Skyrim has interactable NPCs with dialouge options, schedules, quests, faction quests, levels, multiple builds and so on.Skyrim is also set in an existing canon lore of Elder Scrolls spanning across multiple games with set magic/world rules. Crimson has none of that and I don't know why people insist on comparing it to "modern skyrim", but I agree it would be 10x better if they just let you create your own character.

I feel bad for people who can only play this modded. They're too far gone to appreciate how beautiful this game is without them, and basically gaslit themselves into following the mod trends and making skyrim an entirely different game. There's just no better feeling that walking down the road from Helgen to Riverwood on your hundredth playthrough, yet it still feeling like your first time there. I feel like that's why we all replay it, mods or not, to trigger that memory of the first time we played it. Like coming out of the sewers in oblivion, of vault 101 in Fallout 3. There's magic in that first few minutes after the tutorial in Bethesda games you just can't replicate anywhere else
