taste, where you set the bar is how much of a fag you are.I say this as someone who likes a couple of the star wars books

>>735959038You have dantes inferno but that was 10 years ago. I think the imminent collapse of most mega public game companies is going to bring about more big game studios that are private and they will take more risks. Something like video games cant really be spearheaded by the mantra of the shareholder comes first. They dont know anything about games and disinterested in innovation
that's because you play GTAslop. The statement "there has never been an interesting art style in video games" is beyond absurd. Not even going to spoon feed or bump this thread. You just need to leave.

>>735950993I played both the original and the remaster and can safely say this is one of the biggest examples of games I find totally unfun to play yet I still want to like.
Can someone give me a quick rundown on the lore/story of Blam? From what I gathered it is in the far future after an ai has gone haywire and has continued to build on earth to the point that the City has started extending into the galaxy and won't stop? There are civilisations of people on other parts of the City that rarely ever meet because it is so enourmous? Then there's people with admin access to its database which are being hunted down by the Firewall of said system and that's who the main character is looking for?
>>735960605the city is a runaway ai-governed megastructure that early in its life was subject to the wiles of a chaos-cult that managed to succeed in infecting effectively all of mankind with a pathogen that rendered humans incapable of interfacing with or controlling it. the perpetrators of this went on to give rise to the silicon life portrayedit is, at the time of BLAME!, a dyson sphere that has engulfed the solar system past the extent of jupiterthe wider protective governing entity of the megastructure recognizes surviving humans as foreign entities by virtue of their inability to interface and attempts to exterminate them when encounteredkilly is an old, old, and badly malfunctioning hyperalloy-comprised cyborg created long ago at the time of the story being told still running on his initial directive to find and secure untainted human genes capable of wresting back control over the city
